(1)  Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior  General  Than  Shwe  accepts credentials  of Ambassador  of the  Republic  of  the  Philippines 

YANGON,  27  June-Chairman of  the  State  Peace  and Development  Council  of the  Union of  Myanmar  Senior General Than  Shwe accepted credentials of  the newly-accredited  Ambassador  of  the  Republic  of the Philippines  Mrs Phoebe A Gomez at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry  of Defence at 10 am today.  Also  present  on the occasion  were  Secretary-1  of the State Peace and Development  Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,  Minister  for Foreign  Affairs  U Win Aung  and  Director-General  of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.


(2) Plans under way to convey 500-ton  Kyauktawgyi  Buddha Image to Yangon in accord with religious  tradition

YANGON, 27 June - A meeting was held this after noon at Wizaya  Mingala  Dhamma  Thabin  Hall  at  Kaba  Aye to coordinate  conveying of  Kyauktawgyi  Buddha  Image to Yangon, attended by Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development  Council  Lt- Gen Khin  Nyunt.  Speaking on the  occasion,  the  Secretary-l  said  U  Taw  Taw,  a sculptor expert, found the huge marble 37 feet high and 700 tons in weight at Sakyin (marble)  region in Madaya Township,  Mandalay  Division.  Such a large marble had never been found in  Myanmar  in the past.  Because  of its  excellent  quality,  U Taw  Taw  assumed  it  as a significant  find and presented a proposal to carve the stone  into a  Buddha  image  and to  donate  it to the government  for public  obeisance.  It is good news for the  nation at a time  when the  government  is  making endeavours for propagation, promotion and  perpetuation of the Sasana.  The Secretary-l  said when he visited  the area and  checked  the  marble, he found  that the stone was quite  suitable  for a Buddha image to be carved out of it.  He sought ovada from the Sayadaws  to carve  the  stone  into a Buddha  image in accord with the religious traditions.

The  Kyauktawgyi  Buddha  Image will be  conveyed  from Sakyin  region  to the  jetty on  Ayeyawady  River by a special  train; on board a barge  along  the  Ayeyawady River to Yangon; and from  Gyogon  Raft Jetty in Yangon to Min Dhamma Hill by special  train.  The  Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Rail  Transportation  are making joint efforts to convey the Buddha Image.

Plans are  under  way to  convey  the  Buddha  Image in accord  with  the  ovada  of the  Sayadaws.  The  barge carrying  the  image  will  stop  at  towns  along  the Ayeyawady bank for public obeisance.  The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the Secretary-l .


(3) Secretary-2  inspects  construction  of multi- purpose engine production  factory,  agriculture and livestock breeding  in  Bago  Division 
 
YANGON,  27 Jun-  Secretary-2  of the  State  Peace and Development  Council  Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected construction of multi-purpose  diesel engine production factory of the Ministry of Industry-2  and  agriculture and livestock breeding activities in Bago Division this morning.

The  Secretary-2  and party were  welcomed at Wanbawdat Bridge in Bago  Division  by member of the State  Peace and Development Council Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development  Council  Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Tin Aye, Commander of No 77 LID Col Maung Maung Swe and officials.

At  the  briefing  hall  near  the Wanbawdat Bridge Commander  Maj-Gen Tin Aye reported on establishment of Wanbawdat paddy-plus-fish agricultural farm for greening  both  sides  of Yangon-Bago Highway  near Lagonpyin  Creek  between  Bago  and  Hlegu  Townships. Deputy  Ministers  Brig-Gen  Khin  Maung and U Kyaw Tin reported on condition of Lagonpyin  Creek and  Director of Yangon  Division  Irrigation  Department U Tin Maung Win reported on previous survey for  construction  of a dam on the creek.

The Secretary-2  and party  proceeded to  multi-purpose diesel  engine  production  factory in  Indagaw  region industrial  zone where they were  welcomed  by Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and officials.

Minister  Maj-Gen Saw Lwin  reported  on  multi-purpose diesel  engine production project,  15-  HP  engine production  project for power  tillers,  vehicle  spare parts  production  project  and work  being  done.  The Secretary-2  and party  inspected  construction  of the factories  and  assembling  of Eya-l power  tillers and spare pares of the power tiller engines.

Myanma  Automobile  and  Diesel  Engine  Industries  is making  arrangements for  construction of multi-purpose diesel engine production factory in Indagaw region.

Disc wheel plant, Hyote metal bearing  plant,  radiator plant and inlet and exhaust  valve  plant are now under construction.

The 15- HP power tillers  production  factory will also be constructed soon.  The Secretary-2 and party

Diesel Engine  Industries  is making  arrangements  for construction of multi-purpose  diesel engine production factory in Indagaw  region.  Disc  wheel  plant,  Hyote metal  bearing  plant,  radiator  plant  and  inlet and exhaust  valve  plant are now under  construction.  The 15- HP power  tillers  production  factory will also be constructed soon.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected  raising of broiler finisher  at 10th mile  poultry  farms of Myanma  Farms Enterprise.  The  Secretary-2  and party went to Shwewa Tun Hall in Bago and met Commander  Maj-Gen Tin Aye who reported on  reclamation  of wetlands  on both sides of Minhla-Monyo Road, designating Bago Industrial Zone and drafting of town planning.

Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Ministers  Brig-Gen Khin Maung and U Kyaw Tin took part in  reclamation  of lands  and  town  planning.  Managing  Director  U Khin Myint of  Yadana  Win Co  reported  on  reclamation  of wetlands  in  Minhla  and  Monyo townships.  Minister Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe also  reported on extended  breeding of prawn.  The  Secretary-2  then gave  instructions.  The Secretary-2  went to  integrated  agricultural  farm of Bago  Division  Police  Force  in  Hinthagon  Ward  and Ye-Ar-Man vegetable shop.  Bago Division Police Commander  Police  Col Aung Gyi  reported  on the farm. The  Secretary-2  inspected  the  farm  and  then  gave instructions.  The  Secretary-2  and party arrived back here in the evening.

(4)Secretary-3  accepts  medical  equipment,  cash and  kind for  Tatmadawmen

YANGON,27 June-A ceremony to donate medical  equipment, cash  and  kind  for Tatmadawmen was  held  at  the Directorate of Defence  Services  Museum and Historical Research  Institute  on  Shwedagon  Pagoda Road at l pm today,  attended by Secretary-3  of the State Peace and Development Council  Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint. Also present were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Director of DSMHRI Col Ye Htut, officials and donors.

Then, U Ba Khant and Daw Khin Shwe  presented K 700,000 for  Jivitadana Sangha Hospital, Yangon General ,Hospital,  Women's  Hospital, Children's Hospital, Psychiatric  Hospital,  Worker's Hospital and Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat  Hospital to Minister  Maj-Gen Ket Sein who accepted the donations  and gave a  certificate  of honour to the donor .  The  Secretary- 3 spoke words of thanks.

YANGON,  27, June-  Deputy  Minister  for  Finance  and Revenue  Brig-Gen  Than Tun met a delegation  led by Mr Claude  Saigon of Gret, which is an NGO, at the meeting hall of minister  for Finance  and  Revenue on Industry Road,  Yankin  Township at 2 pm today.  They  cordially discussed  bilateral  cooperation.  Also present at the call was  Vice-Governor  U Than Lwin of Central Bank of Myanmar.

YANGON,27  June - Minister for Health  Maj-Gen Ket Sein met  Director  Dr Rita  Thapa  of  Regional  Office  of Director  of South  East  Asian  Region,  World  Health Organization at his office on Pyielaungsu  Yeiktha Road at  9  am  today.  The  director  was accompanied  by Resident  Representative  of WHO Dr Agostino  Borra and officials.  Also present were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials.

YANGON, 27  June-Minister  for Industry-l U Aung Thaung met Managing  Director Mr Supan  Jotikabukkana  of Duco International Thailand and party at his office at 10 am today.  Also present were  directors-general and managing directors  of  departments  and  enterprises  under the ministry.


(6)President  of LPDR  NSC  watches  skill  demonstration of  Sepak  Takraw

YANGON, 27 June- President of National Sports Committee of Laos  and  National  Olympic  Committee  of  Laos Dr Phouthong  Seng Akhom and party,  currently  here under the  arrangement  of friendly  relations  and promoting mutual cooperation in sports sector between Myanmar and Laos, arrived at Youth Training  Centre,  Thuwunna at 6 pm today.  They  were  welcomed  there by  Chairman  of Myanmar Olympic Committee  Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint,  President  of  Myanmar  Sepak  Takraw Federation  Deputy Director-General  of  Ministry  of Forestry U Hla Myint and  officials. They  watched skill demonstration of Sepak Takraw.

(7)Minister  meets  Australian  Ambassador
 
YANGON,27  June  -Minister  for  Home  Affairs  Col Tin Hlaing met Indian  Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Shyam Saran at his  office at the  corner  of Saya San Road and No1 Industry  Road  at 1  pm  today  .  Also  present  were Director-General U Aung Thein of General Administration Department,  Director-General  U Kyaw  Tun  of  Prisons Department and Head of Office U Nyan Lin.


(8)Myanmar delegation  arrives back

YANGON,  27  June-  Myanmar  Health  delegation  led by Chairman of  Myanmar  Cardiac  Physicians  Association Professor U Aung and  Assistant  Professor  Lt-Col Aung Kyaw Zaw arrived back here by air this  afternoon.  The delegation  attended 13th ASEAN  Conference  on Cardiac held in Singapore from 23 to 26 June.


(9)Minister inspects  prawn, fish breeding, cultivation  tasks of enterprises

YANGON, 27  June-Minister  for  Transport  Maj-Gen  Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint,  Managing  Director U Thein Htay of Myanma  Port Authority,  General  Manager  Lt-Col Soe Tint of Inland Water  Transport and  officials,  arrived at Dalla Port this  morning and  inspected  passenger  transport  and selling tickets.

In Hsabagyaung region of Dalla, the minister  inspected fish and prawn breeding being undertaken by MPA and IWT in the  area of MPA.  In the  briefing  hall,  Managing Director U Thein Htay, General  Manager Lt-Col Soe Tint and  officials  reported on prawn and fish  breeding to the minister.  The minister gave  instructions on work. At Dalla Port, the minister met officials and discussed development of the port.

In the briefing  hall, the  minister  heard  reports on undertaking the plan on  self-reliance  cultivation and livestock breeding tasks to be upgraded into commercial scale presented by Managing  Director U Khin Maung Kyi. The minister attended to their needs.

(11)Minister inspects preparations  for  holding  MWJA Central  Body  Meeting

YANGON, 27  June-Minister  for Information  Maj-Gen Kyi Aung arrived at Pyidaungsu  Hall in  Kyaikkasan  Ground where  Central  Body  Meeting of  Myanmar  Writers  and Journalists Association will be held, at 8.45 am today.

The  minister  was well come  there by Deputy  Minister Brig-Gen  Aung  Thein,  Chairman  of MWJA  Chairman  of Central  Organizing  Committee U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) and members and officials.

First,  the  minister  inspected  preparations  for the Pyidaungsu Hall where the Central Body meeting will be held, the messing hall and  arrangements  for  catering service,  the  reading  room of  Yangon  East  District Information  and Public  Relations  Department, dispensaries,  hostels  and  sanitation  tasks  and the environs  of  hostels.  The  minister  gave necessary instructions  and  left  at 10  am.  The  Central  Body Meeting  of MWJA  will be held at  Pyidaungsu  Hall  in Kyaikkasan Ground on 29 and 30 June.


(12)Drug  trafficker  gets 25  years' imprisonment

YANGON, 27 June- Members of Yangon  Division  Anti-drug Squad,  on  suspicion,  searched  Zaw Win, 28, son of U Ohn,  Dalla, at  Sin-O-dan  Jetty in Seikkan  Township, Yangon, on 9 January 1999.

The authorities  found 193.12 grams of marijuana in his possession.  He was  tried  under  Section  19  (A)  of Narcotic  Drugs  and  Psychotropic  Substances  Law  by Yangon West District  Court and  sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(13)Heroin  stimulant  tablets  seized  in  Mongshu 

YANGON, 27 June-A combined team  comprising  members of local  intelligence  unit  and  Myanmar  Police  Force, acting on information,  waiting on Sao Khun Tun Street, Ward 2, Monghsu Gems Land, Mongshu Township, Shan State (South), on 16 June,  stopped and searched  one suspect Daw Par Kharnhlan,  daughter of U Lwe Kyaung, Naungkham Village, Tangyan Township.

The  authorities  arrested her together with 5 grams of heroin and 145 stimulant tablets bearing "WY".

Action is being taken  against  her under the  Narcotic Drugs an Psychotropic Substances Law.


(14)Voters  of  TadaU Township  unanimously petitions  for dissolving pessimist NLD

Voters  of  Zigon  Township unanimously express  no confidence  in NLD and its  representative  elect U San Tin, demand dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON  ,27 June - Voters  from  Zigon  Township,  Bago Division, submitted petitions  expressing no confidence in  U  San  Tin  who  was  elected  as  Pyithu  Hluttaw Representative  of National League for Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty  Democracy  General Election from Zigon Township  Constituency  and no support for him, and ex- pressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it at rallies held at Zigon Township  Sports Ground and Gyasu Village Sports Ground on 15 May.

A total of 15,642  people  from 26 wards  and  village- tracts rallied in the Township Sports Ground.

On behalf of attendees, merchant U Shwe Hla of Ward 4 expressed  no  confidence  in U San  Tin of NLD  and no support for him and no support  for  pessimist  NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.  Merchant U Htoo Naing of Ward 3  presented  petitions  signed  by the  people to member  of  Township Multiparty Democracy General Election  Sub-commission  Township  Judge  U  Zaw  Win. Altogether  4,250  people  from  eight village-tracts rallied at Gyasu Village  Sports  Ground.  On behalf of the  people, farmer  U  Han  Shwe  of  Gyasu  Village expressed  no  confidence  in U San  Tin of NLD  and no support for him and no support  for  pessimist  NLD and petitioned  for  dissolving  it.  Farmer  U Than  Oo of Gwebin Village presented petitions signed by the people to member  of  Township  Multiparty  Democracy  General Election Sub-commission Dr Tun Aye.

Then, the people at  ceremonies  chanted Our Three Main National  Causes.  Out of  41,957  eligible  voters  in Zigon Township  Constituency,  15,992 or 56.79 per cent voted for U San Tin of NLD in the election.

The number of people, who  expressed no support for NLD and its  representative-elect  U San Tin and signed the petitions for dissolving  NLD at the rallies was 36,400 people or 86.75 per cent.


(15)35 Pwintphyu Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON,27  June-Thirty-five  members  resigned from the National  League for  Democracy of Pwintphyu  Town- ship, Magway Division.

Thirty-five  members of Pwintphyu  Township NLD, Magway Division,  of their own  accord,  resigned  by  sending letters of resignation to Pwintphyu Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 18 March 2000 as they no longer  wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
