(1) Minister inspects factories in Bago and Magway DivisionsYANGON, 22 June - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin inspected the construction of the staff quarters and the manufacturing of machinery parts for the Zwe tractor, paddy thrashing machines, Ayeya-1 power tillers and pumps at No 1 Agricultural Machinery Factory (Hsinde) in Padaung Township, Bago Division, on 17 June morning.
On 18 June morning, the minister went to No 2 Automobile Factory in Padaung Township. Next, the minister toured the factory. In the afternoon, the minister went to No 1 Machinery Tool Factory (Nyaungchehtauk), and met with officials in the meeting hall.
The minister then went to No-1 Agricultural Machinery Factory (Hsinde), and arrived there at 3.30 pm. In the meeting hall of the factory at 8.00 am on 19 June, the minister met with managing directors, general managers and officials of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries, Myanma Agricultural Machinery Industries and Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries.
The minister gave instructions on qualitative improvement of products and extensive sale of products, and urged all to work in unity.
Afterwards, the minister and party proceeded to No 2 Agricultural Machinery Factory (Malun) in Magway Division 3.00pm.
The minister met with officials of the factory, and gave instructions on the work. Then, he inspected Warehouses No 1 and 2. Next, the minister inspected the factory, construction of the staff quarter and the staff hospital, and gave instructions on qualitative improvement of tractors. The minister and party left Malun at noon and arrived at No-1 agriculture Machinery Industries (Hsinde) at 6.30 pm. They left Hisnde yesterday morning and arrived back here in the evening.
(2) Minister gives instructions on upkeep of Shwebontha Muni Pagoda
YANGOI4, 22 June- Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, accompanied by officials, met with members of the Committee for All-round Renovation of Shwebontha Muni Pagoda and the pagoda board of trustees in Padaung Township, Pyay District, on 20 June. He discussed the upkeep of the pagoda, security matters, maintenance of discipline and measures to be taken to enable pilgrims to visit the pagoda with peace of mind. Then, the minister paid homage to four Buddha images at the pagoda and gave instructions on maintenance of religious buildings and the platform of the pagoda.
(3) Minister inspects National level Exhibition on Narcotic Drugs
YANGON, 22 June -Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing inspected the National-level Exhibition on Narcotic Drugs at the Tatmadaw Convention Centre on U Wisara Road, hers yesterday afternoon.
Accompanied by Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung and officials, the minister visited the exhibition held in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Secretary of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Joint Secretary of the Committee to Organize the Exhibition Deputy Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Aung Hsan and officials and the respective ministries and work groups conducted them around the exhibition.
After giving suggestions to the officials, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing left the exhibition.
(4) Minister receives Thai visitors
YANGON, 22 June-Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein received Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Public Health of Thailand Dr Supachai Kunaratanapruk and party at his office this morning.
Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Thai Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Mr Pensak Chalarak and officials of the Ministry of Health.
(5) Minister meets officials of UPM of Malaysia
YANGON, 22 June- Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Dean Dato Dr Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman of UPM of Malaysia and party at his office at 5 pm today.
Also present were Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, Director-General U Kyaw Lwin of Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries, Director-General U Maung Maung Nyunt of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, Director-General U Than Tun of Fisheries Department and Head of Office U Myint Shwe.
(6) Chess Tournament of Ministry of Home Affairs begins
YANGON, 22 June- A ceremony to open the 11th International Chess Tournament of ministry of Home Affairs was held at the meeting hall of Director- General of Prisons Department in Insein Township this morning with an address by Minister for Home affairs Col Tin Hlaing.
Altogether seven teams are taking part in the tournament; which will continues till 28 June.
YANGON, 22 June-The Central Body Meeting of Myanmar Writers and journalists Association (MWJA) will be held in Pyidaungsu Hall at Kyaikkasan Grounds on 29 and 30 June.
The Central Committee to Organize the Central Body Meeting of MWJA requested the MWJA Central Body members of various townships and observers who will attend the meeting to inform the office of the Delegates Scrutiny Work Committee opened at Kyaikkasan Grounds beginning noon on 28 June.
(8) 347 drug-related cases exposed in May
YANGON, 22 June A total of 347 drug cases were exposed by the Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police Force and the Customs Department in May 2000.
The authorities seized 352.3811 kgs of opium in 34 cases, 5.7424 kgs of heroin in 133 cases, 0.7128 kgs of opium oil in eight cases, 3.1441 kgs of low grade opium in 12 cases, 36.9315 kgs of marijuana in 72 cases, 15.55 litres of Phensedyl in six cases, 7,257,160 stimulant tablets in 32 cases, 190.74 kgs of Ephedrine in two cases, 11.14 litres of cough syrup in one case, 0.0087 kgs of stimulant powder and 156 litres of acetic anhydride in one case, 120 litres of hydrochloric acid, 40 cases of failure to register and other six cases. Action has been taken against 458 persons 374 men and 84 women involved in 374 cases during the period.
(9) 4,156,000 stimulant tablets seized in Shan State
YANGON, 22 June-A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force acting on information, arrested Arfu (a) Arwai, 31, of Muse who was staying at Leo Guest House in Lashio and Kyape, 31, of Ward 5, Lashio together with 4,156,000 stimulant tablets bearing the word WY and a Toyota van used in drug trafficking with number plate 1/ Ka 3893 on 31 May, 2000.
Action has been taken against them in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
(10) Illegal drug possessors get five and three years
YANGON,, 21 June-The Namhkam Township Court handed down sentences of five and three years imprisonment on drug possessors on 2 February 1999.
Members of Namhkam Township Police Force searched the house of Sai Maung Nyi, 45, son of U Yin Chin. of Namhkam Township at 4.30 pm on 1 November 1998 and arrested Sai Maung Nyi and Yansai, 29, son of U Yin Kyein, of Ward 6, Pansai Township together with 0.0075 kg of low-grade opium. Action was taken against them in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. The court handed down three years imprisonment under Section 15 and five years' imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on Sai Maung Nyi to serve concurrently and three years' imprisonment under Section 15 on Yansai.
(11) Meeting on trading beans and Pulses
YANGON, 22 June- Charge d' Affaires ai of Embassy of Pakistan to the Union of Myanmar Mr Zaighamuddin Azam met Vice-President of Beans and pulses and Sesamum Traders Association of Myanmar U Sein Win Hlaing U Tun Aung and Secretary U San Tun Hla, at BSTA, No 504 / 506, Merchant Street, on 20, June. They discussed matters pertaining to trading of beans and pulses between Myanmar and Pakistan.
(12) Deputy Minister visits banks
YANGON, 22 June - Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun and Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung arrived at Myanma Foreign Trade Bank at 10 am this morning. The deputy minister inspected the functions of the bank and gave instructions.
He then proceeded to Myanma Economic Bank He inspected the functions of the branch, and gave instructions on working programmes. The branch is using the computerized system to provide banking services speedily and correctly.
(13) Twenty-three members of various armed groups exchange arms for peace
YANGON, 22 June-The State Peace and Development Council is endeavouring with sincere goodwill win back national consolidation for the emergence of a peaceful, pleasant, modern and developed nation. Members of armed groups in the jungles have realized the good deeds and the true goodwill of the State and the Tatmadaw, and the fact that their many years of destructive acts had not brought any benefits to the nation and the people and that such misdeeds made their regions lag behind in development. They are now exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups.
Twenty-three members of various armed groups exchanged arms for peace during the period from 1 to 31 May 2000. In the Western Command area, Captain Than Kyaw Aung, Pi Hsai (a) Peter Hsai, sgt Tun Lon (a) Than Sein, Soe Hlaing, pvts Maung Si (a) Khaing Soe Naing of CNA armed group bringing together with them one .22 automatic rifle, one rifle, one homemade gun, two magazines, 168 rounds of hand grenades and 20 packets of TNT exchanged arms for peace. Captain Larlet Dain of CNA armed group exchanged arms for peace in the North-West Command area.
Pvts Sai Soe Moe (a) Soe Lay of ABSDF armed group exchanged arms for peace in the Northern Command area.
In the North-East Command area, Aik San with the rank of deputy company commander and pvts Lauk Aing, Aik Hsai, Aik Yi and Aik Kyein of SURA armed group exchanged arms for peace.
In the Triangle Region Command area, pvt Htay Aung of No 6 company, No 19 battalion, No 7 brigade of KNU armed group exchanged arms for peace. Pvts Thit Win Naing and Zaw Min (a) Kala of No 1 brigade of KNU armed group brining together with them one AK-47 automatic rifle, one magazine and union exchanged arms for peace in the South-East Command area. In the Coastal Region Command area, Lieutenant Aye Kyin wife Daw Sein Thaung and children Naw Bei May, Naw Nay Htoo, Saw Da Sein, Saw Da Nyein, Naw Sai and supply in-charge Aye Win of No 11 battalion of KNU armed group bringing together with them one. 38 revolver, one M-16 automatic rifle, one magazine and 13 rounds of ammunition exchanged arms for peace. Officials of the respective Tatmadaw camps warmly welcomed the 23 persons who exchanged arms for peace during the period. The officials have also provided necessary assistance for them. More members of the remaining arm groups are going to exchange arms for peace.
(14) 22 Monyo Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 22 June-Twenty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Monyo Township, Bago Division.
Twenty-two members of Monyo Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Monyo Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 8 November 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
