(1)  Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kying Kying welcome back Myanmar delegation led by General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San on their return  from PRC

YANGON, 12 June -Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing welcomed back Myanmar delegation led by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, who arrived back here after paying an official visit to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of Vice-President of the People's Republic of China MR Uh Jintao, by special flight at Yangon International Airport this evening.

YANGON, 12 June- At the invitation of Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Hu Jintao, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and Myanmar goodwill delegation left here by special flight on S June morning on an official visit to the People's Republic-of China and arrived in Beijing in the evening.

Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San together with Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt- Gen Tin Hla, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife and ministers left here by special flight at 6 am and arrived at Kunming Airport in Yunnan Province at 9.30 am local time.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party were welcomed there by Vice-Governor of Yunnan Province Mr Shao Qi Wei, Director General of Foreign Affairs Department of Yunnan Province Mr Feng Ren  Dong and officials, Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan and officials who arrived there to attend the Kunming Trade Fair 2000, Consul General U Shwe Moe and wife and staff of the Myanmar Consulate-General in Kunming.

At Special Lounge of Kunming Airport, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party cordially met the Vice-Governor of Yunnan Province and officials.

At 12.20 pm local time, the General and wife and party left by special flight and arrived at Beijing International Airport at 4 pm local time.

The Myanmar goodwill delegation was welcomed there by Deputy Director General Mr Hu Zheng Yue of Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC, officials, Ambassador of Myanmar to PRC U Ba Htay Chit and wife, Military Attache Col Sein Gyawt and wife and staff of the Myanmar Embassy.

Then, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party went to Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in a motorcade and spent the night there.

On June 6 evening, a ceremony to welcome General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party by Vice-President of PRC Mr Hu Jintao and Madarne Liu Yongqing was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San proceeded from Diaoyutai State Guesthouse to the Great Hall of the People in a motorcade. The General and wife were heartily welcomed at eastern square of the Hall by vice-president of PRC Mr Hu Jintao and Madame Liu Yongging.

Two children presented bouquets to the General and wife. Afterwards, the General Maung Aye and Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao proceeded to the saluting dais and took the salute of the Guard of Honour, while the State Band played the national an-anthemes of the two countries.

Then, the General and the Vice-President inspected the Guard of Honour. Then, discussions were held in the hall in front of the General Hall of the People.  The Vice-President of PRC extended his greetings to Myanmar delegation. Then, General Maung Aye introduced the members of Myanmar delegation to the Vice-President of PRC. The meeting ended at 6 pm.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Win Aung and Foreign Minister of PRC Tang Jiaxuan signed the documents.

PRC Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao and wife hosted dinner in honour of General Maung Aye, Daw Mya Mya San and Myanmar delegation in the West Hall at 6.30 pm. Military band of PLA played Myanmar and Chinese songs during the dinner. General Maung -Aye and Daw Mya Mya San greeted members of the band and presented them- gifts. The General and delegation left for the State Guest House. The next day, General

Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San and delegation visited Beijing Glorious Land Agricultural Co Ltd in Beijing. President of the company Mr Yu Fei, vice-president Mr Li Rong Chi and officials welcomed them. They first visited the Tissue Culture Workshop. They then studied crop cultivation and livestock breeding at the company.

The General then signed in the visitors' book. Officials of the company presented gifts to General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San. General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San and delegation then visited Doroba Chamber where the Buddha's Tooth Relic is being kept. Chairman of Chinese Buddhist Association Mr Dao Shuren and party welcomed them. General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San and delegation paid homage to Buddha images and the Tooth Relic.

General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San presented offertories including robes to Sayadaw Dao Yan. Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla and party donated offertories and cash.

Next, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party inspected renovation of Kyaunghsaung where a Buddha Image from Myanmar wilt be kept there.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party went to Kyaungtaik of Kev Hai Yuan who took care of the Tooth Relic of the Buddha. They paid obeisance to the remains of Rev Hai Yuan who passed away at the age of 96.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San presented offertories to Rev Chen Chen. General Maung Aye presented gift to Chairman of Chinese Buddhist Association Mr Taung Shuyin. At 11 am, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party left for State Guest House. At 2 pm, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the People's Republic of China Mr Chen Xinhua and the directors-general of foreign investment and Asian Affairs Department reported on re

forms practice of the open door policy and foreign investment. Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation reported on reforms and the open door policy being practised starting from 1978, efforts for attracting more of foreign investment and achievements.

General Maung Aye thanked him. Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig Gen Win Tin and Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung asked questions. Deputy Minister Chen Xinhua replied to their queries.

Daw Mya Mya San, wife of General Maung Aye, Daw Khin Cho Oo, wife of Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Daw San Yon, wife of Minister U Win Aung, Daw Khin Thein, wife of Myanmar Ambassador to China U Ba Htay Chit, Military Attache Col Sein Gyawt and wife Daw Kyi Kyi Oo visited the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 6 June.

Members of Myanmar goodwill delegation led by General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San visited Kunming International Horticulture Show in Kunming on 5 June. General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party observed a flower clock decorated with flowers and had photo taken.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San observed decorated garden, street and ship decorated with flowers.

Next, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party went round the show and observed display of various kinds of trees and preparations for recreation at Green House Booth and Myanmar Garden Booth. They had photo taken in front of Myanmar Garden Booth.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party observed tree and flower booth of various nations and states, booths of PRC and Shanghai Booth. They had photo taken in Shanghai Booth.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party went to China Hall and they were conducted round

by officials. General Maung Aye signed in visitor's book in China Hall No 1. General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San presented gifts to Vice-Governor of Yunnan Province and officials.

On 6 June, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin met Chairman of the jiang Sifang Group Mr Lim Guang Ping and party at State Guest House No 10. They discussed production of power tillers and farm machinery.

Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin discussed construction of cotton spinning factory and construction of factory for production of dehydrated vegetables in meeting with Chairman of South Asia Economic and Technical Cooperation (Group) Mr Earol Auyang and ,members at State Guest No 10.

On 6 June, Minister U Aung Thaung met General Manager of China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation at the State Guest House No 12 and discussed construction of textile mills and glass factory in Myanmar.

Minister U Aung Thaung and Chairman of South Asia Economical Corporation Mr H Auyang discussed construction of newsprint factory that can produce 60 tons per day and cement plants. Minister U Aung Thaung and Managing Director of

China Mass Development Corporation Mr Wang and party discussed cooperation in construction of 60 tons newsprint factory and cement plants.

The minister and Chairman of Chenda Chemical Engineering Corporation Mr Sun Zhi also discussed construction of caustic soda factory, soda ash factory and ammonia factory with the use of modern techniques.

The minister and Chairman of Yunnan Province Import and Export Corporation Mr Mar Xing Long discussed construction of ceramics factory and glass factory.

(3) Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing welcome back Secretary-1 on his return from Japan after  attending funeral service of former Japanese PM

YANGON, 12 June-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing this evening welcomed back Special Envoy of the government of Myanmar Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, who attended funeral service of late former Japanese Prime Minister Mr Keizo Obuchi at the invitation of the government of Japan.


(4)  Secretary-2 and wife share merits for Theindawgyi in Dagon Myothit (East)

YANGON, 12 June-The merit-sharing ceremony for Thathanathawbini -htaythanyadana Theindawgyi of Mahasi Sanmyathida Sasana Yeiktha on Kyarsittha Street, Ward-12, Dagon Myothit (East) was held at the centre, this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe.

Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Zagaravbhivamsa of Nagalainggu Kalaywatawya Sarthintaik invested the congregation with the Eight Precepts. Then, members of the Sangha recited parittas. Afterwards, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, officials and well-wishers presented offertories to members of the Sangha. Dwipitakadhara Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Zagaravbhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. After the ceremony, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe and well-wishers offered 'soon' to members of the Sangha.


(5)  Preservation of cultural heritage benefits cultural and tourism sectors

YANGON, 12 June-The Leading Committee to Organize Seminar on Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage and the Role of Tourism Industry in Myanmar held its third coordination meeting at the Ministry of Culture this afternoon.

The Seminar will be hosted in Myanmar from 19 to 23 June in cooperation with the UNESCO and with co-sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

Present on the occasion were Patrons of the Leading Committee Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Chairman of the Leading Committee Director General of the Archaeology Department U Nyunt Han, Vice-Chairman Director General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt and members and chairmen of the respective sub-committees and officials of Hotel Royal Niko, Bagan Hotel, Novotel Hotel (Mandalay), Kandawgyi Palace Hotel, Summit Parkview Hotel, Traders Hotel, Thiripyit-saya Sakura Hotel, Mandalay Swan Hotel, Sedona Hotel (Mandalay), Hotel Equatorial, Myanmar Airways International, Air Mandalay, Yangon Airways and Myanmar Voyage Tourism. Services .

Deputy minister for Hotel and Tourism Brig- Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and officials also gave suggestions.

(6) Minister inspects health activities in Kawthoung, Myeik, Kyunsu townships

YANGON, 12  June-Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, accompanied by Director-General Dr Wan Maung of Health Department and Head of Taninthayi Division Health Department Dr Than Tun Oo, inspected health activities in Kawthoung, Myeik and Kyunsu townships in Taninthayi Division. The minister also inspected Myeik District Hospital and met employees at the hall of Midwifery Training School. In the afternoon, the minister and party arrived at Kyunsu Township Hospital. The minister then fulfilled the requirements of the hospital.


(7)  Laos beat Guam 22-0, Myanmar beat Malaysia 2-1

YANGON, 12 June-The matches of the Group-9 of the 9th Asian Youth Under- 16 Soccer Qualifiers continued at Thuwunna youth Training Center this evening.

Before each match the teams took designated places and flags of respective countries were hoisted. The players exchanged commemorative flags. In the matches, Laos Youth beat Guam Youth 22-0, Myanmar Youth beat Malaysian Youth 2-1.


(8)  GAD holds first four-monthly meeting

YANGON, 12 June-General Administration Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs held its first four-month meeting this afternoon at the department, addressed by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing. Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig- Gen Thura Myint Maung them gave a speech. The meeting then continue.

(9)  26 Singaing Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 12 June-Twenty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Singaing Township, Mandalay Division. Twenty-six members of Singaing. Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Singaing Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 10 February 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
