(1) State Councillors of PRC concludes goodwill visit

YANGON, 4 June- State Councillors of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat and delegation who visited Myanmar at the invitation of Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt left here by air this morning.

Before their departure for home, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt met State Councillors of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat at Innya Kantha State Guest House at 1 pm today.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt and State Councillors of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat left there for Yangon International Airport by car.  State Councillors of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat and delegation left here by air at 1.45 pm today.


(2)Year 2000 World Environment Day observed

YANGON, 4 June-Year 2000 World Environment Day was observed in conjunction with the prize presentation ceremony for Year 2000 World Environment Day Commemorative Open Colour Photo Competition and Basic Education Level Poster and Essay Competitions at the International; Business Center on Paye Roads this morning.

Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony and presented prized to winners.  Also present were the ministers, the deputy ministers, members of Myanmar National environmental Affair , ambassador resident representatives of UN agencies, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, prize winners and guests.  Chairman of MNCEA Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung delivered an address.

Then, the Secretary-1 presented first prize for Competition to Than Htay (Yadanabon), second on prize to Aung Tin (Information and Public Relations Department) and third prize to Than Win (Yangon South District Information and Public Relations Department) and 15 honorary prize.

After the ceremony , the Secretary-1 and party viewed the World Environment Day exhibition.


(3) Secretary-1 inspects all-round renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 4 June-Patron of the Committee for All-Round Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at the Southern Stairway of the Shwedagon Pagoda at 5 pm today.

Then, a coordination meeting on the renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda was held at Old Museum Tazaung on the pagoda platform. Chairman of Working Committee for All- Round Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig- Gen Hsan Hsint reported to the Secretary-1 on the offering of gold-leaf to the pagoda, renovation of religions buildings at the Pagoda, extension of Northern Stairway and construction of car-parking and arrangement to open exhibition on documentary photos of Htidaw Hosting Ceremony of the Shwedagon Pagoda. Secretary-1 Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt gave necessary instruction to officials.

Secretary-1 and party paid obeisance to Padamya Myet Shin Buddha Image on the upper terrace of the pagoda.

Secretary-1 and party also inspected renovation of the religious building on the pagoda platform.

Secretary-1 and party also went to  Naungdawgyi Pagoda and  inspected renovation work of the pagoda and offering of Shwethingan to encircling stupas at Naungdawgyi Pagoda and left there in the evening.

(4) Secretary-1 met President of Hong Kong Olympic Committee

YANGON, 4  June- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt met President of Hong Kong Olympic Committee Mr Timothy Tsun Ting Fok at the guest house of Ministry of Defence at 2 pm today.  Also Present together with the Secretary-1 were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and officials.


(5) Government encourages organizing power of artistes for application in nation-building endeavours Basic Music Course No 1 concludes, Course No 2 opens

 YANGON-4 June-Conclusion of Basic Music Course No 1 and opening of Course No 2 were held in Myananda Hall of Myanmar Music Asiayon in Dagon Myothit Asiayon in Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township this evening, with and address by Secretary-1 of the State Peace Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt.

Chairman Accordion U Ohn Kyaw reported on objectives of the course.  Secretary-1 delivered an address. Next, the Secretary-1 presented prizes to outstanding trainees in classical music, world music and basic music (under age-10) course.  Mayor U Ko lay presented honourable prizes to Ma Sabai Phyu Thei, Maung Zaw Min Oo of basic music course (under age-10).

Minister for Information Maj- Gen Kyi Aung presented honourable prize to U Win Maung and Tekkatho Kyu Kyu Thin and Ma Khin San Oo (Nyaungdon).

Minister for Transport Maj- Gen Hla Myint Swe presented certificates to the trainees. The Secretary-1 and party observed entertainment programme of the trainees. The Chairman of Myanmar Music Asiayon and EC members presented gifts to the Secretary-1.


(6)  Secretary-2 attends ceremony to fix gold bolts at Hline River Bridge (Shwepyitha)

YANGON, 3 June- Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Tin Oo attended a ceremony to fix gold bolts at Hline Rivers Bridge (Shwepyitha) in Hlinethaya Township this morning.  Commander Maj- Gen Khin Maung Than and Minister Maj- Saw Tun fixed gold bolts at the bridge and sprinkled scented water on them.

The Secretary-2 then performed rituals of golden and sliver showers.  The Secretary-2 inspected Hline River Bridge (Shwepyitha)and presented gifts to Chinese technicians.

The steel- framed bridge links Insein and Hlinthaya Townships. It is 3,415 feet long and 52 1/2 feet wide with six-foot walkway and it can bear 60-ton loads. Ninety percent of the bridge is now complete.

(7) Secretary-2 inspects construction of Htaukkyant Kya-in East Ngahsudaung special project road

YANGON, 4 June-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Tin Oo and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office inspected construction of Htaukkyant Kya-in East Ngahsdaung special project road linking No 3 Highway of Yangon- Mandalay Highway and Hmawby Township this afternoon.

Director of Bago Division Development Affairs Committee U Kyan Taing Hsaung reported on construction of the road and further tasks.The Secretary-2 then gave instruction on early completion of the bride, the planting of three on both side of the road sides of the road and cultivation of paddy.  Htaukkyant Kya- in East Ngahsudaung road is 9 miles long. The Secretary-2 inspected Htaukkyant poultry farm of production poultry farm of production unit of Yangon City Development Committee in Mingaladon Township.

Farm in -chare  report on work. Altogether eight farms produce over 6,000 eggs daily. The Secretary-2 then inspected the vegetable patch of Insein Township Peace and Development Council where Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Khin Maung Kyaw reported on the patch.  Then Secretary-2 gave instruction.


(8) PRC State Councillors and delegation tour Mandalay, Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON, 4 June-The visiting Chinese delegation led by State Councillors of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat, accompanied by Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Ambassador of PRC Mr Liang Dong and officials, left here by special flight for Mandalay yesterday morning.

The guests together with the Commander and party went to Nanmyo Guests House.  Then, the guests visited Myanansankyaw Shwenandaw.  Afterwards, Minister U Win Sein presented a souvenir to State Councillors Mr Ismail Amat. Next, the guests paid obeisance to Hsutaungpyay Pagoda on Mandalay Hill and made donations. Then, the guests left for Bagan- NyaungU.

In the evening the guests visited Ananda Pagoda.  The Pagoda Board of Trustees presented a picture of Ananda Pagoda to him.  The guest then visited Bagan ancient pagoda No 803 Pyatthatgyi Pagoda.

On arrival at Bagan Archaeological Museum, Curator U Myint Soe Aung and officials conducted them round the museum.

Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Brig- Gen Thein Zaw hosted dinner at Tatmadaw Guests House in Bagan in honour of the Chinese delegation.

This morning, the Chinese delegation arrived back here from Bagan- NyaungU by special flight.


(9) Military attaches visit Artist Life gallery, Mingaladon Garden City

YANGON, 4 June  - Foreign military attaches led by Military attaches led by Military Attache of the Republic of Korea Col Nae Chan Lee, Deputy Chief of the Office Strategic Studies and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence of the Ministry Defence Maj- Gen Kyaw Win, Ambassador of Singapore Mr Simon de Cruz and wife visited Artist Life gallery and Mingaladon Garden City and took part in the shooting friendly at Okkala Shooting Range this morning.

At 8.30 am, Deputy Chief of OSS Maj- Gen Kyaw Win and military attaches group arrived at Artist Life gallery, the house of Artist U  Lun Kywe at No 409, Toungoo Street in Ward 17, Shwepaukkan Myothit.

At Mingaladon Garden City, Chairman of Zaygabar Co Ltd U Khin Shwe and official explained matters related to Mingaladon Garden City Project and the industrial zone.  The group visited the housing  construction site of  the Yangon Industrial Zone.

At Okkla Shooting Range, Deputy Chief of OSS Maj- Gen Kyaw Win, military attaches and the Ambassador of Singapore took part in the shooting friendly.

(10) CDC passport forgers sentenced to 27, 12 years

YANGON, 4 June -Action was taken  against Tun Myat Thu (a) Naing Lin Hset, son of U Kyaw Thu, and Ma Win Yee, daughter of U Toe Maung, who went to Bangkok, Thailand, forged CDC passports, Seaman certificates and seals there and brought them into Myanmar to sell.

Tun Myat Thu (a) Naing Lin Hset of South Okkalapa Township, Yangon Division, went to Bangkok, Thailand, four times during the period from 1989 to 2000.

In 1995, he met Kyaw Soe Aung (a) Moe Kyaw of ABSDF  insurgent group in Bangkok, Kyaw Soe Aung was then forging CDC passports, and asked Tun Myat Thu to smuggle his forged CDC passports into Myanmar and find prospective buyers.

In November 1999, Tun Myat Thu to, bringing samples of forged CDC passports, entered Myanmar to find prospective buyers. As there were those who would buy a forged CDC passport for as much as K 13,000 up to K 15,000, he went back to Thailand and accepted four packets containing forged Myanmar seaman CDC passports and certificates. Kyaw Soe Aung agreed to give 25,000 bahts to Tun Myat Thu for carrying these foreign to Yangon, and the latter received an advance of 15,000 bahts. Tun Myat Thu got contact with Ma Win Yee from Mawlamyine, who had been in Bangkok illegally and was working as a housemaid. Tun Myat Thu asked Ma Win Yee to send forged CDC passports and certificates to his house in South Okkalapa Township and agreed to give her 10,000 bahts. Thus, he got Ma Win Yee to smuggle forged CDC passports into Myanmar and gave her an advance of 6,000 bahts.

Ma Win Yee brought these forged documents and seals to Maesot in March 2000. She left two packets to Yangon through Myawady road and sent them to the house of Tun Myat Thu in South Okkalapa Township .Then, she went back to Maesot to collect the two packets she left there. While entering Myawady again, she was caught together with 165 forged CDC passport covers, 91 forged first-grade overseas nautical officers certificates and 48 forged certificates of various sorts. According to future investigation, two forged CDC passport , 2,712 forged sheets of CDC passport, 2,712 forged sheets of CDC passport, one draft, three Myanmar passports, 16 forged rubber seals to be used in making forged seaman certificates, one forged State seal made of metal and two forged seals of Marine Administration Department were seized from the house of Tun Myat Thu in South Okkalapa Township.

A legal suit was field against these two persons at Yangon East District Court, and on 31 May, Tun Myat Thu (a) Naing Lin Hset was sentenced to 27 year's imprisonment and Ma Win Yee to 12 year's imprisonment.


(11) Voters of five townships of Ayeyawady Division unanimously express sentiment for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 4 June -The people  from five townships, Ayeyawady Division, expressed  their sentiment on dissolving National League for Democracy at mass meetings at five venues of the respective township on 14 May.

On behalf of attendance's, Junior Assistant Teacher U Myunt Soe of Ward 7 in Pathein Township to dissolve Pathein Township NLD. The motion was seconded by JAT Daw Maysi Kyaing of Ward 2, farmer U Aye Maung of Myochaung Village and merchant Daw Nyo Lwin Thant of Ward 1.

There are 190,600 electors in Pathein Township . The number of people who expressed sentiment for dissolving Pathein Township NLD, is 165,629 people or 86.90 percent.


(12) Drug traffickers get 10, 5 years

YANGON, 4 June- Members of Yangon Division Special Anti- drug Squad found two of U Hla Thein, No 82, Anugmingala Street, Ward 13, Hline Township and Tin Htut, 38, son of U Tin Sein No 8, Dawna Street, Ward 20, Dagon Myothit (South) at Moe Ma Kah Teashop on Kan Street, Hline Township, on 18 May 1998.

When the authorities searched on them they found 6.256 grams of dried opium in their possession. Action was taken against the two under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The Yangon (west) District Court handed down five year's imprisonment under Section 15 and 10 year's imprisonment  under 16 (c) of the law Saw Nyein to serve separately on 18 May 2000.   The court also handed down five year's imprisonment under Section 15 on Tin Htut the same day.


(13) 8 Salingyi Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 26 May- Eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Salingyi Township, Sagaing  Division. Eight members of Salingyi Township, Sagaing  Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to  Salingyi Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 18 April 2000  as they no longer wish to participate in party politics of NLD.
