(1)  Senior General Than Shwe meets State Councillor of PRC

YANGON, 2 June- Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander -in Chair of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe met State Councillor of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat and Delegation currently here on a goodwill visit, at Credentials Hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw Building at 2 pm today.

Also present together with Senior General Than Shwe were Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander - in Chief of Defence Services Commander -in Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary -3 Lt-Gen Win Myint,  Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.The Guests were accompanied by Ambassador of People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong.
 


(2)  General Maung Aye  meets Defence Attaches of India

YANGON, 2 June- Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Commander- in -Chief  (Army) General Maung Aye received Development Attache of India Col Jasbir Singh, VSM, who had completed his tour of duty and his successor Col Shakti and Development Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations  and Chief of Staff  (Army ) Lt-Gen Tin Oo members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief   (Navy ) Vice-admiral Nyunt Thein and Commander -in- Chief  (Air ) Lt- Gen Kyaw Than.
 


(3) General Maung Aye meets Military attaches of Socialist Republic of Vietnam

YANGON, 2 June-Vice -Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Commander- in -Chief  (Army) General Maung Aye met Military Attaches of Socialist Republic of Vietnam Senior Colonel NguyenNgoc Lu who had completed his tour of duty and his successor Senior Colonel Le Van Vy at the Ministry of Defence at 9 am today.

Also Present together with General Maung Aye were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and  Development Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations  and Chief of Staff  (Army ) Lt-Gen Tin Oo members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief   (Navy ) Vice-admiral Nyunt Thein and Commander -in- Chief (Air ) Lt- Gen Kyaw Than.

(4) Secretary-1 receives UN Assistant Secretary-General 

YANGON, 2 June- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and  Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt received United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Dr Nay Tun  at the guest house of Ministry of Defence at 5 pm today.

Also present at the call were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig- Gen Able , Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung win, Director General of Protocol Department Thraa U Aung Htet and Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme Mr Patrice Coeur Bizot.


(5) Diplomacy plays crucial role in keeping nation free from influence of some big nations 

YANGON-2 June-A ceremony to open Course in Diplomacy No 2 sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held at the ministry today, addressed by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were ministers, the chief justice, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, directors-general of departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials, instructors and trainees.
The Secretary-1 thanked seasoned personnel and retired ambassadors for their assistance in conducting the course in diplomacy designed to enable diplomats and the cord with the international changing situation.In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urge the trainees to strive for full realization of the aims of the course; and to strive to exhilarate and correct their conviction and views in uplifting their diplomatic skills; and all the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have the conviction to become brilliant diplomats serving the interest of the nation and nation and the people in discharging their duties. The 17-week course is being attended by 40 trainees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries.


(6)  Minister meets Japan visitor

YANGON, 1 June- Minister for finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Development Director General of Development Bank of Japan Mr Kiyoshi Goto and party at his office at 9 am today.  Also present at the call was Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.

(7) Secretary-3 attended opening ceremony of Photo Exhibition

YANGON, 1 June-The opening ceremony of Photo and Pictures Exhibition to mark the 50th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Myanmar and the People's Republic of China was held at the City Hall of Yangon Development Committee  at 9 am today, attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Win Myint.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung , ministers ,senior Tatmadaw officers , heads of department , ambassadors and embassy staff, Ambassador of PRC Mr Liang Dong and embassy staff.

Ambassador of PRC Mr Liang Dong spoke on the occasion and Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung made a speech on the occasion.

Then, Minister U Win Aung and Ambassador Mr Liang Dong formally opened the photo exhibition. After opening exhibition, Secretary-3 Lt- Gen Win Myint, minister and deputy ministers, ambassadors and embassy staff and guest inspected the exhibition.  The photo exhibition will open up to 4 June from 9 am to 5 pm daily with free charge.


(8) PRC Sate Councillor and delegation visit Bago

YANGON, 2 June-State Councillor of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat and delegation currently here on a goodwill visit, accompanied by Minister for Culture U Win Sein and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Bago this morning.

State Councillor of the People's Republic of China Mr Ismail Amat and delegation presented flowers , lights and scented water to Buddha image at Prayer Hall of Shwemadaw Pagoda and history of  Hanthawady and renovation and reconstruction of Kanbawza Thadi Places.

Then, State Councillor Mr Ismail Amat and delegation viewed the Bamayathana Throne and Archaeological Museum in Bago.  The delegation then left Bago for Yangon in the afternoon.

(9) Agreement singed on building 500-ton cement plant

YANGON 2 June  - A ceremony to sign an agreement on building 500-ton Kyaukse Cement Plant to be undertaken jointly by Myanma Ceramics Industry of the Ministry of Industry-1  and China National Constructional and Agricultural Import and Export Corporation  (CAMC ) of the People’s Republic of China, was held at the ministry on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road today.

The capacity of Kyaukse Cement Plant is 500 tons a day. The value of machinery and technology is US$ 16.5 million. The project will be implemented within 22 months after the agreement has been concluded.


(10) 22 Kyaukse Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 26 May-Twenty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Division. Twenty-two members of  Kyaukse Township NLD, Mandalay  Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to  Kyaukse Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 5 March 2000 as they no longer wish to participate in party politics of NLD.
