(1)  State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than  Shwe   sends felicitations to Azerbaijan

YANGON, 28 May-Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and   Development Council  of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of   felicitations to His Excellency Mr Heydar A Aliyev,  President of the  Republic   of Azerbaijan, on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of    Azerbaijan which falls on 28 May 2000.

YANGON, . 28 May -On the occasion of the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the   Establishment of  Diplomatic Relations between the Union of Myanmar and the

YANGON, 28 May - Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung of the Union of   Myanmar and Minister  of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of  Vietnam   Mr Nguyan Dy Nien exchanged messages on  the occasion of the 25th  anniversary   of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two  countries which   falls on today.


(4)  Secretary-1 attends corner-stone laying ceremony of MCEA (New  Office)

YANGON, 27 May-A ceremony to lay corner-stone of Myanmar Construction   Entrepreneurs  Association (New Office) was held on Bawsin Street in  Thuwunna,   Thingungyun Township, this  morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State   Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.  Daw Than Than Win of  Myanmar   Radio and Television read the agenda. Chairman of MCEA U Khin  Shwe said  that   the new two-storey office will be constructed at the cost of K 150 million   and it will
include recreation centre, swimming pool, training hall and   meeting hall, and it will be completed in one year. Member of Advisers  Board   for Myanmar Calendars Saya U Kyaw read the stone inscriptions.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 laid the casket of nine gems. At the  auspicious   time, the Secretary-1, the  commander and the ministers laid the  corner-stone.   Then, the Secretary-1 laid the stone inscriptions.  Next, the Secretary-1,  the   commander and the ministers sprinkled scented water on the casket, and    stone inscriptions. The ceremony ended with the three-time recitation of   Buddha Sasanan Ciram Titthatu. The Secretary-1 performed rituals of   golden and silver showers to mark the success of the ceremony.

(5)  Malaysian Chief of Army of Armed Forces and delegation visit   Taunggyi, PyinOoLwin, Mandalay

YANGON, 27 May - Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato'  Seri   Md Hashim Bin  Hussein and,wife and delegation currently here at the   invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace  and Development Council  Deputy   Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief  (Army) General   Maung Aye, accompanied by Director of Ordnance Services Brig-Gen Chit Than   and Defence Adviser at the Malaysian Embassy Lt-Col Harun Bin Hitan, left   here by Tatmadaw aircraft for Heho on 25 May morning and arrived at Heho   Airport at 10 am.

Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin   Hussein and wife and  delegation went to Taunggyi by car and spent the  night   there.

Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo and wife Daw Khin Lay Myint hosted dinner in   honour of the  Malaysian guests at Thanlwin Hall of the Command. After the   dinner, Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo  and General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin   Hussein exchanged gifts. Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo and  wife Daw Khin Lay   Myint saw off General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife and   delegation,
who left Heho by Tatmadaw Aircraft for Mandalay on 26 May   morning. The visiting General and wife and party, accompanied by Col Win  Tin,   left there for PyinOoLwin.

 They arrived at Defence Services Technological Academy in the afternoon  and   were welcomed by  Commandant Brig-Gen Win Myint, Director (Literature) and   heads of faculty, heads of department and  instructors. Head of faculty  Lt-Col   Nyan Tun explained facts about the academy. Then, General Dato'  Seri Md   Hashim Bin Hussein signed in the visitors' book.

Commandant Brig-Gen Win Myint and General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein   exchanged gifts and  had photos taken. The delegation went to Defence  Services   Academy and were welcomed there by  Commandant Brig-Gen Tin Oo, the  Director   (Literature), the chief instructor and heads of department.

At the convocation hall, Director ( Literature) Col Myint Aung explained   facts about the DSA.  General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein signed in  the   visitors' book. General and delegations next  visited the Computer  Department    at the academy. The General and delegation left there for Mandalay  by car.

The Malaysian delegation then visited U Sein Myint's Gold Embroidery in   Aungmyaythazan  Township and Shwehsinhai Sericulture Industry in Amarapura   Township.

 The general Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife and delegation  visited   Mynan Sankyaw  Shwenandaw and cultural museum of the Shwenandaw this  morning.

 The general Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife and delegation, who   left Mandalay by  Tatmadaw aircraft for Yangon in the afternoon.


(6)  Secretary-1 attends signing ceremony for construction of  Cooperative   Commercial Centre

YANGON, 27 May-Cooperative Buildings Construction Work Committee of   Cooperative Department  and Shwe Asia Cooperative Society signed a contract  to   construct Cooperative Commercial Centre at  the Centre at the corner of new   University Avenue and Saya San Road this morning, attended by  Secretary-1  of   the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San said a contract would be signed to continue to   construct CCC with the
investment of the cooperative societies. He said   cooperative societies are striving to become ones which serve the interest  of   the state and to make progress in agriculture, industry, manufacturing,    marketing and financial sectors beginning the present fiscal year in  accord   with the Secretary-1's  guidance on development of cooperative enteprises.

Chairman of Cooperative Buildings Construction Work Committee Director of   Cooperative Department  Lt-Col Tin Win and Chairman of Shwe Asia  Cooperative   Society U Khin Shwe signed the contract and  exchanged the documents.  Director   Lt-Col Tin Win presented the permit of Myanmar Investment  Commission to U   Khin Shwe. U Khin Shwe then reported on construction of CCC and presented
commemorative gifts to the Secretary-1 and Minister U Aung San. The   Secretary-1 and party inspected the computer room, the language lab and   Taekwondo hall.


(7) Singapore Shwekyaung Sayadaw makes donation for installation of air   conditioners at Maha  Pasana Cave and recording of Three Pitakas Pali  (Myanmar   translation) on CD-ROM

YANGON , 27 May-Well wishers Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Buddhist  Shwekyaung   Sayadaw of  Singapore Venerable Shi Fa Zhao and disciples made a donation  for   installation of air-conditioners at  Maha Pasana Cave and for the recording  of   Three Pitakas Pali (Myanmar translation) on CD-ROM at
Soonsar Kyaung of   Nikaya Sarthintaik on Pale Road in Dagon Myothit (South) at 4.45 pm today,   attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen   Khin Nyunt.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party received the Five Precepts from   Chairman of State Sangha  Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru   Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika  Presiding Sayadaw of Nikaya  Sarthintaik   haddanta Sobhita.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, ministers and the mayor presented  offertories   to members of the  Sangha.

Then, Shwekyaung Sayadaw of Singapore Venerable Shi Fa Zhao presented US $   40,000 for  installation of air-conditioners at Maha Pasana Cave, Venerable

Shi Pu Lunt K 1 million for the recording of Three Pitakas Pali (Myanmar   translation) on CD-ROM,  Venerable Lin Whi Sein and Venerable Kway Su  Shoung K   320,000 for Nikaya Sarthintaik, Mayor U Ko  Lay K 20 million donated by  YCDC   for Ordination Hall of the Nikaya Sarthintaik and Daw Hla Kyi and  family  of   Sri Asia Travel Enterprise K 1 million for Nikaya Sarthintaik to  Secretary-1   Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, who presented certificates of honour to them.

Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru   Abhidhaja Agga  Maha Saddhamma Jotika Presiding Sayadaw of Nikaya  Sarthintaik   Bhaddanta Sobhita delivered a  sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

(8)  Secretary-1 attends opening of new building of BEPS No 31 in Tamway

YANGON, 27 May-A ceremony to open the new building of Basic Education  Primary   School No 31,  Tamway township, built in the compound of Myitta Nyunt  Housing   Estate Project in Tamway  Township and donated by Kaung He in Construction   under the supervision of the Department of  Human Settlement and Housing   Development of the Ministry of Construction was held at the school in
Myanma   Gonyaung Street, Myitta Nyunt Ward, Tamway Township this morning, attended  by   Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and   Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Director-General of DHSHD U Arnt Kyaw, Deputy Director-General of No 3  Basic   Education  Department U Tin Win and Daw Desi Kyaw of Kaung Hein Construct   on   formally opened the school  building.

Then, a ceremony to mark the opening of the school building was held in  Kaung   Hein Hall on the first  floor of the school building. Daw Desi Kyaw  explained   construction of the new school building. Well-wishers U Kyaw Aye and Daw  Desi   Kyaw and Director-General U Arnt Kyaw handed over documents related to the   new school building and the land-grant to Deputy Director General U Tin  Win.

Headmistress Daw Aye bye accepted K 100,000 donated to the school  maintenance   trust fund by U Kyaw Aye and Daw Desi Kyaw. In meeting with the teachers,  the   Secretary-1 said that due to economic reforms of the State, there have   emerged opportunities of doing business; the successful entrepreneurs have   donated school buildings to enable children to pursue education  peacefully.   In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged the teachers to maintain the school   buildings and to nurture
students to become stalwart sons and daughters  who   will serve the interest of the nation.

 Then, the Secretary-1 inspected the new school building. The new school   building was built at a total cost of K 21.5 million including K 20  million   for the construction of the main school building, K 500,000 for  installation   of electric lights, K 400,000 for the altar room and K 600,000 for the   surfacing of Myanma Gonyaung Street with tar in front of the school.

The new school building is of reinforced concrete type, 134 feet in length   and 30 feet in width, comprising eight classrooms, one meeting room, one   altar room, one office for the headmaster, one staff recreation room, one   computer room, and one store room.


(9) Ministry of Immigration and Population holds coord meeting

YANGON, 27 May-Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun attended  the   first four- monthly work coordination meeting of. the Ministry of  Immigration   and Population in the meeting hall  of Population and National Registration   Department on Pansodan Street this morning. The minister  urged ad to work   with diligence arid moral conducts, to be loyal to the State and to strive  to   become
good service -personnel Then, prizes for outstanding performance  were   given away.


(10)  Minister inspects Archaeological Museum in Bagan

YANGON, 27 May-Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Director-General of   Department of Archaeology U  Nyunt Han and officials inspected social and   military booths of Bagan period at Archaeological  Museum in Bagan on 26  May.   The minister gave instructions on display of painting depicting social and   military activities of the kings of Bagan period and presenting way of  life   of ministers, wealthy
persons and ordinary people. Professor U Myint San  of   Sculpture Department of University of Culture Yangon and Director-General  U   Nyunt Han and Architect Tanpawady U Win Maung reported on paintings to be   displayed.

(11) Drug trafficker gets 12 years

YANGON, 27 May- Kengtung Township Police members acting on information,   searched one Cho Fa,  21, son of U Ah Sin, No 5 Naung Pha Ward, Kengtung   Township, on 24-11-97 and seized 20170  stimulant tablets and 0.004 kilo of
heroin from him. He was tried under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and   Psychotropic Substances  Law and sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment on   29-2-2000 by Kengtung District Court.


(12)  Myanmar wins UAE Health Foundation Award

YANGON, 27 May-The Myanmar health delegation led by Minister for Health  Maj   -Gen Ket Sein  arrived back here from Geneva, Switzerland, by air this   afternoon after attending the 53th WHO  Conference. The delegation was   welcomed back by Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw  Tun,  Minister   for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo,   heads  of department under the Ministry of Health, Acting WHO Resident   Representative Dr Lin Aung,
Ambassador of Singapore Mr Simon De Cruz and   officials.

 At the 53rd WHO Conference, United Arab Emirates Health Foundation Award  was   presented to two  nations including Myanmar and Sasakawa Award to three  member   countries.  Minister Maj- Gen Ket  Sein accepted the award and US $ 20000 at  the   conference.


(13)  Voters of Singaing Township Constituency-2 submit petitions for   dissolving pessimist NLD, no confidence in its representative-elect Dr Hla   Soe Nyunt

YANGON, 27 May- Voters of Singaing Township Constituency-2, Mandalay   Division, submitted  signed petitions expressing no confidence in Dr Hla  Soe   Nyunt elected as Pyithu Hluttaw  Representative of National League for   Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election  from Singaing   Township Constituency-2 and no support for him and pessimist NLD and   petitioned
for dissolving it at the rallies held in four venues of the   township on I0 April and five venues on 12 April. A total of 3,452 people  who   rallied in Kanthit Village tract, 5,860 in Yanking Village-tract, 4,567 in

Hinngu Village-tract, 3,700 from Wuntho Village-tract,6,795 in Paleik   Village-tract, 5,815 in Shangan  Village-tract, 2,300 in Mogaung   Village-tract, 5,700 in Ywahaunggon Village-tract and 5,853 in  Dauntgyigwe   Village-tract submitted signed petitions expressing no confidence in Dr  Hla   Soe Nyunt  elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of National League for   Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Singaing   Township Constituency-2 and no support for him and
expressed no support  for   pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it.

Then, they presented petitions signed by the people to members of Township

Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission in the respective   venues. The rallies ended  with chanting of the slogan Our Three Main  National   Causes.   Out of 24,802 eligible voters in  Singaing Township Constituency-2, 15,458  or   62.33 per cent voted for Dr Sa Soe Nyunt of NLD in 1990  Election. The  number   of voters who presented signed petitions of no confidence in Dr Hla Soe  Nyunt    totalled 30,961 or 124.83 per cent. There are 74,788 people, who can vote,  in   Singaing Township. The number of people, who   expressed no support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it,  is   60,  145 people or 80.42 per cent.

(14) Minister inspects unloading of machinery Tom ship at Yangon Port

YANGON, 27 May-Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by   Deputy Minister Lt- Col Khin Maung Kyaw and officials, inspected unloading  of   ins ported machinery from mv Luna Azul  at Sule Jetty, Yangon Port  yesterday.   The minister gave instructions on sending machinery to  factories in time,   minimizing loss and wastage and storage the machinery before being  installed.   The  48 containers of machinery weighing 221 tons are the third batch of  the   machinery imported from
China for disc wheel, bearing and radiator  factories   under construction in Inndakaw.

Yangon Division secures championship in 31st ISD Boxing Tournament

YANGON, 27 May-The prize presentation ceremony of the 31st  Inter-State/Division Boxing Tournament was held at Youth Training Centre  in   Thuwunna this afternoon.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee  Minister   for Sports Brig-Gen  Thura Aye Myint, Director-General of Sports and  Physical   Education Department Col Thaung Htaik,  President of Myanmar Boxing  Federation   President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers  of    Commerce and Industry U Win Myint, Vice-Presidents Commandant of Defence   Services Self-
defence and Sports Institute Col Sein Tin Win, Deputy   Director-General U Hla Myint of the Ministry of Forestry and Deputy   Director-General Lt-Col Thein Aung of SPED, executives, guests, and    spectators.

In the final matches, Tun Win of Shan State (East) beat Yan Myo Aung of   Yangon in Pin-weight, San  Lwin of Yangon beat Zaw Sai of Mandalay in light   Flyweight,   Kyaw Kyaw Latt of Yangon beat Hsan  Min Lan of Sagaing in Flyweight, Myint   bung of Bago beat Zin Maung Maung of Yangon in Bantam- weight, Aye Myint of   Mandalay beat Tin Tun Aung of Sagaing in Featherweight, Saw Khaing of
Ayeyawady beat Ha Hon of  Mandalay in lightweight. Htay  Naung of Rakhine  in   Light Middle-weight Myo Zaw of Bago in Light Welterweight, Aung Kyaw Kyaw  of   Yangon beat Myint Swe of Kachin in  Welterweight, Htay Lwin of Bago beat  Win   Naing of Rakhine in Light Middle    Zaw of Bago in Light  Welterweight, Aung Kyaw Kyaw of Yangon beat Myint Swe  of   Kachin in Welterweight, Htay Lwin of
Bago beat Win Naing of Rakhine in  Light   Middle weight and Myo Zaw Tun of Bago beat Ha Kee of  Sagaing in  Middleweight.   Officials presented prizes to the respective winners. Col Thaung Htaik    presented the Best Boxer Award to Tun Win of Shan State (East). President  of   MBF U Win Myint  presented prize to Yangon Division team. Then, Minister   Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint presented Championship Shield to Yangon Division   team.


(16) 53 North Okkalapa Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 27 May-Fifty-three members resigned from the National League for   Democracy of North  Okkalapa Township, Yangon Division. fifthy-three members  of   North Okkalapa Township NLD,  Yangon Division, of their own accord,  resigned   by sending letters- of resignation to North Okkalapa Township Multiparty   Democracy General Election Subcommission and the party concerned on 23 May
2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
