(1)  Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife and delegation arrive

YANGON, 24 May-At the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development  Council  Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General  Maung Aye,  Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin  Hussein and wife and
delegation arrived here by special flight at 2.30 pm today on a goodwill visit  to the Union of Myanmar.

General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife and delegation were welcomed at Yangon   International Airport by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy   Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and  wife  Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council  Adjutant-General Lt-Gen  Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, members of the Council  Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-
Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw  Than and Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon  Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy  Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs  Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla and their wives,
Ambassador of Malaysia Dato'  Mohammad Bin Noh and Defence Adviser at the Malaysian Embassy Lt-Col Harun Bin Hitan and  their wives. General Maung Aye and Daw Mya Mya San and General Dato'  Seri Md Hashim Bin  Hussein and wife and delegation then proceeded to the reception hall at the  airport.

 General Maung Aye and General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein took the salute of the Guard  of  Honour of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air). Accompanied by General Maung Aye and  Daw Mya  Mya San, General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife and delegation  proceeded to the  Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road.


(2)  Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces visits Memorial to Fallen Heroes

YANGON, 24 May - Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato' Seri Md Hashim  Bin  Hussein and delegation, currently here on a goodwill visit, visited the Memorial to Fallen Heroes  at 4  pm today. Accompanied by Director of Ordnance Services of the Ministry of Defence  Brig-Gen Chit  Than, Defence Adviser at the Malaysian Embassy Lt-Col Harun Bin Hitan and  officials, General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and delegation arrived there and were  welcomed by Chair man of the Maintenance Subcommittee Col Myo Myint and military officers.  Myint and military officers. General  Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and delegation laid flower  basket and paid tribute to the fallen  heroes.

 The visiting General then signed in the visitors' book. The Malaysian General and delegation then   visited the Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road. They were welcomed there by   Director of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute Col Ye Htut and officials.  The  officials concluded them around the museum.



(3)  General Maung Aye meets Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces and delegation

YANGON, 24 May - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander- in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye met  Chief of Army of  Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and  delegation at Zeyathiri  Beikhman, Konmyinttha at 6 pm today.

 With General Maung Aye were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of  the  Office of Strategic Studies Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,  Secretary-3 of  the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint  members of the Council  Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein,  Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and  Development Council Commander of Yangon Command  Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy  Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister  for Foreign Affairs U. Win Aung and officials. The Chief of Army of
Malaysian Armed Forces and  delegation were accompanied by Ambassador of Malaysia Dato' Mohammad Bin Noh and  Defence Adviser at the Malaysian Embassy Lt-Col Harun Bin Hitan.

(4) General Maung Aye and wife host dinner in honour of Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and  wife

YANGON, 24 May Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and  wife Daw Mya Mya San hosted dinner in honour of Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces  General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein and wife currently here on a goodwill visit and  delegation at Zeyathiri Beikhman
on Konmyinttha this evening. During and after the dinner, Fine  Arts Department of Ministry of Culture presented an entertainment programme to the guests.



(5)  Wife of Chief of Army of Malaysian Armed Forces visits MMCWA

YANGON, 24 May - Datin Seri Rabtah Bte Abu Bakar, wife of (Chief of Army of Malaysian  Armed  Forces General Dato' Seri Md Hashim Bin Hussein who is currently here on a goodwill visit  at the  invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief  of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, and  party visited Myanmar
Maternal and Child Welfare Association Multi-purpose Building in South  Okkalapa Township here today.

Accompanied by Daw Khin Aye Mu, wife of the Director of Ordnance Services of the Ministry of   Defence Brig-Gen Chit Than, the guests visited the Multipurpose Building of MMCWA. On arrival  at  the building, they were welcomed by

Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win  Shwe and  executives. Chairperson Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe explained points of the association.  The two sides  then discussed matters related to maternal and child welfare activities.  Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin  Win Shwe presented gifts to Datin Seri Rabtah Bte Abu  Bakar.Datin Seri Rabtah Bte Abu Bakar then
presented cash donations to MMCWA. Prof Daw  Kyu Kyu Swe accepted the donations. After signing in the visitors' book, she studied the  documentaries of MMCWA. Datin Seri Rabtah Bte Abu Bakar and  party then visited Myanma  Gems Museum of Myanma Gems Enterprise.



(6)  Deputy Prime Minister receives foreign visitors

YANGON, 24 May- Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Chairman  of  Ivanhoe Myanmar Holding co Ltd. Mr Robert Martin Friedland and patty at his office this  morning.  Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, Adviser U Hla  Kyi and  departmental officials.

(7)  Minister meets UNICEF official

YANGON, 24 May-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin met Resident  Representative of UNICEF in Yangon Mr John Bertrand Mendis and party at his office this  evening.  They discussed plans to expand the projects to ensure availability of pure water and  sufficiency in  drinking water in Myanmarj ointly operated with UNICEF. Also present at the call  were officials of  departments and services under the ministry.



(8)  SRV broadcasting delegation arrives

YANGON, 24 May-Under the cooperation programme between the Broadcasting Department of   Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Myanma Radio and Television, a four-member broad-casting   delegation led by Director of Broadcasting Department of SRV Mr Nguyen Quye Chau, arrived  here by  air this evening. They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by the director  (Admin) of  MRTV and officials.



(9) Minister receives Indian visitors

YANGON, 24 May-Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received President of Chamber of   Commerce and Industry Mr GL Goenka and party accompanied by Second Secretary of Indian  Embassy  to the Union of Myanmar Mr Avinash C Pandoy, at his office this afternoon. Also present  at the call  were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Directors-General and Managing  Directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry.



(10)  Seminar on total Solutions for Banking Industry held

YANGON, 24 May- Seminar on Total Solutions for Banking Industry sponsored by  MCC-Mastech  Group was held at International Business Centre with the help of the Ministry of  Finance and Revenue  and the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs. It was attended  by Minister for Finance  and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Minister for Communications, Posts  and Telegraphs Brig- Gen Win
Tin and officials. Managing Director U Tin Win Aung of  MCC-Mastech Group explained the purpose of holding the seminar. Minister U Khin Maung Thein  made a speech on the occasion, stressing the  importance of applying computer network in banking  services. Experts of MCC-Mastech and its  partners Getronics Solutions, Infosys Technology, Digi  Safe Pte Ltd and Quantum Dynamic Consultant
explained and demonstrated application of  computer network on banking.


(11) Myanmar broadcasting delegation leaves for Vietnam

YANGON, 24 May-Under the cooperation programme between the Vietnamese broadcasting   department and Myanma Radio and Television , Myanmar  broadcasting delegation led byes  Director  (Broadcasting) U Ko Ko Htwe, Assistant Director U Tun Lin Aung, Staff Officer Daw  Khin Myo Win  and Staff Officer Daw Khin Malar Tun of Myanma Radio and Television of  Ministry of Information left
here by air this morning for Vietnam.

(12)  Minister inspects development work of Yangon International Airport

YANGON, 24 May - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for  Transport  Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Director-General of Transport Department Col Nyan Tun Aung,  Director-General  of Department for Civil Aviation U Win Maung and officials, arrived at Yangon  International Airport  this morning. The minister gave instructions to officials. He went to construction  site of Thabinnyu
Pagoda in Dhammaythaka Sarthintaik, North Okkalapa Township. He inspected  laying of concrete, construction of archway and stairs of the pagoda, construction of Buddha images  and standing  Buddha image to be kept at the pagoda: The minister gave instructions to officels.

(13)  Ministry of Rail Transportation holds annual meeting to review tasks

YANGON, 24 May-The Ministry of Rail Transportation held the second-day session of the annual   meeting to review the tasks for 1999-2000 and make plans for 2000-2001 at the ministry today. It  was  attended by Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung  Lwin. the  and senior officials under the ministry. The minister and the deputy minister spoke on the  occasion.

Officials then presented reports on departmental work to the meeting. The minister gave instructions   on the resorts.


(14) Minister inspects rice mill, warehouses of MAPI

YANGON, 24 May-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, accompanied by officials,  inspected No  02 of Yangon Division 60 ton Rice Mill of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading in  Mingala  Taungnyunt Township this morning. Officials concerned reported to the minister on use of  platform  scales and storage of rice. The minister then proceeded to Direct Freight Handling Section  4 in  Mayangon Township. The minister gave instructions on their reports and then inspected storage  of  rice in warehouses.

 -German Football Federation donates sports goods to MFF

YANGON, 24 May-German Football Federation donated variety of sports goods to Myanmar  Football Federation today in view of the German candidature for the Football World Cup 2006.  On behalf of the  German Football Federation, Ambassador of Germany to Myanmar Dr Marius  Haas handed the sports
goods to Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint. The donation  included 225 jerseys, 975 sports-shirts and T-shirts, 975 shorts, 225 pants, 225 pairs of socks,  750 sports bags and 375 footballs.

 -Committee for Ensuring Success of Myanmar Sports meets

YANGON, 24 May-The Committee for Ensuring Success of Myanmar Sports held Meeting  V2000 at  National Indoor Stadium-1, Thuwunna, attended by Chairman of Committee for Ensuring  Success of  Myanmar Sports Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Yangon Mayor U  Ko Lay, Vice-Chairman of the committee Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for  Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, members of the Committee, senior military officers, General

Secretary of MOC Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Col Thaung  Htaik and officials, presidents of sports federations and guests.

U Ko Lay spoke on the occasion, saying that the government is giving encouragement for  improvement of Myanmar Sports, and responsible officials are to make concerted efforts for  attaining the goal, and requirements will be provided for promotion of Myanmar sports standard.

Then, Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint discussed work done, selection of athletes, training,  performances, drawing plans to achieve success and future tasks. Col Thaung Htaik reported on  training of the athletes. The attendance also took part in the discussions. MOC Chairman Brig-Gen  Thura Aye Myint accepted K 20 million donated by YCDC and K 10 million by Vice-Chairman of  Asia Wealth Bank Co Ltd.

-MPF  President's  Cup Karatedo C'ship on 29-30 May

 YANGON, 23 May-Myanmar Karatedo Federation President's Cup Karatedo Championship will  be  held Aung San Stadium on 29 and 30 May.

(16) MPT to issue new postage stamp to mark 50th anniversary of PRC Myanmar diplomatic ties

YANGON, 24 May- Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications will issue a new K5 postage stamp  to  mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Myanmar and the People's Republic of  China.

The new postage stamp is available at post offices in states and divisions beginning 9.30 am on 8  June.

As a special programme for stamp collectors, First Day Covers will be sold at GPOs in Yangon  and  Mandalay and the FDCs will be cancelled. Those who buy FDCs will be presented  complementary  pamphlets.


(17)  Voters of NyaungU Township Constituency-l submit petitions expressing no confidence in NLD representative-elect U Cho

YANGON, 24 May-Eligible voters of NyaungU Township Constituency-1, Mandalay Division,  submitted signed petitions expressing no confidence in U Cho elected as Pyithu Hluttaw   Representatives of National League for

Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from NyaungU Township   Constituency-land no support for him at the rallies in Thantsinkyai and Singu village-tracts in the   Constituency-1 in township on 25 April morning. A total of 16,792 people from 27 wards and   Villagetract rallied in Thantsinkywar Village.

On behalf of voters, U Kyaw Shwe expressed no confidence in U Cho of NLD and no support for  him.  Afterwards, U Nyunt Shwe and U Aye Kyi, on behalf of all voters, presented declarations  expressing  no confidence in U Cho of NLD and no support for him signed by voters to Members of  Township  Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission UHmwe Kyu and U Ko Ko  Htwe. A similar  rally was attended by 15,500 people from 21 wards and Villagetract in Singu  Village. On behalf of voters, U Myo Nyunt expressed no confidence in U Cho of NLD and no  support for him. Afterwards, U Kyaw  Kyaw and U Than Nyunt Oo, on behalf of ad voters,  presented declarations expressing no confidence  in U Cho of NLD and no support for him signed  by voters to Members of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission U  Kyi Lwin and U Soe Hlaing.

Out of 62,774 eligible voters in NyaungU Township Constituency-1, 29,884 or 47.60 per cent  voted for  U Cho of NLD in 1990 Election. The number of voters who presented declarations  expressing no  confidence it U Cho of NLD and no support for him totaled 68,730 or 109.48 per  cent at present. Now,  out of 69,285 eligible voters in NyaungU Township Constituency-1, the  number of voters who  presented petitions expressing no confidence in U Cho of NLD and no  support for him totaled 68,730 or 99.2 per cent at present.

(18) Illegal drug possessor gets six years

YANGON, 24 May-The Monyin Township Court handed down a sentence of six years'  imprisonment  on a drug possessor on 27 January 1999. Members of Monyin Township Police  Force, acting on  information, searched the farmhouse of Labyaku, son of U Labya Saingnaung, Ae'  Lon Village, Monyin  Township, at 6 pm on 24 November 1998 and found 0.01 kg of heroin.


(19) 8 Singaing  Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 23 May-Eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Singaing   Township, Mandalay  Division. Eight members of Singaing Township NLD, Mandalay  Division, of   their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Singaing Township Multiparty   Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 10 January 2000 as they  no
longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
