( 1 ) Secretary-1 and wife attend Korean folk dance show marking 25th  anniversary Myanmar-ROK dip ties

YANGON, 16 May- A Korean folk dance programme marking the 25th anniversary of  the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Union of Myanmar and the  Republic of Korea was staged at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street  this evening. Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen  Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe attended it.  Among the audience were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development  Council Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and  Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla and wives, officials, Ambassador  of the Republic of Korea to Myanmar Mr Chung Junggum and wife, resident  representatives and officials of UN agencies in Myanmar, heads of departments  and specially invited guests. The Korean artistes entertained the guests with  Kyonggi Minyo, a folk song from the central region of Republic of Korea,   a dance purifying the mind and soul, Kayo, a song entitled "The  Moon of the Seoul", Sin-Minyo song, Baebangi-Kut, a prayer dance, Sonnbi  dance (Hall Yong Ch'um dance) and Arirang song, the spring of the native  village.

 After the entertainment programme, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and  Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and  Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for  Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Minister for Culture U Win Sein and  Ambassador Mr Chung Jung-gum presented flower baskets and bouquets to the ROK  folk dance troupe.  The entertainment programme continues at the same venue on 17 May at 6 pm.  Tickets for the programme can be obtained at the Embassy of the Republic of  Korea.


(2)Soon offered to Sayadaws of State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon)

YANGON, 16 May-Staff families of the Ministry of Transport offered soon   and offertories to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha of the State  Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) at the Tekkatho yesterday morning. Present  on the occasion were Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, the deputy  ministers and heads of department and officials under the ministry. Those  present received the Five Precepts from Rector Sayadaw of State Pariyatti  Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) Sayadaw Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta  Vannita. Offertories were presented to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha  by the minister and dignitaries. The minister handed. K 95,000 for a day  s  soon of 450 lecturer Sayadaws and members of the Sangha of the Tekkatho and  then offered soon to them.


( 3 ) Classical oldies competition from 16 to 18 June

YANGON, 16 May - Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs will  sponsor a classical oldies competition from 16 to 18 June. A meeting to  coordinate holding of the competition was held in Bogyoke Aung San Hall of  the Social Welfare Department this morning. son Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and  members, advisers, members of the work committee, officials and musicians.  Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs  Chairperson of the Working Committee for Holding the Classical Oldies  Competition Professor Daw May May Yi gave a speech. Assistant Director of  Myanma Radio and Television Daw Tin Tin Mya presented the list of vocalists  who will take part in the competition and the list of songs to be sung to the  accompaniment of A1 Soe Myint Musical Troupe. The participants gave  suggestions. Professor Daw May May Yi gave a concluding speech.

( 4 ) Trainees of Marine Course for New Generation (Sittway Camp) visit  Kyaukpyu

YANGON, 16 May- Trainees of Marine. Course for New Generation (Sittway Camp)  jointly organized by the Union Solidarity and Development Association  Headquarters and the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)'s Office, accompanied by  leader of the excursion group Lt-Comdr. Tin Oo, left Sittway for Kyaukpyu by  boat on 13 May morning. At 1 pm, the excursion group arrived at Kyaukpyu  where the group was welcomed by Comdr. Myint Swe (Navy) and officers.  Then, Comdr. Myint Swe (Navy) explained facts about the camp in Kyaukpyu.  Secretary of Rakhine State USDA U Kyaw Yin presented a commemorative pennant  to the excursion group.  Afterwards, the trainees of the excursion group  observed Nagamaw Dam. The commander explained mat tress related to the dam.  Then, the trainees proceeded to Gangawdaw Pagoda and paid obeisance to the  pagoda. On behalf of the trainees, leader of the excursion group Lt-Comdr.  Tin Oo presented K 7,380 toward the funds of the pagoda. At Kyauktalon  Pagoda, on behalf of the trainees, Lt-Cmdr Shwe Thein donated K 5,000 towards  the pagoda funds.


( 5 ) Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung signs Book of Condolences for  late Mr Keizo Obuchi, former Prime Minister of Japan

YANGON, 16 May-Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung signed the Book of  Condolences at the Embassy of Japan, 100, Natmauk Road, Bahan Township at 1  pm, today in memory of the late Mr Keizo Obuchi, former Prime Minister of  Japan.


( 6 ) Deputy Minister meets Canadian guest

YANGON, 16 May - President of New Millennium Development Ltd of Canada Mr  William Liang paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen  Kyaw Hsan at the latter's office here yesterday evening.  They discussed cooperation in matters of mutual interest. Also present at the  call together with the Deputy Minister were Director-General of the  Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural  Produce Trading U Min Hla Aung and officials.

( 7 ) Prizes presented to winners in Taekwondo Tournament

YANGON, 16 May-A ceremony to present prizes to winners in the Taekwondo  Tournament organized by Myanmar Taekwondo Federation to mark the 25th  Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between the Union of Myanmar  and the Republic of Korea at Aung San Gymnasium this morning, attended by  General Secretary of Myanmar Olympic Committee Director-General Col Thaung  Htaik of Sports and Physical Education Department.  After the tournament, coaches of MTF demonstrated their skills. Then, General  Secretary of MOC Col Thaung Htaik presented prizes to winners in the under-8  age class and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr Chung Jung- gum  presented prizes to winners in the 7-9 age class. Member of Leading Patrons  of MWSF Daw Ni Ni Tin presented prizes to winners in the 10-12 age class and  Vice-President of MTF Director of SPED U Zaw Linn presented prizes to winners  in the girls'  12-17 age class.  Chairman of Tatmadaw Taekwondo Committee Cot Than Myint, Directors of SPED U  Maung Win and U Nyan Tun and officials also presented prizes to winners  Afterwards, the Ambassador presented certificate of honour to  Director-General Col Thaung Htaik an Director U Zaw Linn of SPED.


( 8 ) Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Sayadaws to be honoured on 20 May

YANGON, 16 May-A ceremony to honour 48 Sasana Arzani Sayadaws including two  Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Sayadaws Baddanta Silakkhandhabhivamsa and  Baddanta Vamsapalalankara and one Tipitakadhara Sayadaw Baddanta  Gandhamalalankara will be held at Maha Pasana Cave on Kaba Aye Hill on 20  May. After the ceremony, the provisions offering ceremony will be held.


( 9)Visomgama Ordination Hall designated in Twantay

YANGON, 16 May- A ceremony to designate Visomgama Ordination Hall was held in  conjunction with the re-ordination ceremony at Panditarama Kyaungtaik at the  corner of Kyongyi 7th lane in Shwehsandaw Ward, Twantay Township, on 15 and  16 May.

Present on the occasion were State Ovadacariya Dhammacaariya (BA) Sayadaw  Bhaddanta Nandavamsa of NyaungwaingKyaungtaik, Member of the State Sangha  Maha Nayaka Committee Dwipita-kadhara Agga Maha Pandita Kalaywa Tawya  Pariyatti Sarthintaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Jagarabhivamsa, Member of the State  Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Neyadhamma of Kyongyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik of Twantay, Tipitakadhara  Dhammabhandagarika Agga Maha Pandita Pali Paragu Agga Mahaakyaw Ashin  Sirindabhivamsa (Yaw) Sayadaw of Maha Visuddayon Shwekyin Taikthit,  Administrator of Insein Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita  Bhaddanta Tikolabhivamsa, Chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee  Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kusala of Twantay Shweletkhok Kyaungtaik and 33 members of  the Sangha. After the designation ceremony for the ordination hall, nine  Sayadaws were re-ordained.

( 10 ) Laboratory apparatus donated to DSOH

YANGON, 16 May- A ceremony to donate laboratory apparatus valued at K 3,000  to Defence Services Orthopaedic Hospital (500 bed) by well-wishers of Mascot  Healthcare Company was held in conjunction with blood donation of 70 members  of Mibagonyi Blood Donation Association of Maubin Township at the lab of the  hospital this morning.  Registration Officer Lt-Col Kyaw Win spoke words of thanks and presented  certificates of honour to them.


( 11 ) Myanmar-China (Youth) soccer friendly on 19, 21, 23

YANGON, 16 May-Under the programme of bilateral friendly relations  programme between Myanmar and the People's Republic of China, Myanmar-China  youth soccer matches will be held in Yangon and Bago on 19, 21 and 23 May.


( 12 ) ROK folk dance troupe arrives

YANGON, 16 May-A 25 member folk dance troupe of Republic of Korea arrived here  by air this afternoon to give performances marking the 25th Anniversary of  establishment of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Korea.  The dance troupe was welcomed at the Yangon international Airport by  officials of Fine Arts Department and ROK Embassy. The dance troupe will  present entertainment programmes beginning 6 pm on 16 and 17 May. up

( 13 ) Man gets 10 years' imprisonment for possession of drugs

YANGON, 16 May- A man was given 10 years' imprisonment by Deputy Division  Judge's Court, Yangon Division, on 13 January 1999, for possession of  marijuana weighing 115.09 grams. Seikkan Township Police Force members seized  the marijuana when they were searching the room of Soe Htay, 36, on board the  Aungdagun-5 ship on 17 September 1998. The police booked him under the  Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and sent the case to the  court.


( 14 ) 11 Ngazun Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 16 May - Eleven members resigned from the National League for Democracy  of Ngazun Township, Sagaing Division. Eleven members of Ngazun Township NLD,  Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of  resignation to Ngagun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub  commission and the party concerned on 2 February 2000 as they no longer  wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
