(1) General Maung Aye inspects Zawgyi Reservoir Hydel Power StationYANGON, 6 May - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, together with Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral , Commander-in-Chief (Air) , Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs , ministers, deputy ministers and senior military officers, left here by helicopter for Zawgyi Reservoir Hydel Power Station near Indaw Village, 28 miles north of Yaksauk, Bahtoo Tatmyo, on 5 May.
General Maung Aye and party inspected canals, the concrete embankment and the water supply building at Zawgyi Reservoir Hydel Power Station. Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo and Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut gave supplementary reports.
General Maung Aye then gave instructions.

General Maung Aye and party attended dinner to mark the graduation of the 103rd Intake of the Defense Service (Army) Officers Training School in the military-appointment hall.
The Secretary-2, together with Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung and Bahtoo Station.Commander Col Htin Aung Kyaw met officials of Bahtoo Station.
The Secretary-2 inspected cultivation of regional battalion and met Tatmadaw members and families.
(2) Secretary-l meets Japanese visitors
YANGON, 6 May - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt met President of Aichi Gakuin University of Japan Mr Tadataka Koide MD and wife and Director of Japanese Cleft Palate Foundation of Faculty of Medicine, Lecturer of University of Tokyo of the Second Department Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery School of Dentistry, Professor of Aichi-Gakuin University Mr Nagato Natsume at the guest house of the Ministry of Defence at 5 pm today.

(3) Secretary-l attends opening of Myanmar Industrial Port
YANGON, 6 May - A ceremony to open Myanmar Industrial Port jointly run by Myanma Ceramics Industries under the Ministry of Industry-1 and Myanma Annawa Swanarshinmya Group, was held at the port on Strand Road in Ahlon Town ship this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
The Secretary-l formally unveiled the signboard of the port. Then, the Secretary-1 unveiled the stone plaque of the port.
The Secretary-1 and party performed the ritual of golden and silver showers to mark the successful opening of the port.
Later, they toured the port.
(4) Public Works and Asia World Co Ltd sign agreement to construct Kyukok-Muse-Nanhkam road
YANGON, 6 May - Public Works of Ministry of Construction and Asia World Co Ltd signed an agreement to construct Kyukok-Muse- Nanhkam road at Public Works (Head Office) on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this morning.
Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun made a speech on the occasion. Then, Managing Director of Public Works U Nay Soe Naing and Managing Director of Asia World Co Ltd U Tun Myint Naing signed the agreement and exchanged it.
Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented permits of Myanmar Investment Commission and Ministry of Construction to U Tun Myint Naing.
(5) Myanmar and Japanese eye specialists perform operations
YANGON, 6 May - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, together with directors-general and officials of departments under the Ministry of Health, observed an eye operation for removing cataracts jointly performed by Myanmar and Japanese eye specialists with the use of Phaco Emulsifi-Cation Method at Eye Hospital on Natmauk Street this morning.
The minister gave instructions and inspected operation theatres at the hospital.
The minister urged Myanmar eye specialists to use this method when they conduct a field tour.
The Japanese eye specialists, together with Myanmar eye specialists, performed eye operations on 17 patients in Yangon for the fourth time and on 11 patients in Mandalay for the first time with the use of this method.

(6) Minister inspects Cultural Museum and Library in Pathein
YANGON, 6 May - Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Director-General of Department of Archaeology U Nyunt Han and officials inspected Cultural Museum and Library of Department of Cultural Institute in Pathein on 5 May.
The minister and party met staff.
The minister inspected mosaic yoke of Konbaung period and other ancient cultural objects and the library.
(7) 3rd Mohinga Competition begins
YANGON, 6 May - Third Mohinga Competition organized by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism began at the Yadana Restaurant in the People's Park this morning.
The opening ceremony of the competition was attended by Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, heads of department and officials under the ministry, the Chairman of Myanmar Chiefs Association and executives, writer Daw Yin Yin (Saw Mon Nyin) and guests .
Afterward, the minister and officials inspected the competition which will continue tomorrow.
(8) State Peace and Development Council donates provisions to Kyakhatwaing Sarthintaik in Bago
YANGON, 6 May - The State Peace and Development Council donated provisions to Kyakhatwaing Sarthintaik in Bago this morning in order to ensure convenience of members of the Sangha of the Sarthintaik in studying Pariyatti literature to promote and propagate the Sasana of Lord Buddha.
On the occasion, Commander Maj-Gen Tin Aye supplicated on religious matters to the Sayadaws.
Kyakhatwaing Sarthintaik in Bago is the place where Pariyatti literature is being disseminated to members of the Sangha from various parts of the country, and the State Peace and Development Council donated 100 bags of rice to the Sarthintaik so that members of the Sangha discharging religious duties to promote and propagate the Sasana there will be convenient.
Afterwards, Maj-Gen Tin Aye, Minister U Aung Khin and Deputy Minister U Soe Nyunt presented offertories to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.

(9) 54th Anniversary Fire Services Day observed
YANGON, 6 May - The 54th Anniversary Fire Services Day was observed at Bahtoo Sports Ground in Chanayethazan Township on 5 May.
Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint gave a speech and watched fire fighting and rescue skills demonstrated by members of Fire Brigade.
The Commander presented K 145,000 for uniforms for 100 members of Division Auxiliary Fire Brigade to the Mandalay Division FSD Deputy Director.
Then, well-wishers donated K 265,000. The Commander accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to them.
They then inspected upgrading the road near Kyaukchaw Village and upgrading works at Mandalay- PyinOoLwin Road between mile post Nos 16th and 35th mile posts and road expansion tasks.
(10) Commander inspects development of Bhamo, Mansi Townships
YANGON, 6 May - Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj- Gen Kyaw Win, accompanied by Col Kyaw Oo Lwin of Bhamo Station, Secretary of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myint Thein and officials, inspected Basic Education High School in Mansi on 30 April morning.
The Commander looked into the requirements.
The Commander and party then inspected construction of Shwewali Wood-based Factory, Hande power sub-station of Kyaukpahtoo-Shwegu-Bhamo and renovation of Bhamo airport.
Officials conducted the commander round the work site.
The Commander attended to their needs.
(11) CSSTB Chairman leaves for Australia
YANGON, 6 May - Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr Than Nyunt left here by air this afternoon to attend the Conference on Law, Governance and Public Sector Reform in the ASEAN Region at Canberra University in Australia on 8 and 9 May.

(12) Police Chiefs of ASEAN nations arrive
YANGON, 6 May - Police Chief of Brunei Darussalam Dato Paduk Seri Hj Yaakub bin Pehin Orang Kaya Maharaja Diraja Dato Paduka Hj Zainal and party, Police Chief of Singapore Mr Khoo Boon Hui and party and Police Col Pomprasert Ganjanarintr of Thailand and Mr Stephen Lo of INTERPOL arrived here
by air today to attend the 20th ASEAN Chiefs of Police Conference here.
(13) PRC Minister concludes visit
YANGON, 6 May - Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Mr Shi Guangsheng of the People's Republic of China and party left here by air this morning after attending the Meeting of the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) with the Economic Ministers from the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea on East Asia Cooperation.
They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Ambassador of the PRC Mr Liang Dong and officials and departmental heads.

(14) 10 Nawnghkio NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 6 May - Ten members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Nawnghkio Township, Shan State.
Ten members of Nawnghkio Township NLD, Shan State, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Nawnghkio Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 9 April 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
