(1) Multimedia teaching centres opened at BEHSs in Thongwa TownshipYANGON, 23 April-Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, the ministers, the deputy ministers, departmental officials, left here this morning for Thongwa Township by helicopter and arrived there at 8.15 am.
Opening ceremonies of Multimedia teaching centres of No 1 and No 2 Basic Education High Schools were held at the respective schools , Tongwa this morning, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
A ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centres of No 2 Basic Education High School was held at the school in Thongwa. Headmistress Daw Tin Mya and Chairman of the School Board of Trustees Dr Myint Thein formally opened the centre. The Secretary-1 and party inspected the study room, computerized media section, demonstrative media section, audio visual teaching system, domestic science room, school health showroom, drawing room and music room and watched skill demonstration of the students. Students presented handicrafts to the Secretary-l. The Secretary-1 and party observed the prayer hall of the school.
The Secretary-l and party went to No I Basic Education High School. A ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of No I Basic Education High School was held at the school in Thongwa. Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the stone plaque of the centre.
Students presented fruits and handicrafts to the Secretary- 1 . The Secretary-1 and party also observed the prayer hall of the school. On behalf of the No 1 and No 2 school boards of trustees, Chairman of the school boards of trustees of No 1 Basic Education High School U Htwe reported on efforts for opening of two multimedia teaching centres worth K 3.5 million each.
Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt presented video and cassette tapes as teaching aid to Headmaster U Ko Gyi of No 1 Basic Education High School and Daw Tin Mya of No 2 Basic Education High School.
Minister for Education U Than Aung presented video cassette player and cassette to Headmaster U Ko Gyi of No 1 Basic Education High School and Daw Tin Mya of No 2 Basic Education High School. The Secretary-1 Commander Maj- Khin Maung Than , Minister U Than Aung and Maj- Gen Sein Htwa and Deputy Minister Brig- Thura Myint accept the donations and presented certificates of honour to the
donors.After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party, together with member of the school boards of Trustees and the parent-teacher associations of No1 and No 2 Basic High Schools and the school heads, teachers, students and well-wishers, had photographs taken. The Secretary-1 also met with members of Tongwa and Khayan Township peace and Development Councils officials and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association in the township in the hall.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged the people to participate and cooperate in striving for the successful implementation of projects of the Government and for regional development and national solidarity.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party went to the People's Hospital in Thongwa, where they were welcomed by Head of District Health Department Dr Kyaw Oo, the acting medical superintendent and medical staff and Red Cross members.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the hospital. The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here in the afternoon.

(2) Minister inspects paddy plantations of YCDC, Myanma Rice Research Institute
YANGON, 23 April- Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tun and general managers of MAS and members of Yangon Division Agriculture Coordination Committee, this morning arrived at the camp of Kya in Agricultural Project in Taikkyi Township being undertaken by Yangon City Development Committee.
The minister inspected hybrid and quality paddy strains and canals. At Myodaw Farm and the Recreation Centre, the minister heard reports on cultivation of Uto and Kya-in plantations, experience of monsoon and summer paddy cultivation and facility of the recreation centre by Head of Administration Department U Myint Swe. At Myanma Rice Research Institute in Hmawby, officials reported on matters related to their respective sectors. The minister then inspected paddy plantations of the Institute.
In the afternoon, the minister attended the pre-coordination meeting at the hall of Water Resources Utilization Department in Kanbe and gave instructions on work.
(3) Minister inspects integrated farms in Shwepyitha
YANGON, 23 April-Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing inspected integrated farms of Yangon West and North District General Administration Departments on 21 April.
First, the minister and party inspected plantations on five-acre land in Shwepyitha and two-acre land by Yangon West District Latha Townships. Then, the minister and party proceeded to the plantation of Yangon North District General Administration Department and inspected ten acre land in Shwepyitha Industrial Zone and the "Pyitha"" shop of Prisons Department. The minister gave necessary instructions and left their in the evening.
(4) Minister meets township cooperative staff officers in Monywa
YANGON, 23 April-Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San met with staff officers of Township Cooperative Department and executives of agriculture producers cooperative societies of Sagaing, Monywa, Myinmu, Myaung, ChaungU, Budalin, Yinmabin, Pale, Salingyi and Ayadaw in the meeting hall of Thiha General Economic Cooperative Syndicate in Monywa, Sagaing Division yesterday morning.
The minister attended to their requirements and gave instructions on purchase and export of crops, regular border trade, cooperation of the cooperative sector with the Government and measures for development of cooperative societies.

(5) Mayor inspects construction of Maha Bandoola Bridge and Shukhintha Amusement Park
YANGON, 23 April- Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, accompanied by Secretary Col Myint Aung and officials, inspected construction of Yamonna six-lane approach road of Maha Bandoola Bridge in Dawbon Township and Thakayta Shukhintha Amusement Park this morning. The mayor and gave instructions on completion of paving of road in time. The mayor gave
instruction necessary and fulfilled their needs. He also inspected Asia Point Bowling Club.
(6) Commander inspects construction of Yangon Sittway Road
YANGON, 23 April- Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council, Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe accompanied by officials arrived at Daigyi camp, An on 22 April. First, Project Superintending Engineer U Kyaw Tin reported on paving along the An-Sittway
Road, construction of Taungup-Maei-Tettoung An-Maei-Madekyaw Road, preparation for 35 bridges to be built. Then the commander proceeded to the construction site of Kanni bridge in Minbya Township. The commander went round the construction site of the bridge.
(7) Appointment of Ambassador of Croatia agreed on
YANGON, 24 April-The Government of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of HE Mr Damir Perincic as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to the Union of Myanmar.
(8) Opening ceremony of new main elevator held at YGH
YANGON, 23 April-A ceremony to donate a new main elevator to Yangon General Hospital was held at the hospital at 8 am today. Then, Minister U Khin Maung Thein handed over documents related to the elevator to Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein.
Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein presented certificates of honour to Minister U Khin Maung Thein and officials of Asia Wealth Bank, Yoma Bank, Kanbawza Bank, Myanmar May Flower Bank and Tun Foundation Bank. Later, Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein spoke words thanks. Afterwards, a ceremony to open the elevator was held at the hospital. Ministers U Khin Maung Thein and Maj-Gen Ket Sein formally opened the elevator. The elevator manufactured by LG Co of South Korea is a Stretcher

(9) Commander looks into development tasks in Mandalay
YANGON, 23 April- A ceremony to open the new office of Mandalay Division All Bus Lines Control Committee (Local/Highway) was held at the office on 63rd Street between 33rd and 34th Streets in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Division on 21 April. First, Chairman of Mandalay Division All Bus Lines Control Committee (Local) U Tin Oo reported on construction of the building.
Then, the Commander and party proceeded to construction site of Health Planning Department (Upper Myanmar) in Chanayethazan Township. The Commander inspected progress of construction and gave necessary instructions to the officials. He also inspected the Nadi Canal beside the building. Afterwards, the Commander and party attended the ceremony to honour victorious athletes who took part in the Inter-State/Division sports tournament in 1999 at the National Theatre At the ceremony, 296 athletes were presented K 8,000 each.
(10) Inspects tax-free market, wetland reclamation project in Ayeyawady Division
YANGON, 23 April- Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, accompanied by Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tint Swe and officials, the tax-free market near Thebon Jetty on Strand Road in Ward 2, Pathein Township, on 21 April morning.
Similar tax-free markets were opened in Hinthada, Myaungmya, Maubin and Pyapon Townships on 20 April. In the afternoon, the Commander and party arrived at the wetland reclamation project in Pantanaw Township. Afterwards, the Commander went to Shwe Hintha Tawya Kyaungtaik and Maha Visutarama Taikthit (Pali Tekkatho) Kyaungtaik in Nyaungdon Township. He paid homage to the Sayadaws,
donated provisions and supplicated on religious affairs.TOP
(11) Regional development in Taninthayi Division
YANGON, 23 April- Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, accompanied by officials concerned, inspected reconstruction of Pathaung Bridge, construction of Banlamuk Bridge, construction of 1,400 feet long Taninthayi River Bridge and paving Myeik-Taninthayi Road on 19 April.
Then, the commander and party inspected bridges to be constructed, progress of work for construction of the bridges, land reclamation, work for monsoon paddy cultivation, tarring of Htaungparu-Mandaing and Laynya-Bokepyin Roads and oil palm cultivation of Shwekanbawza Co and met those in charge of and fulfilled their needs.
On 20 April, the commander met with departmental officials at Bokepyin Town Hall and left instructions on regional development, warding off corruption and timely completion of the projects.
(12) Coordination meeting of MHF held
YANGON, 23 April- Myanmar Hockey Federation held a coordination meeting of EC members at the meeting hall of Theinbyu Hockey Pitch at 4 pm today, attended by President of MHF commander of No 4 Military Region Commandant Col Myo Myint and EC members.
After the meeting, the cash donation ceremony was held. President of MHF Col Myo Myint and accepted the donations. Year 2000 MHF President's Trophy Hockey Tournament will be held at Theinbyu Hockey Pitch starting on 3 May evening.

(13) 41 Thegon NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 23 April-Forty-one members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Thegon Township, Bago Division.
Forty-one members of Thegon Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Thegon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 17 January 2000 as they no longer wished to participate party politics of NLD.
