(1) Over K 27.63 million donated for construction of Thatbyinnyu Pagoda

YANGON, 22 April-The 11th cash donation for construction of Thatbyimyu Pagoda was held at the  construction site for the pagoda in Ward S in Mayangon Town ship this morning, attended by  Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Secretary of Committee for construction of Thatbyinnyu Pagoda Deputy Minister for Agriculture and  Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung reported on progress of work, donations and finance. The Secretary-1  gave instructions. The Secretary-1 and Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the donors. The Secretary-1 and party then inspected the  construction site.


(2) All Myanmar Photo Exhibition opens to mark 50th Anniversary of MPS

YANGON, 22 April- A ceremony to open All Myanmar Photo Exhibition in commemoration of the 50th  Anniversary of Myanmar Photographic Society was held at the Tatmadaw Convention Centre this  morning with Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt in  attendance.

Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, U Khin Lay Maung, one of the founding members of MPS,  and U Thiha Thein Nyan, Chairman of MPS, formally opened the exhibition. They also visited booths of  cameras and accessories and photo frames. The exhibition will be open from 9 am to 5 pm till 26 April.  Admission is free.


(3) Football players of Myanmar selected and youth teams honoured

YANGON, 22 April-A ceremony to honour football players of Myanmar selected football team and  youth team who participated in Asian Cup qualifying match in South Korea and qualifying match for  Under-19 Asian Championship in the People's Republic of China was held at the Mya Yeik Nyo Royal  Hotel this evening, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar National Olympic Council Secretary-1 of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary-1 said dinner was hosted in honour  of Myanmar selected football  team and Myanmar youth football team. The teams were to be honoured because they had made  progress at the international level, and the occasion was aimed at uplifting spiritual development and  enabling the two teams to keep striving for success.

The Secretary-1 presented K100000 each to 25 persons each from Myanmar selected and youth teams.  Director- General of Department of Sports and physical Education Col  Thaung Htaik and Myanmar selected youth football team Lt-Col Maung Ko reported on experience of  Asia Cup qualifying match and group 6 qualifying match for the 32nd Under 19 Asian Championship  held South Korea and RPC . The Secretary-1 then hosted dinner in honour of the football players.

(4) Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspects sea prawn and fish farming

YANGON, 22 April -Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected  the breeding of sea prawns and places suitable for sea prawn breeding in Kyauktan and Kungyangon  Townships and the breeding of fish at Yangon Pauk Kyaikkathe region in Twantay Township today.

The Secretary-2, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of  Yangon Division Peace Development Council, officials and entrepreneurs, went to the sea prawn  breeding farm of Shwe Eya Company near Meepya Village in Kyauktan Township by helicopter.

The official of Shwe Eya Company reported on the digging of prawn breeding ponds of 293 square feet  and the breeding of about 500,000 spawns in two ponds. Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than  reported on condition of about 7,000 acre land for sea prawn breeding and assistance to be provided for  investors.

Then, the Secretary-2 and party inspected sea prawn breeding and the digging of prawn breeding  ponds. Then, the Secretary-2 and party proceeded to Thandesu Village in Kyauktan Township by  helicopter.

In meeting with township departmental officials and villagers in the briefing hall of Thandesu Village,  the Secretary-2 said that Kyauktan Township is suitable for livestock breeding, and the purpose of his  tour of the region is to inspect sea prawn breeding and places suitable for the breeding of Prawns.

Head of Township Fisheries Department U Juliet Kyaw reported on matters pertaining to successful sea  prawn breeding being undertaken by entrepreneurs in the township, and Dr Htay Myint on the breeding  of sea prawns with the use of additional feedstuff.

After that, the Secretary-2 and party went to Wetkaik Village in Kungyangon Township by helicopter at  10.30 am. The Secretary-2 and party inspected the sea prawn breeding farm of Winner Brother  International Ltd at Wetkaik Village.

Director of Winner Brother International Ltd U Thet Aung reported on condition of sea prawn breeding  in Wetkaik Village.

Winner Brother International Ltd is undertaking sea prawn breeding work in 25 ponds including 20 two  acre ponds on 90.96 acre land in Wetkaik Village, Kungyangon Township, and over 9.41 million spawns  have been bred in the ponds since 25-3-99. Winner Brother International Ltd bred 300,000 spawns of  each in five ponds on 23-3-98, and over 17 metric tons of sea prawns have been exported, and it has
achieved success in breeding sea prawns.

The entrepreneurs engaged in breeding sea prawns in Kungyangon Township, reported on matters  related to sea prawn breeding and production of prawn feedstuff. The Secretary-2 and party went to  Yangon Pauk-Kyaik-thale region in Twantay Township where the production division of Yangon City  Development Committee is undertaking fish breeding work.

The Secretary-2 gave instructions on matters related to welfare work for employees of YCDC, stability of  commodity prices and employment opportunities for local people. Yangon City Development Committee  has been undertaking fish breeding work on the land of about 600 acres at wetlands of Kyaik-thale  Village-tract in Twantay Township since 1 January 1999, and has cultivated monsoon paddy on about  100 acres and summer paddy on about 50 areas.  The Secretary-2 and party inspected the fish breeding  work of YCDC.

(5) RTAD opens Grade l Special Accountancy Course

YANGON, 22 April- Grade-l Special Accountancy Course No 179 sponsored by Road Transport  Administration Department, Ministry of Rail Transportation, was opened at the RTAD Head Office this  morning.

Brig-Gen Tin Aye made a speech on the occasion, saying at a time when the leaders of the nation are  giving guidance on tasks for all-round development, Auditor-General's Office is endeavouring for  development of human resources by conducting training courses. The aim of conducting training  courses is courses to build infrastructures by training service personnel, to make all government  departments keep correct accounts, and to produce service personnel who possess good discipline and  morals.

Minister U Pan Aung also spoke of the importance of conducting training courses for development of  human resources, and said efficiency of service personnel will improve due to training courses. Fifty  trainees are attending the course which lasts for two and a half months.
  


(6) USDA CEC Member tours Danubyu Pantanaw townships

YANGON, 22 April- Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and  Development Association Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun, accompanied by  officials, arrived at Danubyu, Ayeyawady Division yesterday.

The minister gave instructions on renovation of religious buildings there. Afterwards, he went to  Danubyu Basic Education High School where the English proficiency course is being conducted by  USDA. The minister inspected classrooms and the training of a band troupe there. The minister also  paid homage to Kyaikkhaneint on Pagoda and renovation works there He inspected the villages and  instructed officials to keep the area pleasant.

(7) Commander inspects tax-free markets in Mawlamyine

YANGON, 22 April- Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East  Command Maj-Gen Myint Aung, accompanied by Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Myo Hla and officials.  inspected Station Tax-free Market near Zwe Yan Aung Cinema in Mawlamyine Station on 19 April. The  Commander and party proceed to Tax-free Market in Maungngan Ward in Mawlamyine. He looked into  shopping and selling conditions of the market and gave necessary instructions to officials.


(8) Auditor-General inspects auditor offices in Mon State

YANGON, 22 April-Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, accompanied by Deputy Director-General U  Kyin Hoon of the Auditor-General's Office and officials, arrived at Bilin on 18 April and met employees  of Township Auditor's Office.

 In the afternoon, the Auditor-General and party went to Thaton District Auditor's Office and met  personnel of Thaton Township Auditor's Office. On 19 April, the Auditor-General and party met service  personnel of Thanbyuzayet, Mudon and Kyaikmaraw Township Auditor Offices and inspected  Kyaikmarraw and Thanbyuzayet Township Offices. On 20 April, he met personnel of Chaunzon
Township Auditors' Offices.  On 21 April, the Auditor- General also met employees of Paung and  Kyaikto Township Offices.


(9) Merits to be shared for donation of new building in Lumbini Park

YANGON 22 April-The Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold a ceremony to share merits for donation  of a newly built two-storey building in the precinct of Lokamanicula Pagoda in Lumbini Park, Nepal, on  28 April. The donors and those wishing to attend the ceremony are to contact Mahabo Pilgrim Group by  dialling 211703, 227322 or 228077 for departure for Nepal via Bangkok on 26 April.

(10) PRC goodwill delegation visits Myodaw Farm and Recreation Centre in Taikkyi

YANGON, 22 April-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay inspected  construction of Kyontahmyin Sluice Gate and Agricultural Research Centre in Taikkyi Township  yesterday evening and gave necessary instructions.

Jiangsu Province People's Government Vice-President Mr Hu Xu Jian and party of the People's Republic  of China, currently here at the invitation of Mayor U Ko Lay arrived at Myodaw Farm and Recreation  Centre in Taikkyi this morning

 They also inspected construction of Club House and Golf Course in Uto Camp. Member of YCDC Col  Thaung Wai explained cultivation and breeding tasks being carried out by YCDC and replied to the  queries.


(11) Myanmar Universal Bank launches lucky-draw programme

YANGON, 22 April-A ceremony to launch a lucky draw programme for regular customers, staff of the  bank and members of supervisory committee of the branches was held at International Business Centre  at 8 am today. Prizes were awarded as Myanmar New Year presents.

 There were 166 prizes including TV sets, video cassette players, refrigerators and washing machines in  the programme. Myanmar Universal Bank Ltd holds lucky-draw programme every six months in  appreciation of services rendered and patronage.


(12) Yangon bustling with life

YANGON, 22 April- Devotees and monks thronged such pagodas as the Shwedagon, Sule, Botahtaung  Kyaikdayup today. They performed meritorious deeds such as paying obeisance, keeping Sabbath,  counting rosary, practising meditation, offering water, flowers and scented sticks and making donations.  Tourists also visited the pagodas. Similarly, such parks and recreation centres as Happy World and
Kandaw Mingala were crowded with people enjoying their holidays individually or in groups. Department stores, plazas, markets and mini-markets were crowded with shoppers while Yangon  downtown was bustled with life.

(13) New Generation Table-Tennis Training Course on 1 May

YANGON, 22 April-With the aim of raising the standard of Myanma table-tennis and turning out  outstanding table-tennis players, the New Generation Table-Tennis Training Course will be opened at  No 10 Aungmingala Street in Kyimyindine Township on 1 May morning.

Those wishing to attend the course may enlist at the venue near Hsinmaleik Market. Myanmar selected  Table-Tennis player Tin Oo, who has taken part in Asia-Africa table-tennis tourney and Asia, Africa,  Latin America (Beijing) Table-Tennis Tournament, will be instructor of the course.


(14) 9 Mindon NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 22 April-Nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mindon  Township, Magway Division. Nine members of Mindon Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own  accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mindon Township Multiparty Democracy General  Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 25 January 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
