(1) Prospects bright to engage prawn breeding in Rakhine State and Yangon, Ayeyawady and Thaninthayi DivisionsYANGON, 19 April - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo met with fishery entrepreneurs at Fisheries Department this afternoon, seeking means to extend prawn farming.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo said the government has achieved success to a certain degree in rendering assistance from all sectors in enabling national enterpreneurs to become farm entrepreneurs and industrialists.
Myanmar has favourable soil and climate for success of agriculture and livestock and fish breeding. Together with the Head of State, the Secretary-2 had toured Rakhine State recently. Yangon-Kyaukphyu Highway is under construction and prospects are bright for prawn breeding along the highway. As in Rakhine State, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi Divisions to have favourable conditions to set up prawn farms.
Secretary-2 Lt- Gen Tin Oo gave suggestions, speaking of the need to strive for ensuring better access to projected prawn breeding areas. Assistance will be provided in granting permits, distributing fingerlings and feedstuff and disseminating know-how.
(2) Minister for Commerce receives Indian visitors
YANGON, 19 April-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone received Professor of Central Policy Research Department of New Delhi, India, Mr Boobligeorge Verohese and party at his office at l pm today.
Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan and officials.
(3) Appointment of Japanese Ambassador agreed on
YANGON, 20 April-The Government of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of Mr Shigeru Tsumori as Ambassador Extraordinary,and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Union of Myanmar in succession to His Excellency Mr Kazuo Asakai.

(4) Minister for Industry-1 receives Chinese visitors
YANGON, 19 April-Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received General Manager Mr Yang Yu Yue of Zhejiang Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation (ZMEC) and China New Building Materials Industry Hangzhou Design and Research Institute (CNHDI) and party at his office at 3:30 pm today.
(5) Commander inspects Chaungtha and Ngwehsaung beaches
YANGON, 19 April- Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, accompanied by officials, inspected repair of Danon Creek Bridge on Pathein-Shwemyintin-Paya Road and Shwemyintin Z-craft Jetty on the bank of Ngawun River on 18 April.
Later, the commander inspected building of Yaythoegyi Bridge on Pathein-Ngwehsaung Road and met Tatmadawmen who are paving the road. At the Ngwehsaung Beach Hotel in the evening, he met with officials and entrepreneurs, and locals and attended to their needs.
(6) Minister inspects Agricultural Development and Training Centre
YANGON, 19 April-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by officials, arrived at Agricultural Development and Training Centre of Myanma Agriculture Service in Zayatkwin, Hlegu Township, this afternoon. The minister later inspected research works on paddy strains.Managing Director of MAS U Tun Than and general managers and gave instructions on future tasks.

(7) Minister visits Htaukkyant Day Nursery
YANGON, 19 April - Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj Gen Sein Htwa together with Director-General of Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing arrived at Htaukkyant Day Nursery this afternoon. The minister and party inspected hostels, messing hall, training centre and plantations. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa inspected construction of a new hostel by Naga Hlainggu Kalaywatawya Sayadaw. The minister gave instructions to officials.
(8) National football team recounts experience
YANGON, 19 April- Myanmar national football team which took part in Group 6 qualifying matches for Asian Cup finals in Seoul, Republic of Korea, recounted experience at the National Indoor Stadium 1 this afternoon.
Minister for Sports Brig- Gen Thura Aye Myint spoke on the occasion, giving instruction on the use of their experience in future tournaments. Team leader Col Thaung Htaik, coaches and footballers report on experiences and weakness and strengths.
(9) 3rd Monhinga Festival and Competition on 6-7 May
YANGON, 19 April-The Third Myanmar Monhinga Festival and competition sponsored by Ministry of Hotels and Tourism will be held from 6 to 7 May.

(10) Sri Lankan Sayadaw presents gifts to Religious Affairs Ministry
YANGON, 19 April-Ven. Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Weldeniye Medhalankara, Head of Ramana Gana of Sri Lanka, donated three Buddha images, two traditional oil-lamp-offering stands and two paintings portraying the sun and the moon to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka Mr Ubhayasekara Mapa, on behalf of the Sayadaw, presented the donations to Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin this afternoon at the ministry.
Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin presented the photo of the Sayadaw accepting the religious title and the video tape on the religious titles conferring ceremony to the minister.
(11) Traditional Art and Culture of ASEAN Photo Exhibition to be held
YANGON, 19 April-The Prize winning photos, the entry photos and documentary photos exhibition in commemoration of Golden Jubilee Photo Exhibition of Myanmar Photographic Society will be held at Tatmadaw Convention Centre on U Wisara Road from 22 to 26 April.
(12) Tax-free market and Yebaw markets in Taunggyi
YANGON, 19 April-Chairman of Shan Sate Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo, accompanied by departmental officials, inspected tax-free market of vegetables, meat and fish opened in Taunggyi Township at 7 am on April 17. Then, the Commander proceeded to Yebaw markets of regional battalion and Eastern Command and gave necessary instructions of officials. Vegetables, meat, fish, grocery and fruits can be bought cheaply at the market which was opened from 10 April. .

(13) Ceremony to pay respects to elders held in Rakhine State
YANGON, 19 April-A ceremony to pay respects to elders in accord with Rakhine traditions for 36th time organized by Rakhine State Peace and Development Council was held at the U Ottama Hall in Sittway Township on 16 April morning.
The ceremony was opened by beating the Rakhine traditional auspicious drum at 9 am. Then member of leading committee U Maung Hla Kyaw recited one stanza poem accompanied by Saidra drum troupe. Afterwards the leading committee dance troupe, accompanied by Saidra troupe presented upward and downward lotus and peaceful Rakhine with Multistar group dances. Parittas reciting ceremonies organized by Rakhine State peace and Development Council were held at the respective places in the evening.
(14) Prizes presented to yein troupes in Myitkyina
YANGON, 19 April-A Prize distribution ceremony for yein troupes of Kachin State Myanma Traditional Thingyan Festival was held in Myitkyina on 15 April. Yein troupes and Mingala orchestra entertained the guests. The commander and officials presented prizes to winning yein troupes .
(15) Boat race to mark Thingyan Festival, Myanmar New Year held in Shan State
YANGON, 19 April- In commemoration of Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival and Myanma,r New Year, a boat race took place on Naungton Lake in Kengtung, eastern Shan State, on 16 April morning. presentation ceremony of the boat race was held. The commander and officials presented prizes to winning rowing teams. A total of 17 teams took part in the race. On 17 April, thams took psrt in the race.

(16) 34 members of armed groups exchange arms for peace
YANGON, 19 April-The State Peace and Development Council, upholding Our Three Main National Causes, is building national reconsolidation with added momentum for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation with genuine goodwill.
Armed groups, realizing the correct deeds and genuine goodwill of the State and the Tatmadaw v and the fact that their destructive acts for years were not by any means benefit the nation and the people and their regions lagged behind in development, have exchanged arms for peace individually or in groups from 1 to 31 March 2000.
Quartermaster-General Wa Hein of No 1 Division of KNU, Po Khaw of Mepali Village of No 1 Brigade and office staff Saw Mike Su (a) Aye Than, bringing in two mines, one home-made anti-tank mine, one detonator and three yards of fuse and deputy section leader Zaw Zaw (a) Zaw Moe Oo of ABSDF exchanged arms for peace in South-East Command area.
Private Saw Kyaw Htwe of No 2 Brigade of KNU in Southern Command area; warrant officer II Han Kyone of CNA, cpl Ngon Naw, Hsan Man and private Daw Kyon Tan (a) Daw Kyon, bringing in one M-16, one AK-47, eight magazines and 129 rounds of ammunition and sergeant Hin Paung and wife Kha Shi of NNC armed group bringing in one revolver and 67 rounds of ammunition in North-West Command area; Sai Maung of SURA armed group in Eastern Command; corporal Sai Saing Han and private Lawsha of SURA armed group bringing in one M-22, one magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition and private Kham Kyauk of MTA remnant group in Triangle Region Command area; platoon commander Chit Win and wife Naw Ak War and family of No 12 battalion of KNU bringing in one .38 revolver and two rounds of ammunition, Phado Saw Po Htoo of Pulaw management board, sergeant Sawla Po Nyor and wife Naw Phaw Sa, privates Saw Gay Hmu, Saw Ro Ro and wife Naw Lat Htoo of No 4 Brigade bringing in one AK-47, one .22 gun, one magazine and 24 rounds of ammunition and two grenades, sergeant Myint Thaung of Battalion 11 and cadre Wa Khwet with one Winchester, one AK-47, two grenades, one magazine and nine rounds of.ammuntion exchanged arms for peace in Coastal Region Command area.
Officials of respective Tatmadaw camps welcomed 34 persons who exchanged arms for peace and provided assistance to them. There remain other members of armed groups who will follow suit.
(17) 14 Khaunglanfu NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 19 April-Fourteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Khaunglanfu Township, Kachin State.
Fourteen members of Khaunglanfu Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Khaunglanfu Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 9 February 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
