(1) Senior General Than Shwe attends dinner to mark graduation of No 41st and Intakes of DSAYANGON 8 April- Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Service Senior General Than Shwe inspect Tatmadaw training schools in PyinOoLwin at 10 am yesterday.
Commandants of the respective Tatmadaw training schools reported on staff, adjutant and quartermaster affairs. The Senior General gave necessary guidance.
In the evening, the Senior General Than Shwe together with Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Tin Oo, Secretary -3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, ministers and senior military officers, attended dinner marking the graduation of No 41st Intake and No 42nd Intake of DSA at Defence Services Academy.
(2) Courses recognized by International Maritime Organization being conducted in Myanmar mercantile Marine Cadet Training Course No CD/27 concludes
YANGON, 8 April- The conclusion of Mercantile Marine Cadet Training Course No CD/27 and opening of Mercantile Marine Cadet Training Course No CD/28 were held at the Institute of Marine Technology on Bayintnaung Road in Kamayut Township this morning, with an address by Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt.
The parade company marched past Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe.The minister then inspected the graduating company and presented prize to outstanding cadets.
After the ceremony the Secretary-1 met the cadets. He said at a time when the Government is placing emphasis on emergence of human resources, on which the State can rely to be able to keep abreast of other nations and to stand as a sovereign nation, the successful conducting of mercantile marine courses amounts to the fulfilling of a requirement of the State as well as an infusion of new blood for the development of the state.
The secretary-1 also called on them to discharge their duties actively and conscientiously, to conduct themselves in a good way and to enhance the dignity of the nation and the people.
He spoke of the need for them to try to acquire knowledge and promote their efficiency. The Secretary-1 warned them subversive acts of a destructive group, the accusation that there is forced Labour and attempts to cause difficulties to those who are making a living with the use of marine technology.
The Secretary-1 urge them to make efforts for the transferring of technology between their senior mercantile officers and junior mercantile officers, and for the advancement of marine technology.
Hr also called on trainees to follow the example of brother mercantile officers and strive to become efficient mercantile officers.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urge them to strive to become outstanding and efficient mercantile officers who are well- qualified and bring honour to the nation and the people and to work for the development of the national economy and the improvement of living conditions the interests of the nation.
Then, Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe present a give to the Secretary-1.
(3) Secretary-1 inspects Uto-Kya-inn Region Agriculture Project
YANGON, 9 April -Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt went to Uto-Kya-inn Region Agriculture Project being implemented by Yangon City Development Committee in Taikkyi Township this morning.
First, the Secretary-1 inspected the building of Kyontahmyin Creek Sluice Gate and heard reports on the project presented by the mayor and officials.
The secretary-1 gave instructions on the work. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 inspected the building of roads in the project area for development of the region, reclamation of lands, which have been put under summer paddy, and the building of embankments.
Later, the Secretary-1 inspected the milling of right at the 25-ton rice mill of YCDC on Uto- Kya-innkonhtoke Road and production. The Secretary-1 then went to the center of Uto Plantation where he inspected research work on output of special high-yield paddy.
After hearing the report, the Secretary-1 gave instruction on extension of cultivation of quality paddy, extension of farm lands, maintenance work for durability of the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation in building embankments.
Later, the Secretary-1 inspected Innsu Lake repaired for storage of water for water supply to Uto Agricultural Project and cultivation of summer paddy at Uto Plantation.
(4) Minister inspects Tanlyin Glass Factory
YANGON, 9 April - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, accompained by officials, inspected Thanlyin Glass Factory this morning.
He gave instruction on repair of machines at the factory. After inspecting production of bottles for Fantasy soft drink, he met the factory manager and officials in the meeting room of the factory.
The factory manager reported on the building of a new glass factory. The minister then inspected the site designate for construction of a 200-ton glass factory. In the evening, the minister inspected the paper packaging factory of General and Maintenance Industries in Alwanhsut Village, Thanlyin Township.
(5) Ministry inspects storage of rice, paddy in Thayawady, Minhla, Letpadan
YANGON, 8 April - Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Son accompanied by Managing Director U Min Hla Aung of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading and officials, arrived at warehouse group in Alegon, Thayawady Township, this morning.The minister gave instruction on arrangements for systematic storage of paddy and other crops, measures for prevention of loss and wastage, growing shady trees, perennial trees and planing of flowers and scale and inspected storage of paddy in the warehouse.
Then, the minister inspected storage of paddy in No 1 warehouse of MAPT in Minhla and Hla Thiri Cinema and gave necessary instruction .
In the briefing hall of 250- ton rice mill in Latpadan, the minister gave instruction on work and inspected milling of rice, storage of rice and paddy and production of PP brand polyethylene bag at the factory for staff welfare.
(6) Minister inspects social welfare tasks in Mandalay
YANGON, 8 April - Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, accompanied by Director-General U Sit Myaing of Social Welfare Development in Mandalay on 5 April.Head of Mandalay Divisions SWD U Aung Than and officials welcomed the minister and party.
Then, the minister and party presented K 100,000 for opening multimedia classroom and toys to the in-charge of No 1 Pre- Primary School and officials. Afterward, the minister inspected Mandalay Division SWD, School for the Girls and the Nursery and presented toys and sports equipment to the officials.
(7) Under-19 soccer team back from RPC
YANGON, 8 April -Myanmar youth teams arrived back by air yesterday evening after part in the Group 6 qualifiers for the 32nd Under-19 Asia Soccer People's Republic of China from 1 to 5 April.
At the airport, teams leader Lt-Col Maung Ko, Manager U Khin Maung Kyaing, Coaches U Khin Maung Tint and U Aye Kyu met the press.
(8) Delegates from ASEAN countries leave
YANGON, 8 April- Representatives from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei and the Philippines left here by air today after attending the 35th ASEAN -COCI meeting Cultural and Information Committee in Myanmar. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by officials.
(9) Development of waterways on Ayeyawady River under way
YANGON, 8 April-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe inspected on Ayeyawady River at Bagan-Nyaung U region yesterday morning. The minister and party then inspected dredging and measures begin taken for improvement of the waterway on Ayeyawady River at Bagan-NyaungU section.
The minister and party then inspected jetties, dredging and development of waterway along Ayeyawady River in the region.
(10) Deputy Minister inspects greening work in Mandalay Division
YANGON, 8 April- Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thik Tun, accompanied by Director -General of Arid zone Greening Department U Tun Tun and officials, inspected herbal plantation in Poppa Mountain Garden on 6 April morning.
Administrator U Myint Wai conducted the deputy minister round the garden.Deputy Minister Col Thaik Tun together with staff officers and staff of Taungtha Township, secretary and executives of Myingyan and Development Association went to Thungtha Hall and inspected greening work at the hill yesterday morning.
(11) 0.6 kilo of heroin and 8,500 stimulant tables seized in Tachilek
YANGON, 7 April-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched Aik Ohn's house, Wun Kyauk Lya Village, Phanmin Village-tract, Tachilek Township, and arrested Aik Ohn, Nan Maw Kyan, Wun Kyauk Lya village and Ar Hwa(a) Kyin Hwa, Panhon Village, Kwunlon Township, together with 0.6 kilo of two blocks of heroin and 8,500 stimulant tables bearing the words " WY".
Action has been taken against them in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
(12) 9 Myeik NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 7 April -Nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Myeik Township, Taninthayi Division.
Nine members of Monyo Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myeik Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 28 December 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
