(1) Secretary-1 attends opening of modern Thanzay Market and Lanmadaw Plaza

YANGON, 26 March - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the opening of modem Thanzay Market and Lanmadaw Plaza jointly built by Yangon City  Development Committee and Asia Express (Yangon) Co Ltd in Lanmadaw Township this morning. joint  Secretary of YCDC U Kyi Win and Chairman of Asia Express (Yangon) Co Ltd U Maung Maung formally opened modern Thanzay Market and Lanmadaw Plaza.

The Secretary-l, Mayor U Ko Lay and Chairman of Asia Express (Yangon) Co Ltd U Maung Maung  performed the ritual of silver and golden showers.

Then, the Secretary-l and party inspected modern Thanzay Market and Lanmadaw Plaza.

Afterwards, the Secretary-l and party inspected Lanmadaw Branch of Kanbawza Bank Ltd opened on  the ground floor of Lanmadaw Plaza.

Chairman of Kanbawza Bank Ltd U Aung Ko Win and officials explained matters related to the branch.  The Secretary-l signed in the visitors' book.

There are meat, fish, vegetable and food stalls in the basement of modern Thanzay Market, aluminum  wares, plates and iron wares on the ground floor, flour, dry goods, general goods and textiles on the  first floor, textile, toilet goods and cosmetics on the second floor and halls, office rooms and apartments  from the third floor up to 11th floor.

Lanmadaw Plaza is a 12-storey building with 404 apartments and 42 stalls totalling 446, and there are  stalls from the ground floor up to the second floor, and apartments on the other floors.
 


(2)Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony of Myanma Umbrella Factory in Hline Township

YANGON, 26 March - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt,Gen Khin Nyunt attended the opening ceremony of Myanma Umbrella Factory of Myanma General and Maintenance  Industries under the Ministry of Industry-1 on Yangon-Insein Road in Hline Township, here, at 9 am today.

Also present on the occasion were ministers, the attorney-general, the mayor, deputy ministers, officials  of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, social organizations, the  factory manager and staff and guests.

At the auspicious time, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt unveiled the signboard of the factory.

Managing Director U Thaik Tun of MGMI and Factory Manager Daw Khin Nyunt formally opened the  factory.

Managing Director U Thaik Tun reported on location and area of the factory, production process, kinds  of umbrella produced at the factory, annual production, arrangements for availability of raw materials,  further arrangements, distribution, strength of the staff and welfare programme.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt discussed matters related to local production and installation of  spare parts and distribution .

Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung presented gifts to Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Afterwards, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected production process.

The factory is producing Turkey and Yak Brand umbrellas at the rate of 2,000 per day.

(3) Hline River Bridge (Myo Chaung) commissioned into service in Hmawby Township

YANGON, 26 March - Hailing the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day, the inauguration ceremony of  Hline River Bridge (Myo Chaung) constructed by Public Works of the Ministry of Construction was  held at the bridge in Hmawby Township, Yangon Division, this morning.

The Hline River Bridge (Myo Chaung) linking Hmawby and Htantabin Townships, is the first bridge
among the construction projects of Bawle Island bridges.

Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented commemorative gifts to Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin  Oo and Commander Maj- Gen Khin Maung Than.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo presented gifts to Super-intending Engineer (Planning) U San Nyein.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun formally opened the bridge.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun pressed the button to unveil the stone plaque of the bridge.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt- Gen Tin Oo inspected the bridge and cordially greeted the people.

The reinforced concrete Hline River Bridge (Myo Chaung) is 1,940 feet long. The motorway is 24 feet  wide.

Clearance of the bridge is 130 feet wide and 36 feet high and it can bear 60-ton loads.

After the ceremony, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected construction of approach roads for  the Bawle Island bridges project.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party arrived at the construction site of Bawle River Bridge
(Yaypawthoung) and inspected the project. Bawle River Bridge .(Yaypawthoung), reinforced concrete  bridge, will link Htantabin and Taikkyi Townships and it is 1,940 feet long.

At the briefing hall, Yangon Division Superintending Engineer of Pubic Works U Soe Nyunt reported to  Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo on construction of streets which are 22 feet or and 12 feet wide in Hmawby,  Htantabin and Taikkyi Townships for the Bawle Island bridge project and Superintending Engineer  (Planning) U San Nyein on construction of Bawle River Bridge (Yaypawthoung).

Six road sections, namely, Yaytwingon-Myo Chaung section, Gyokone-Myauklatkone section,
Myauklatkone- Kyutaw section, Kyutaw-Kantlantkone section, Kantlantkone-Yaypawthoung section  and Minlawa-Kunchankone section, are being constructed by Public Works for the development of  Htantabin, Hmawby and Taikyi Townships.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than also reported to the Secretary-2 on construction of Hleseik- Kyutaw-Auklamutan Street, Tagwa-Thayetchaung-Hleselk Street and Ywatha-Tawlati- Minlawa Street  and work to done.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended to their needs.

Bawle Island in Htantabin Township and Aikalaung Island in Taikkyi Township were surrounded by
Hline, Bawle and Ayeyawady River and so, this region lagged behind in transportation and
development in Yangon Division. The opening of Hline River River Bridge (Myo Chaung) is an important step taken for the implementation of development projects in the region.

(4) 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Art Competition  and Exhibition opens

YANGON, 26 March - The 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Art Competition and Exhibition opened at the Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road this morning,  attended by Chairman  of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces  Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army); Lt-Gen Tin Oo formally opened the Literary and  Arts Competition and Exhibition.

Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe formally unveiled the paintings of Wethigan  and Panwar
Battles.

Chairman of Leading Committee for Observance of the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of  Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt Gen Tin Oo and party inspected photos of  colour photo competition, works of the winners, paintings in commemoration of the 55th Anniversary  Armed Forces Day, prize-winning works of sculpture and biographies of the winners.

Chairman of Leading Committee for Observance of the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of  Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party prize-winning essays,  poems, computer drawings, poems and marching songs.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo greeted the winners.

Literary and Art Competition and Exhibition will be kept open from 9 am to 5 pm till 4 April. Admission is  free.


(5) Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital opens

YANGON, 26 March - As a gesture hailing the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day, the opening
ceremony of Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of the Department of Health under the Ministry of Health  was held at the hospital at the corner of Byaingyay Ohzin Street and Banyadala Street in Tamway  Township this afternoon.

On behalf of Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Minister for  Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein attended the ceremony and formally unveiled the plaque of the hospital.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein formally opened the hospital.

Then, on behalf of the Secretary-1, Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein formally unveiled the plaque of the
hospital.

Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health Dr Soe Aung presented a commemorative gift to  Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo.

The ceremony to commemorate the opening of the hospital was held in the meeting hall of the hospital.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein said that the national health plan has been formulated and implemented
systematically to ensure that people enjoy longevity and are free from disease.

In accord with the guidance of the Head of State; the Government is investing huge sums of money in  the health sector. Material resources such as the construction of new hospitals and the providing of modern medicines and medical equipment have been supplied.

The Government is attending to health requirements to narrow the gap of health care between rural and  urban regions, to provide equal health care services for people from upper and lower Myanmar and to  see to it that health care services provided in Mandalay and Yangon are of equal standard.

Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital (150-bed) opened today is the first of its kind in Myanmar. Specialists will  give effective treatment to patients and the hospital produce ear, nose and throat physicians. Thus efforts are to be made for human resources development, which plays a fundamental role in developing  arts and science fields, in' accord with the guidance of the Head of State.

The four-storey hospital, 186.feet high and 50 feet wide, a laundry building, a four-storey staff quarters,  the fence of the hospital and parking lots were built at a cost of over K 258.999 million.

The hospital will serve as a postgraduate training school which will produce ear, nose and throat
physicians, a research centre and a place where international medical seminar can be held.

In hospitals in Myanmar, the cost sharing system is used only for those who can afford, and free
treatment is given for those who can't afford.

Trust funds have been set up for the poor and needy in 120 hospitals of the entire nation, and thc trust  funds exceed K 110 million.

In conclusion, the minister urged health employees of the hospital:to strive for the improvement of
quality

The trust fund has been set up for the poor and needy.

The ministers and the mayor accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the well-
wishers.

After the ceremony, the ministers, the mayor, the deputy ministers and the guests toured the hospital.

(6) Hospital equipment donated to Ministry of Health

YANGON, 26 March - Japan international Cooperation Agency presented Hepatitis C test kits worth  60,000 US dollars to Minister of Health at the meeting hall of Medical Research Department this morning.

First, well-wisher Professor Shigeru Oakada explained the purpose of the donation and presented the  hospital equipment to the Minister.

The Minister thanked the well-wisher for his donation and presented a certificate of honour to him.


(7) Eighth ordination and novitiation ceremony of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation held

YANGON, 26 March - The eighth ordination and novitiation ceremony of Ministry of Agriculture and  Irrigation was held at the hall of the Minister's Office this morning.

Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Khin Maung and  U Ohn Myint, department heads and staff families were present.

Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Tikkhasara  administered the Nine Precepts.

Members of the Sangha recited the parittas.

Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and wife Daw Khin Myo Oo, Deputy Minister Brig- Gen Khin Maung and  wife Daw Aye Aye Cho, Deputy Minister U Ohn Myint and wife Daw Thet War and officials presented  offertories to the Sayadaws.

Then, Presiding Sayadaw of Kalaywa Tawya Sarthintaik in Mayangon Township Agga Maha Pandita  Bhaddanta Xagarabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

The minister, the deputy ministers and officials offered 'soon' to members of the Sangha.

(8) Minister for PBANRDA attends opening of repaved streets in Maubin

YANGON, 26 March - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development  Affairs Col Thein Nyunt this morning attended ceremony to open repaved streets in Maubin Township,  hailing the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day.

Executive Officer U Than Oo of Maubin Township Development Affairs Committee and Secretary U  Win Naing Kyaw of Maubin District USDA formally opened Shwe Phone Myint Pagoda Street.
Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Hla Than and Secretary of Township USDA  U Myint Soe formally opened the road.

The street, 1,300 feet long and 18 feet wide, was paved at a cost of K 4.6 million.

Similarly, Secretary of District Peace and Development Council Major Chit Myaing and U Win Naing  Kyaw formally opened the 919 feet long and 18 feet wide Teza street built at a cost of K 1.5 million.

The minister inspected preventive measures against erosion of Pawdawmu Pagoda and met officials.

USDA CEC member Col Thein Nyunt attended certificate presentation of Basic Accountancy Course No  3 and presented certificates to the trainees.


(9) Minister inspects police station in Taunggyi

YANGON, 26 March - Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, together with Deputy Commander of  Shan State' Police Force Police Lt-Col Aung Myint and officials, inspected No1 Police Station and  security measures in Taunggyi on 23 and 24 March.

The minister gave instructions on the implementation of tasks for reform of management system of
Myanmar Police Force, crime reduction, discharging duties with five working programmes, the building  of a reserve national defence force with four tasks, cooperation with the people in implementing six  resolutions of the mass meeting, held in Bagan communal welfare activities, the strengthening of unity  of the police force, drug control and prevention and staff welfare work.

Then, the minister inspected the functions of the patrols and gave instructions.

(10) 41 Warangai Village-tract NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 26 March - Fourty-one members resigned from the National League for Democracy of
Warangai Village-tract, Taze Township, Sagaing Division.

Fourty-one members of Warangai Village-tract, Taze Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own  accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Taze Township Multiparty Democracy General  Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 4 November 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
