YANGON, 3 March - A meeting on assessing Myanmar's report submitted to the 22nd Meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women took place in the meeting hall of the Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement this afternoon, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-l said that the purpose of the meeting was to assess and discuss re- ports presented by the Myanmar delegation to the 22nd Meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women and to lay down future tasks.

Due to preposterous accusations of the Western media and misinformation created by internal and external destructive elements with regard to women's and children's affairs in Myanmar, those who do not know the true situation of Myanmar, are likely to have a wrong view on Myanmar.

Reports and discussions which give a misleading impression on Myanmar, occur frequently even at the meetings of UN agencies.

The accusations that there are instances of infringing women's rights in Myanmar, implies saying wrong things regardless of rights being enjoyed by millions of Myanmar women and placing emphasis on affairs of a person.

Being a member of the world community, Myanmar has maintained friendly relations with other nations, and it is also required to effectively inform them of objective conditions of the nation without ignoring preposterous accusations against Myanmar.

Ways and means are to be sought to acquaint international community with measures being taken for women's affairs in Myanmar.

In conclusion, the Secretary-l encouraged all to contribute to the discussions.

Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung explained about assessment of the report submitted by permanent representative U Win Mra to the 22nd Meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women.

Member of the Myanmar delegation Head of Working Group for Education Professor of the Department of Psychology Daw Khin Aye Win of Yangon University explained about assessment of the report and answers to queries and future tasks to be carried out by Myanmar.

Then, a general round of discussions followed.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 said due to reports, suggestions and discussions, there have emerged measures to be taken for women's affairs in Myanmar. As regards efforts for women's welfare, Myanmar tops the list of world nations. Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs comprising delegates of departments and non-governmental organizations has formed the working committee, working groups and committees at different levels and is launching nation-wide movements.

It is found that as much as efforts of MNWCWA become successful and effective, the mass of Myanmar women will be able to take part more actively in the tasks of the committee.

In conclusion, the Secretary-l said that MNWCWA which represents the entire mass of Myanmar women, needs to continue to extensively carry out its noble tasks from the central level up to the grassroots level, and efforts are to be made to inform international community of these tasks and objective conditions of the nation .
