(1) Special Refresher Course for Basic Education Teachers concluded

YANGON, 11 Feb - Special Refresher Course for Basic Education Teachers concluded at Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division, this morning, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-1 presented awards to the outstanding trainees.

The trainees presented K 20,000 for construction of a school building of the High School in Zeebingyi village.

The Secretary-1 accepted the donations.


(2) Secretary-1 inspects development tasks in Mandalay Division

YANGON, 11 Feb - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by ministers, the chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board, deputy minister, the Chief of Staff (Air), officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads and officials, left for Mandalay by Tatmadaw aircraft yesterday afternoon.

The Secretary-1 and party visited Taungthaman Maha Thakkya Yanthi Kyauktawgyi Pagoda in Amarapura, and paid homage to the pagoda.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party paid respects and offered alms to Sayadaw of Taungthaman Kyaungtaik Bhaddanta Aggavarnsa.

Next, the Secretary-1 made donations for the funds of the pagoda and signed in the visitors  book.
The Secretary-1 and party visited the project site of Nationalities Youth Resource Development Degree College (Upper Myanmar), where they were welcomed by Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs and employees and USDA members. The Secretary-1 gave instructions on the work.

The Secretary-1 and party  went to Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in Nanmyo, and paid homage to the Buddha images in Gandakuditaik and Dhammayon.

The Secretary-1 and party stopped for the night at the guest house of Nanmyo.

The Secretary-1 and party left Mandalay by helicopters this morning and arrived at Zeebingyi in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division, at 8.15am.

The Secretary-1 and party proceeded to  project site of the central fire fighting training school.  Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and officials reported on the organizational  set-up and the strength of the present staff of the training school, progress of work in implementing the project, staff welfare and greening work for the compound of the training school. The Secretary-1 gave instructions on staff welfare, cultivation of crops and matters related to the training school.

Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing reported on the building of the entrance road.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party visited Maha Anhtookantha Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in PyinOoLwin.

The Secretary-1 and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and families of the Directorate of Defence Services Intelligence donated K 2.1 million for the pagoda.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected the construction of Maha Anhtookantha Hsutaungpyi Pagoda on Dhammarathi Hill and Botanical Gardens in PyinOoLwin Township.

The Secretary-1 and party went to the ornamental stone production site in Sakyin Village, Madaya Township, PyinOoLwin District.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected the 400-ton alabaster stone to be carved into a Buddha Image.

(3) Minister inspects heavy machinery for Paunglaung  Multi-purpose Dam Project

YANGON, 11 Feb - A ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of No 4 Basic Education High School was held in PyinOoLwin, Mandalay Division, this Morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the stone plaque of the multimedia teaching centre.

The Secretary-1 and party  then inspected the audio visual broadcasting room, the audio visual halls, the computer application room, the computer aided instruction room, the projected media room, the language lab, the aesthetic teaching room, domestic science and drawing and painting room.

The ceremony to mark the opening of the multimedia teaching centre of No 4 BEHS took place at the school.

The Secretary-1 presented a video tape on the life of the Buddha for the school to the headmistress.

Then, the Secretary-1 signed in the school record s book.


(4) People long for cool, pleasant environment in hot weather,  yearn for warm surroundings in frigid weather

YANGON, 11 Feb - Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint inspected developing of Thandaunggyi Hill Station in Thandaung Township, Kayin State, today.
On arrival there, the Secretary-3 and party were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command and personnel concerned.

At the briefing hall, Commander Maj-Gen Tin Aye reported on location of Thandaunggyi, travel distance from Toungoo and Yangon to the town, climate and area of the region and preparations to develop the town into a hill station.

The Secretary-3 and party gave replies to queries raised by national entrepreneurs. They arrived back here in the evening.


(5) Union Flag conveyed from Yangon North District to  Yangon East District

YANGON, 11 Feb - The Union Flag which rested overnight on the stage in Gyophyu Sports Ground in Taikkyi Township, Yangon North District, was conveyed from there to Dagon Myothit(South) Township, Yangon East District, this morning by the Union Flag relay teams.

(6) Navy junior officers urged to strive for building strong, qualified and advanced Tatmadaw all round

 YANGON, 11 Feb - Management courses 1/99 and 2/99 for junior officers and engineering course 2/99 for junior officers of the Tatmadaw (Navy) concluded at the parade grounds of Naval Training Command Headquarters this morning.

Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein, on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, delivered an address.

Commander-in-Chief (Navy) presented best trainee awards to winners.

Certificates were then presented to trainee officers.


(7) Minister for Foreign Affairs leaves for ASEAN-UN Summit

YANGON, 11 Feb - Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung left here by air this afternoon to participate in the ASEAN-UN Summit, as the Special Envoy of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council, to be held on 12 February 2000 in Bangkok, Thailand.


(8) Minister meets quests from ROK, Japan

YANGON, 11 Feb - Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Managing Director of Daewoo Corporation of Republic of Korea Mr KS Oh and party at his office at 9 am today.


(9) Minister inspects heavy machinery for Paunglaung  Multi-purpose Dam Project

YANGON, 11 Feb - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin inspected imported heavy machinery, parts and pontoons to be sent to Paunglaung Multi-purpose Dam Project, at Irrigation Department at 9-mile, Mayangon Township, this evening.

(10)  14 remnant SURA members exchange arms for peace

YANGON, 11 Feb - The State Peace and Development Council, upholding Our Three Main National Courses, is striving for national reconsolidation, and is implementing the 12 political, economic and social objectives for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation.
Realizing that their destructive acts did not benefit the nation at all and understanding the genuine goodwill and correct endeavours of the government, remaining armed groups have been exchanging arms for peace individually or in groups.

Sgt San Tan, Cpl San Yun, medical assistant Tun Aung of No 157 Battalion of No 758 Brigade of remnant SURA armed group, bringing together with one M-79 launcher, tow 40-mm shells, one M-23 sub-machine gun, 10 rounds of ammunition and two 60-mm shells, exchanged arms for peace at Manpang camp on 3 February.

Lieutenant level Aik Aung and wife Ma Nang Aung, Sgt Sai Tun, Cpl Sai Li, Clerk Sai Ohn, Pvts Sat Law, Maung Khin, Sai Linn, Kaw Lein and Aik La of No 150 Battalion, with one M-79 launcher, two 40-mm shells, three M-22s, three magazines, three M-16s, three magazines and 39 rounds of ammunition, exchanged arms for peace at Montown camp on 4 February and Pvt Aik Htat of No 153 Battalion at Montwon camp on 5 February.

Officials of North-East Command warmly welcomed 14 persons who exchanged arms for peace, and attended to their needs.


(11)  53 Pyay Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 11 Feb - Fifty-three members resigned from National League for Democracy of Pyay Township, Bago Division.

Fifty-three members of Pyay Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pyay Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 22 October 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
