(1) Secretary-1 receives SRV National Assembly Vice-President
YANGON, 27 Jan - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Vice-President of National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam member of the Central Committee of Vietnam Communist Party Mr Nguyen Van Yeu and goodwill delegation at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this morning.
The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of SRV Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa.
(2)Secretary-1 visits U Lun Gywe Solo Art Show
YANGON, 27 Jan - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt visited U Lun Gywe Solo Art Show at the National Museum this evening.
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed works of U Lun Gywe which were 99 oils, 16 water-colours, three charcoals, three pastels, two water-inks and one water-charcoal totalling 124.
He then viewed the works of art students which were entries to the contest held in commemoration of U Lun Gywe Solo Art Show.
After signing in the visitor's book, he left the show.
(3)Minister for Forestry meets divisional officials
YANGON, 27 Jan - Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone met divisional officials of Forest Department, Myanma Timber Enterprise and Arid Zone Greening Department at the Tawwin Hall of Forest Department this afternoon. Minister U Aung Phone explained work done and work remaining to be done for 1999-2000 fiscal and instructed them to make efforts for success of departmental work, to take remedial measures for weaknesses of departments concerned in the last nine months and to follow the guidance of the Head of State in doing departmental work.
(4)Ministry of Transport holds third four-monthly work coord meeting
YANGON, 27 Jan - The Ministry of Transport held its third four-monthly work coordination meeting for 1999 in the meeting hall of the ministry this morning with an opening address by Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe.
The minister said greatly important is the role of the Ministry of Transport which serves as lifeline in striving for economic development of the State.
He stated that out of services sectors, the transport sector has achieved development by 11.6 %, and all are to make strenuous efforts to maintain and exceed that rate.
He spoke of the need for all to strive to earn more income and to frugally use the budget, and added that the ministry has already earned nearly all the targeted amount of foreign exchange, and efforts are to be made to exceed the target in another three months' time.
He said that similarly, only a little amount of local currency is required to meet the target and it is necessary for all to strive to earn more income and to reduce expenditure, and thus, the target can be exceeded.
In conclusion, the minister urged all to work harder in three months' time.
(5) Rail Transportation Ministry holds meeting
YANGON, 27 Jan -The Ministry of Rail Transportation held the third four-monthly meeting this afternoon at the Road Transport Administration Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister U Pan Aung said precise data should be kept to reduce loss and wastage and prevent malpractice. Staff should strive in harmony for the progress of their functions to ensure safety of goods and passengers and smooth transport.
Officials should present weakness and Progress during the four-month period and to work for staff welfare.

(6)20th Myanmar Dental Association Conference, World Dental Federation first joint meeting begins
YANGON, 27 Jan - Myanmar Dental Association held its 20th Conference and the first joint meeting of World Dental Federation at Traders Hotel this morning, addressed by Patron of MDA Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein.
Cash was donated to students of the poor families who are studying at the Institute of Dental Medicine.
Dr Aung Myo and wife Dr Lwin Lwin Sein donated K 3.5 million and Dr Moe Tin and wife Dr Ei Ei Tin K 1 million through Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein.
Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein formally opened the medical exhibition marking the MDA 20th Conference and the FDI meeting.
Thirty-one papers will be read at the conference which continues till 30 January.
(7)Pianos and organs for two ministries
YANGON, 27 Jan - Mr Yuko Jimbo and Mrs Keiichi Jimbo of Ko Ko Ro Volunteer Group of Japan presented pianos and organs to the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement this afternoon at the minister's office of the Ministry of Culture.
Mr Yuko Jimbo explained the purpose of the donation.
Mr and Mrs Jimbo presented the musical instruments to Minister for Culture U Win Sein and Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa.
The ministers presented them certificates of honour.
Ministers U Win Sein and Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt thanked them.
The donors presented five pianos and one synthesizer to the Ministry of Culture and two organs and a piano to the
Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

YANGON, 27 Jan - Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin met Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran at office at 3 pm today.

(9)Myanmar Police Force holds third four-monthly work coord meeting
YANGON, 27 Jan -The third four-monthly work coordination meeting for 1999 of Myanmar Police Force was held in the meeting hall of MPF this afternoon, addressed by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing.
The minister said it is required to set the targets for Year 2000 after finding out advantages and disadvantages of the work done in a year's time.
The minister urged all the police members to adopt the six resolutions passed at the mass meeting ushering in 21st Century as their pledge and spoke of the need for them to work hard for the emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation.
He also said that it is necessary to prevent lawless activities and plots of internal and external organizations which are attempting to destroy the nation.
He then urged all to strive to become a police force on which the State can rely and an organization of high dignity in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe.
He said action is to be taken as soon as cases are opened at the police station, and plans are to be drawn to Prevent the spread of stimulant tablets among students.
In conclusion, the minister said welfare activities are to be carried out for the families of police members within the framework of the law.

YANGON, 27 Jan - French Business Association of Myanmar (FBAM) and Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Pansea Hotel in Dagon Township this evening.
Present on the occasion were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel and Deputy Minister , Deputy Minister for Energy , Ambassadors of France and Italy, Advisers at UMFCCI , Chairman of UMFCCI and Vice-Chairmen , Secretary-General and CEC members, executives and officials of FBAM and guests.

(11)Vietnamese goodwill delegation concludes visit
YANGON, 27 Jan - A five-member Vietnamese delegation led by Vice-President of National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Member of Central Committee of Vietnam Communist Party Mr Nguyen Van Yeu left here for home by air this morning after concluding the visit to Myanmar at the invitation of Chairman of National Convention Convening Work Committee U Aung Toe.
(12)Nearly 75,424 electorate of Kani submit petitions expressing no confidence in NLD representative-elect U Khin Maung Than and U Thant Zin
YANGON, 27 Jan - A total of 75,424 electorate of Kani Township Constituency-1 and Constituency-2, Sagaing Division, submitted signed declarations expressing no confidence in U Khin Maung Than and U Thant Zin, Pyithu Hluttaw Representative-elect of National League for Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Kani Township Constituency-1 and Constituency-2 and no support for them at the rallies held in Sulegon Village tract, Myoma Ward of Tabaung Village MC, and Chaungma Village tract of the township on 15 December morning at the same time.
A total of 9,663 local people of surrounding villages in Constituency-1 area rallied at Sulegon Village tract.
Farmer U Bo Myint from Sulegon Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Khin Maung Than of National League for Democracy and no support for him. Then, farmer U Min Naing from Sulegon Village presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Khin Maung Than and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Khin Maung Htay.
Altogether 14,150 local people of surrounding villages in Constituency-1 area rallied at Tabaung Village tract.
Farmer U Than Lwin from Tabaung Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Khin Maung Than of National League for Democracy and no support for him. Then, farmer U Khin Maung San presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Khin Maung Than and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Aung Myint.
Altogether 7,670 local people of surrounding wards and villages in Constituency- 2 area rallied in Myoma Ward.
U Tun Lu from Myoma Ward, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Thant Zin of National League for Democracy and no support for him. Then, merchant U Thein Maung presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Thant Zin and no support for him. signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Dr Aung Kyaw Myint.
About 7,266 local people of surrounding villages in Constituency-2 area rallied at Chaungma Village tract.
Farmer U Aye Maung from Chaungma Village, on behalf of w the voters, expressed no confidence in U Thant Zin of National League for Democracy and no support for him. Then, farmer U Than presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Thant Zin and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Kyaw Htay.
Out of 30,501 electorate of Kani Township Constituency-1, 17s238 or 56.51 per cent voted for U Khin Maung Than of NLD in 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election.
The number of voters who presented signed petitions of no confidence in U Khin Maung Than totalled 36,705 or 98.68 per cent.
Out of 31,839 electorate of Kani Township Constituency-2, 18,781 or 58.98 per cent voted for U Thant Zin of NLD in 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election.
The number of voters who presented signed petitions of no confidence in U Thant Zin totalled 38,719 or 97.86 per cent.

(13)60 Myogon Village-tract NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 27 Jan - Sixty members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Myogon Village-tract in Shwegu Township, Kachin State.
Sixty members of Myogon Village-tract NLD in Shwegu Township, Kachin State, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myogon Village-tract Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission in Shwegu Township and the party concerned on 15 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
