(1) General Maung Aye attends dinner to mark Graduation of No 102 Intake of OTSYANGON, 25 Dec-Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye attended the dinner to mark the Graduation of the No 102 Intake of Defence Services (Army) Officers Training School at the military appointment hall of the School in Bahtoo Tatmyo, Shan State, yesterday evening.
The dinner was attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Services (Army) Officers Training School Col Kyaw Thu and relatives of the newly-graduated officers and guests.
After the dinner, General Maung Aye and party viewed the entertainment programme of the school.General Maung Aye met the best cadet and the outstanding cadet and their relatives at the school at 9 am yesterday .
General Maung Aye and party arrived back here at 10.30 am today by Tatmadaw flight. Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut who accompanied General Maung Aye inspected Zawgyi No 1 Hydro Electric Power Plant in Yaksauk Township yesterday morning.
Shan State Electric Engineer U Than Naing Tar and Factory Manager U Thein Han reported on the operation of the factory.
Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut gave instructions on operating of the plant at full capacity, staff welfare and plantations of crops in the compound of the factory.
(2) No 10 Sugar Mill (Duyingabo) opens in Aunglan
YANGON, 25 Dec-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by ministers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments and officials, left here by Tatmadaw flight for Pyay this morning and arrived there at 8.30 am.
The Secretary- 1 and party, together with Commander Brig-Gen Tin Aye, arrived at No 10 Sugar Mill (Duyingabo). A ceremony to open No 10 Sugar Mill (Duyingabo) of Myanma Sugarcane Enterprise was held at Pyinbinhla Village in Duyingabo Village Tract in Aunglan Township, Magway Division.
The Secretary-1 formally opened the sugar mill. Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and Managing Director of MSE U Myo Myint reported on the number of sugar mills, cultivation acreage of sugarcane, output of sugarcane tonnage, condition of purchase of sugarcane, the amount of sugarcane required for sugar mills, sugar tonnage to be produced, facts about nine sugar mill projects and arrangements for extension of sugarcane cultivation.
The Secretary-1 said sugar mills were built with the investment of a large sum of money and spoke of the need to make arrangements for operating the. mill at full capacity, supplying sufficient raw materials, producing quality sugar, recovering cost from investment in the scheduled period, purchase, transport, storage and minimizing wastage and loss.
He said arrangements are to be made for sufficient cultivation of sugarcane in factory areas. He called on regional authorities, sugarcane growers and service personnel to cooperate in extending sugarcane cultivation.
The Secretary-1 then gave instructions. The Secretary-l and party went to Shwebontha Muni Pagoda in Padaung Township where they were welcomed by members of Division, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental personnel, members of USDA, organizations and Board of Trustees.
The Secretary-l and party paid obeisance to Buddha images. The Secretary-l then made donation to the pagoda funds. (3) Secretary-2 to visit Lao PDR
YANGON, 25 Dec-At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Lt-Gen Choummaly Saya Sone of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo will pay a goodwill visit to Lao PDR in the near future.
(4) Rice donated to monasteries in Bahan Township
YANGON, 25 Dec-Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice to Ngadatgyi and Webyan Monasteries in Bahan Township at Ngadatgyi Monastery this morning. Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the ceremony.
Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw of Ngadatgyi Monastery Maha Gandavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Nayaka administered the Five Precepts.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint donated provisions to Sayadaws.Then, Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Commodore Kyi Min and General Staff Officer (Grade-I) (Air) Lt-Col Maung Maung Lay offered rice donated by the families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers to the Sayadaws. Afterwards, service personnel and well-wishers donated provisions to Presiding Nayaka Sayadaws and K 220,000 for the funds of respective monasteries to Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and deputy ministers.
Then, Bhaddanta Pamokkha of Ngadatgyi Monastery delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.
(5) Sasana Takkasila Maha Dhammacariya title conferred on eight monks, Sasana Takkasila Dhammacariya title on 85 monks
YANGON, 25 Dec-The fifth ceremony to confer Sasana Takkasila Maha Dhammacariya and Sasana Takkasila Dhammacariya titles of the State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon and Mandalay) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs was held at Maha Pasana Cave, Kaba Aye, this afternoon.
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Counci1 Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the ceremony and offered alms to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.
The ceremony was graced by members of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee led by Chairman SayadawAbhidhaja MahaRattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhama Jotika Bhaddanta Sobhita and Secretary Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhama Jotika Bhaddanta Kumara, Ovadacariya Sayadaws, Sayadaws of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Tipitakadhara Dhamma Bandagarika Sayadaws, academic and administrative Sayadaws of State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkathos (Yangon and Mandalay), and monks who are studying at State Pari-yatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon).Master of ceremonies Director-General of the Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin read the agenda of the ceremony. Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa invested the congregation with the Five Precepts.
Then, the Sayadaw read Saraniya Ovadakatha of Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita. In the Sariniya Ovadakatha, the Sayadaw stressed the importance of unity among academic and administrative Sayadaws, monks and officials of Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho.The Sayadaw urged them to discharge assigned duties in unity and harmony.
The Sayadaw elaborated on Pariyatti Sasana, Padipatti Sasana and Padiveda Sasana, and said that the Government, the State Peace and Development Council, is working hard for the interests of the race and religion, and it is also an opportune time to carry out missionary tasks. The officials of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, companies and associations offered provisions to the title holder monks.
(6) Secretary-2 attends ceremony to export barbed wire machines made in Myanmar
YANGON, 25 Dec-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended a ceremony to mark the first export of barbed wire machines made in Myanmar of Luthit Factory held at No 24 Thantzin Street, near Kyaikwaing Pagoda, Mayangon, here, this evening.Director-General of Cottage Industries Department Col Sein Than and owner of Luthit Factory U Yan Aung unveiled the ceremony.
Later, the Secretary-2 and party inspected the barbed wire machines. Afterwards, In-charge of Yangon West District Industrial Zone Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San and Deputy Minister for Industry-2 , U Thein Tun made speeches on the occasion.
Then, Director-General Col Sein Than explained production and distribution of the barbed wire machines. Deputy Minister Col Thaik Tun reported on efforts made by the State for the development of private industrial sector in building new, modern and developed nation.
The two barbed wire machines worth US$ 4,00 were exported to Indonesia for the first time and eight more been ordered by Indonesia.
(7) Myanmar Fisheries Federation holds first annual meeting
YANGON, 25 Dec -The first annual meeting of Myanmar Fisheries Federation and the opening of the marine products export promotion exhibition held at Yuzana Plaza in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this morning, was addressed by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. Chairman of Myanmar Fisheries Federation U Htay Myint delivered an opening speech.
Then, Ministers Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein and Brig-Gen Pyi Sone also made speeches. Afterwards, the Secretary2 delivered a speech. In his speech, the Secretary-2 said the Government is making all-out efforts for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation; long-term plans are being implemented for development of agriculture, fisheries, forestry, energy, industrial and commercial sectors.
Afterwards, the exhibition was opened. The Secretary-2 and party toured the exhibition.
(8) Minister inspects preparatory works for School Family Day
YANGON, 25 Dec-Chairman of Leading Committee for Organizing the School Family Day Minister for Education U Than Aung, accompanied by Deputy Minister U Myo Nyunt and officials, attended rehearsal of the School Family Day, which will be held from 27 December to 3 January 2000, at Diamond Jubilee Hall at 8 am today.
The minister and party inspected preparatory works for the opening ceremony of the School Family Day to be held on 27 December and the books festival displayed on the ground floor. A total of 75 private and departmental showrooms will sell the including rare books .
The minister and party left the Diamond Jubilee Hall at 9.50 am.
(9) 46 members resign from Monyo Township NLD
YANGON, 25-Forty-six members resigned from the National league for Democracy of Monyo Township, Bago Division.
Forty-six members of Monyo Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 5 October 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
