______________________________________(1)Chairman Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials of Ambassador of CubaYANGON, 24 Dec-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myamnar Senior General Than Shwe accepted the credentials of newly accredited, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Union of Myanmar Mr Ruben Perez Valdes at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence today.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.
(2)Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials of Ambassador of Sri Lanka
YANGON, 24 Dec-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe accepted the credentials of newly accredited Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Union of Myanmar Mr Ubhayasekara Mapa at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 9.30 today.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs UKhin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.
(3)Various means applied in uplifting qualification of Tatmadawmen at all levels, General Maung Aye addresses Graduation Parade of No 102 Intake of OTS
YANGON, 24 Dec-The Graduation ,Parade of the No 102 Intake of the Defencc Services (Army) Officers Training School was held at the Parade ground of OTS in Bahtoo Tatmyo this morning. On behalf of the Commander-in -Chief of Defence Services, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence, Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye delivered an address. Next, the company of the graduating cadets marched past the General Maung Aye.
On behalf of Commander in Chief of Defence Services, General Maung Aye presented the silver sword to Best Cadet award winner Cadet Phyo Zaw Aung. General Maung Aye said they are to serve as junior leaders at the places they are assigned duty. The Tatmadaw is the Armed Forces that always keeps in the fore Our Three Main National Causes: non-disintegration of the Union, non-disintegration of national solidarity and perpetuation of sovereignty.
In conclusion he said , " the Tatmadaw, upholding Our Three Main National Causes, is to carry out three main duties to defend the State, to be trained, and to perpetually serve the interest of the people, to be able to discharge these duties in accord with the 12 fine traditions, the Tatmadaw needs to be strong and capable; the Tatmadaw also needs to earn respect of the world and to be trusted by the people; the Tatmadaw needs to be able to always safeguard the nation against any dangers and defend the independence of the nation and strive for perpetuation of sovereignty.
Therefore, all need stick to the Three Constants-training to be constantly efficient, working to be constantly militarily alert and training to be constantly ready for combat ". Then, General Maung Aye left the parade ground.
(4)Officials find ways to develop transport of Taninthayi Division
YANGON, 24 Dec - A meeting held at Public Works this afternoon to coordinate tasks for development of Taninthayi Division, was addressed by Chairman of the Leading Committee for Region-wise Development of the Agricultural Sector Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo said the meeting was held to collectively seek means to fulfil the requirements of the transport and agriculture sectors . As transport is difficult in Taninthayi Division, funds have been allotted region-wise for completion of the Taninthayi-Bokpyin Kawthoung Road in fiscal year. More heavy equipment will be provided to the project in coordination with the respective departments.
In the previous year, entrepreneurs did not see development in their business as expected due to transport difficulties. Thus, all should take part in finding ways to complete Yangon-Taninihayi-Bokpyin-Kawthoung Road in this opening season. Progress in transport will lead to development in agriculture.
Secretary of the Leading Committee Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung reported on progress in building Myeik-Taninthay Bokpyin-Kawthoung Road. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave suggestions.
(5)Commander-in-Chief (Navy) attends 52nd Anniversary Tatmadaw Navy DayYANGON, 24 Dec-The parade to mark the 52nd Anniversary Tatmadaw Navy Day held at the parade ground Ayeyawady Naval Region Command this morning, was attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Tin.
Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein inspected the guard of honour and presented championship shield to Taninthayi Naval Region Command.
Then, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admira1 Nyunt Thein made a speech. Afterwards, officials offered 'soon' to members of the Sangha at Mayayizaya Yanrnyoaung Dhammayon at 10.30 am.
Shwelamin (Myawady) Anyeint presented entertainment programmes to officers and other rank and their families at Thiha Thura Tun Tin Hall in the evening.
(6)Chinese Vice-President, Foreign Minister meet with Myanmar Foreign Minister
YANGON, 24 Dec—According to a CCTV news report, the vice-president and the foreign minister of the People's Republic of China met separately with the foreign minister of Myanmar in Beijing today.
Both sides agreed on continuing all-round cooperation, especially in boosting mutual trade-links.During their talks, the vice-president said exchanges between nations' top leaders have helped promote friendly bilateral ties.
U Win Aung, the Myanmar foreign minister. said their countries are looking forward to continuing a long-term stable relationship for the 21st century.
(7)Minister inspects works of Dawbon Dockyard
YANGON, 24 Dec- Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Director-General U Soe Win of Department of Marine Administration and officials, arrived at Dawbon Dockyard this morning.
Factory Manager U Soe Tint reported to the minister on repairing ships in the dockyard beyond the target, staff organizational set up, staff welfare programme, repeal and re-construction of buildings and Director-General U Soe Win on financial matters, requirement of the dockyard factory, arrangements for opening of practical courses to turn out qualified sailors who will discharge duty on board foreign ships.
The minister gave necessary instructions.Then, the minister and party inspected docking works, piers and waterway of Maha Bandoola Bridge being built in the area of the dockyard and tasks of the dockyard.

(9)Mayor meets Vice-Chairman of International Body-building Federation
YANGON, 24 Dec -Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay met Vice Chairman of International Body-building Federation and General Secretary of Asia Body-building Federation Mr Pau1 Chua and members, currently here to discuss International Amateur Body-building Contest to be held in Yangon in year 2000, at his office this morning.
Then, Mayor U Ko Lay Presented souvenirs to them. Afterwards, Chairman of Medical Committee of International Body-building Federation Dr Robert Goldman presented US $ 1,500 to Col Myint Aung for Myanmar Body-building and Physical Culture Federation. Later, Dr Robert Goldman present the certificate of honour to Mayor.U Ko Lay and Col Myint Aung.
(10)62 members resign from Thegon Township NLD
YANGON, 24 Dec-Sixty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Thegon Township, Bago Division.
Sixty-two members of Thegon Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 12 November 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
