(1) Secretary-1 meets entrepreneurs of Hong- Kong Association of International Investment

YANGON, 16 Dec-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council L t-Gen Khin Nyunt received entrepreneurs led by Mr Tsui Sze Man and Mr Hui Chi Ming of Hong Kong Association of International investment of the People's Republic of China who called at Yeikthathit of the Ministry of Defence at 4.00 pm today.

Also present together with the Secretary-l were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for-Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and officials.

They discussed economic cooperation and matters related to investment.  Mr Tsui- Sze Man and Mr Hui Chi Ming presented 1.2 million Hong Kong dollars for Myanmar Education Committee.  The Secretary-l accepted the donations and presented a certificate of honour to them.


(2) Artistes who participated in the dramatic show "Amara, Keinnari, Madi and Thanbula" honored

YANGON, 16 Dec - A ceremony to honour those who participated in the dramatic show "Amara, Keinnari, Madi and Thanbula" of Dramatic Actor Mandalay Thein Zaw, sponsored by Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs, was held at the Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel at 7.00 pm today, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Chairman of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa spoke words of thanks.Dramatic Actor Mandalay Thein Zaw who played the Leading role in the dramatic show, presented a gold embroidery to the Secretary- l. Then, the Secretary-l presented a certificate of honour to the dramatic group.


(3) Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha Golden Jubilee Sankyaungdaw Museum, Exhibition opened
 
YANGON, 16 Dec-A ceremony to Sasana Yeiktha Golden Jubilee- Commemorative Sankyaungdaw Museum and Exhibition was held at Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha in Bahan Township this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Also present on the occasion were the Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhama Jotika Myingyan Koehsaungtaik Sayadaw and member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Ovadacariya Sayadaws of Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha, Sayadaws and members of the Sangha, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, the chairman of Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Aphwechoke and officials, Yogis and guests.

The Secretary-2, Chairman of Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Aphwechoke U Tin Wan and Vice-Chairman U Chu Than formally opened Sankyaungdaw Museum and the exhibition.  Then, Secretaary-2 and party toured Sankyaungdaw Museum. The golden jubilee of Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha was observed at Phanyin Dhammayon.

Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa administered the Eight Precepts. The Secretary-2 offered alms to the Chairman Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee. Afterwards, the commander, the ministers and party offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

Director- General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung supplicated on religious matters. The exhibition will continue till 19 December.
 


(4) 15th Sangha Meeting of All Shwekyin Nikaya  Ganas ends

YANGON, 16 Dec-The 15th Sangha Meeting of All Shwekyin Nikaya Ganas was held at Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Nyaungshwe, Shan State, today for the third and final day.

It was attended by State Ovadacariya Chairman of Shwekyin Nikaya Dhipati Maha Nayaka Abhidhaja Maha Ratthaguru Abhidaja Agga Maha Saddharnma Jotika Serasama Shwekyin Sasanabaing , Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimalabhivamsa of Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Nyaungshwe, State Ovadacariya Sayadaws of Shwekyin Gana, members of the Sangha of Central Working Committee of the Sangha, Nayaka Sayadaws, Vinaya Chairman Sayadaws, Chairmen of State, Division and Township Sangha Nayaka Committees and members totalling 490 members of the Sangha and 15 members of Shwekyin Gana from Sri Lanka, Japan, England and the States, States.  Member of the Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimalabhivamsa of Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik presided over the meeting jointly with State Ovadacariya Abhidhaja Maha Ratthaguru Joint Shwekyin Sasanabaing Sayadaw Bhaddanta Supanindabhivamsa Pahtama Gandayon Sayadaw of Sagaing Hills.

Afterwards, the Sayadaw thanked Thitagu Sayadaw Ashin Nanisara and Myanmar Ambassador U Aung Gyi. During the recess, Maj-Gen Maung Bo and Ministers Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and U Aung Khin presented offertories to the Sayadaws.

Maj-Gen Maung Bo and ministers offered 'soon' to the Shwekyin Sasanabaing Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.

In the afternoon session, the list of Shwekyin Nikaya Ratthanyu Maha Nayakas was read by Sayadaw U Sumingala Lankara of Tipi-taka Gandayon of Yangon, the list of Nayaka Sayadaws of Shwekyin Nikaya All Ganas Nayaka by Sayadaw Bhaddanta Odatasiribhivamsa of Mandalay Maha Withuda yon, the list of members of Executive Committee of Shwekyin Nikaya All Ganas Nayaka by the master of ceremonies.  Appointments were approved later.


(5) Minister meets President of China ZheJiang  Sifang Group Corporation

 Y ANGON, 16 Dec-Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung met President of China Zhejiang Sifang Group Corporation Mr Guangping Lin from the People's Republic of China and party who called at his office at 1.30 pm today.
 
The minister also met Chairman of European Asian Technology & Investment Mr Gruff Ottavio Quattrocchi from Italy and party who called at his office at 2 pm today.

Chairman of Gold Smart Garments Ltd Mr Luke Wang of Hongkong and party also called on Minister U Aung Thaung at 3 pm today.They discussed construction of a cement factory in Kyaukse and a pharmaceutical factory in PyinOoLwin.

Also present at the call were Deputy Ministers for Industry-1 Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, directors general and managing directors.


(6) Seminar on Possibilities of Myanma Hand-Woven Textile Products Export to Japan held
 
YANGON, 16 Dec-The seminar on Possibilities of Myanma Hand Woven Textile Products Export to Japan, jointly organized by the Yangon-based office of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Cottage Industries Departments, was held at the Traders Hotel this morning.

Present on the occasion were heads of Cottage Industries Department, Cooperative Department and Cooperative Export and Import Enterprise, Managing Director of Yangon-based office of JETRO Mr Yoshihiro Araki and officials, chairmen and personnel of producers cooperative societies, weaving industry entrepreneurs, guests and proprietors of textile shops.

Managing Director Mr Yoshihiro Araki and Director-General of Cottage Industries Department Col Sein Than made speeches President of Shoku International Mr Takehiko Maki explained possibilities' of exporting Myanmar hand-woven textile products to Japan.


(7) MAs from Malaysia conclude visit

YANGON, 16 Dec - A study group comprising foreign military attaches to Malaysia led by Dean of Military Attaches to Malaysia Military Attache of Republic of Korea to Malaysia Col Yoo Young Guen and their families left here by air this morning.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by senior Tatmadaw officers and military attaches of foreign mission.


(8) Union of Myanmar Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Announcement No 1487  9th Waxing of Nadaw 1361 ME (16 December 1999)

Subject:  Permission given to U Hsan Nyunt Wai to resign as Pyithu Hluttaw representative elected from Patheingyi Township Constituency-1 in Mandalay Division

1.  U Hsan Nyunt Wai of the National League for Democracy, Pyithu Hluttaw representative elected at the Multiparty Democracy General Election from Patheingyi Township Constituency-l in Mandalay Division, submitted of his own volition to this Commission that he.be permitted to resign because of ill health.

2.  Upon the above-mentioned submission, this Commission hereby announces that U Hsan Nyunt Wai has been permitted to resign from being Hluttaw representative-elect of Patheingyi Township
Constituency-l effective today under Section 11
(e) of the Pyitu Hluttaw Election Law.

(9) Nearly 40,000 eligible voters of Ayadaw submit petitions expressing no confidence in NLD representative-elect U Bala

YANGON, 16 Dec -A total of 39,953 eligible voters of Ayadaw Township Constituency-2, Sagaing Division, submitted signed declarations expressing no confidence in U Bala elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of National League for Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Ayadaw Township Constituency-2 and no support for him at the rallies held in Magyikan, Kyundaw, Naung Gyiai, Wadawma and Okshitkyi Villages of the township on 25 November morning.

A total of 2,639 local people of surrounding villages rallied at Magyikan Village Merchant U Lay Maung from Magyikan Village tract, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Bala of National League for Democracy and no support for him.  Then, farmer U Thaung Hla from Magyikan Village presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Bala and no support for him signed by voter to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Ba Myint.

Altogether 3,348 local people of surrounding villages rallied at Kyundaw Village.  Farmer U Myint Swe from Okshitgyi Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Bala of National League for Democracy and no support for him.  Then, farmer U Myint Than from Kai Village presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Bala and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tin San.

Altogether 4,911 local people of surrounding villages rallied at Naung Gyiai Village.  Farmer U Pyay Aye from Naung Gyiai Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Bala of National League for Democracy and no support for him.  Then, farmer U Chit Thein from Bonletkhat Village presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Bala and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Hla Kyi.

About 3,500 local people of surrounding villages rallied at Wadawma Village.  Teacher (Retired) U Htay Maung from Wadawma Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Bala of National League for Democracy and no support for him.  Then, farmer U Kyaw Shwe from Yayyo Village presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Bala and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Than Hla.

A similar ceremony was held at Okshitkyi Village. A total of 2,453 local people attended the rally. Farmer U Shwe Win behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Bala of National League for Democracy and no support for him.  Then, farmer U Aung Than from Okshitkyi Village presented declarations expressing no confidence in U Bala and no support for him signed by voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Aung Hla.

Out of 4?,,992 eligible voters of Ayadaw Township Constituency-2, 16,305 or 37.92 per cent voted for U Bala of NLD in 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election.

The number of voters who presented signed petitions of no confidence in U Bala totalled 39,9,53 or 91.32 per cent.



(10)73 members resign from Ngaputaw Township NLD
 
YANGON, 16 Dec-A ceremony to present resignation letters of seventy-three members of National League for Democracy in Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyawady Division, was held at Sanchaung Sin Owebo Village, Ngaputaw Township, on 28 July 1999.

Seventy-three members of NLD from Ngayantchaung Village-Tract in Ngaputaw Township, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngayantchaung Village-Tract Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-committee Office and the party concerned on 28 July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

NLD member U San Bo from Sanchaung Sin Owebo Village explained the resignation from NLD and presented resignation letters to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Win Myint.
