He said it conformed to Myanma traditions to honour the literati, who had served the interests of own country and national cause of own race with literary might, by presenting literary awards on this auspicious Sarsodaw Day on the 1st Waxing Day of Nadaw and moreover, it would contribute towards the endeavours made by the Government to preserve, safeguard and promote literary and cultural heritage and national characters.

Similarly, throughout Myanmar literary history, literati with clear national outlook had fine traditions of promoting the race, language and religion and preserving national characters and presentation of literary awards today is to encourage and support the present day literati and new generation literati to continue to preserve and promote them.

In retrospect, it can be seen that high standard of literary skills flourished for years countable by the thousand.  The literati had created literary works dealing with worldly affairs, dhamma affairs, kingly affairs and cultural affairs in their profound and extensive literary styles like ratu, rakan, eh, an, loota, pyo, lanka and prose, the public on their part followed the instructions and guidance of the literati while the ancient monarchs duly honored the literati; as such the monarch, the public and the literati were closely united thereby establishing the high standard of civilized Myanmar society in grandeur.

Ancient monarchs were found to have extended due recognition to the martial prowess and mental wisdom of the people and honored them; the public also took interest in literature and culture and as such many personalities of outstanding martial prowess and mental wisdom had emerged in succession throughout Myanmar history; that was why the national States respected by neighboring nations had been established.
