(1)Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and  party leave for Manila to attend Third ASEAN Informal Summit
 
YANGON, 27 Nov - At the invitation of President of the Republic of the  Philippines Mr Joseph Ejercito Estrada and wife, Chairman of the State Peace  and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Prime  Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing  Kyaing and party left here by special aircraft at 8 am today to attend the  Third ASEAN Informal Summit and the Meetings of the ASEAN Heads of  State/Government and Heads of State/Government of the People’s Republic of  China, Japan and the Republic of Korea scheduled to be held in Manila, the  Philippines, on 28 November 1999.
 
The Senior General and wife and party were accompanied by Secretary-1 of the  State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin  Win Shwe and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win.


(2)Provisions donated to monasteries in Dagon, Sangyoung Townships
 
YANGON, 27 Nov - Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers  donated provisions to 22 monasteries in Eindawya Compound in Dagon Township,  Yangon West District, at 9 am today.

The ceremony was held at Dagon Pariyatti Sarthintaik on Myoma Kyaung Road and  attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of  Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The congregation received the Five Precepts from Chairman of Township Sangha  Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Dagon Township Kaba Aye Kyaungtaik  Sayadaw Bhaddanta Revata.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party presented offertories to Sayadaws.

Member of Central Committee of the Sangha Presiding Sayadaw of Dagon  Pariyatti Sarthintaik Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Gunananda delivered a  sermon.
 
A similar ceremony was held Dhamma Zedi Shwekyin Kyaungtaik on Shin Saw Pu  Road in Sangyoung Township this morning.

Congregation received the Five Precepts from Member of Township Sangha Nayaka  Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Dhamma Zedi Shwekyin Kyaungtaik Sayadaw  Bhaddanta Panavara.

The Secretary-2 and party presented offertories to the members of the Sangha.

Next, Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers presented  provisions to Presiding Sayadaw.
 


(3) Secretary-2 inspects construction of Aungzeya Bridge
 
YANGON, 27 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected construction of Aungzeya Bridge project which will  link Hlinethaya and Insein Townships this afternoon.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials arrived at the construction site of  Aungzeya Bridge project on the bank of Insein Township at I pm today and  inspected progress of construction work.

Project Superintending Engineer of Public Works reported to the Secretary-2  on construction of approach structures on the bank of Insein and, Hlinethaya  Townships and construction of the piers of the main bridge.

Managing Director of Public Works presented supplementary reports.

Then, Deputy Minister for Transport, member of Yangon City Development  Committee, Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and Development Council  and Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council reported to the  Secretary-2 on the assistance provided by the departments concerned, health  and arrangements for ensuring work site safety at the project.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave necessary instructions on work site safety and  timely completion of the project.

Blue and white collar staff of Public Works are striving with added momentum  for timely completion of the bridge which is 3,786 feet long.

About 78 per cent of construction work has been completed.


(4)Broadcasting educational lessons with application of data broadcasting system through MRTV demonstrated
 
YANGON, 27 Nov - A demonstration on broadcasting educational lessons with the  application of data broadcasting system via Myanma Radio and Television was  presented at the Myanma Radio and Television on Pyay Road this morning.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung,  Minister for Education, Deputy Minister, directors-general, the chief  engineer, rector, pro-rec-tor, directors, professors and officials.
 
Making a speech on the occasion, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung said the Ministry  of Information provided assistance for the programmes of the Ministry of  Education as much as it can. Educational lessons are being broadcast by MRTV.

The minister explained ways which can be used at the lowest cost in promoting  the education system with the application of the data broadcasting system.

Computer Adviser at the Ministry of Information explained data broadcasting  system and Chief Engineer plans to be carried out by applying data  broadcasting system .

Deputy Minister and officials of the Ministry of Education raised queries  about detailed facts on the plans and gave suggestions.
 
On the occasion, Minister also said broadcasting technologies, which will  assist education programmes, benefit the nation and thanked the Ministry of  Information for helping the programmes of the Ministry of Education in anyway.


(5)Minister for Culture inspects restoration of ancient pagodas in Bagan
 
YANGON, 27 Nov - Minister for Culture U Win Sein, accompanied by  Director-General of Archaeology Department and officials, inspected  restoration of ancient pagodas in Bagan on 26 November.

First, the minister inspected renovation of the southern wall of Laymyathna  Kyaungtaik in Minnanthu Village which was destroyed by torrential rain  between 26 October and 6 November this year and gave instructions for timely  completion of the work according to the original style.
 
The minister then inspected inflow of water to the lake in the precinct of  Hsinbyushin Kyaungtaik where a natural museum will be built, planting of  trees for greening and restoration works at Okkyaungs (Brick Monasteries) No  698 and No 691 and Pagodas No 820 and No 761.

He also inspected Pagodas No 843, No 1094, No 1095 which have been renovated  cent-per-cent and restoration works of wall paintings in Ngahla-thin Cave.
 
A total of 1039 pagodas in Bagan cultural heritage region have been renovated  so far, and there are still 19 pagodas under renovation and 117 remain to be  renovated.


(6) Commander inspects development, agricultural works  in Sagaing, Shwebo Districts

YANGON, 27 Nov - Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council  Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, accompanied by members of  Division Agricultural Supervisory Committee and departmental officials,  inspected progress in construction of the two-storey building of Yonbinkan  Basic Education Primary School, with the aid of Sagaing Division Peace and  Development Council, in Sagaing Township, on 24 November morning.

Then, the commander went to Gandhamamyaing Sanpya Parahita School in Hsadaung  Village-tract and paid obeisance to Buddha images and replicas to be  enshrined at Lawkananda Pagoda. The commander made donations and inspected  the construction site of the pagoda.

In the afternoon, the commander inspected paddy harvesting and winnowing at  Hsadaung village in Sagaing and Ywathagyi village in Wetlet.

The commander proceeded to Magyiphyu Dam in Wetlet. Chairman of Shwebo  District Peace and Development Council and Director of Sagaing Division  Irrigation Department reported on tasks relating to the dam.

 Afterwards, the commander inspected paddy harvesting and winnowing at  Aungchantha, Kinbya, Zee-gonlay and Okshitkon villages in Shwebo and attended  to their needs.

Shwebo District cultivated 750000 acres of monsoon paddy. So far, farmers of  the district have harvested 114.325 acres of monsoon paddy.


(7) 54 members resign from Natmauk Township NLD

YANGON, 27 Nov - Fifty-four members resigned from National League for  Democracy of Natmauk Township, Magway Division.

Fifty-four members of Natmauk Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own  volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Natmauk Township  Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on  28 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics  of NLD.
