(1)Secretary 1 inspects drug dependency treatment and rehabilitation campand attends opening of multimedia teaching centre in Pyay

YANGON, 19 Nov - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by ministers, deputy ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads and officials, left here by Tatmadaw aircraft this morning and arrived at Pyay in Bago Division at 8.30 am.

The Secretary-1 and party went to Drug Dependency Treatment and Rehabilitation Camp (Shwepyitha) in Pyay, Bago Division.

They were welcomed there by department heads, district and township authorities, the camp in-charge, training instructors and officials.

The Secretary-1 heard a report on functions of the camp presented by Minister for Home Affairs.Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the drug treatment unit.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 met with trainees and spoke words of encouragement.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party toured the camp, and went back to Pyay.

Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony to open multimedia teaching centre of Basic Education High School No 3 in Pyay, Bago Division.The Secretary-l also unveiled the sign-board to mark the opening of the multimedia teaching centre.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the computer aided instruction room, E-mail and local area network, the presentation media room, the audio visual media room, the printed media room, the aided system media room, the domestic science and arts room, the painting room and the music
room.

Next, a ceremony to mark the opening of the multimedia teaching centre was held in the school hall.Then, the Secretary-l signed in the school record book.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party, members of PTA and SBT, the headmaster and staff and school children had photographs taken.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party went to Yadana Man-haung Tawya Kyaungtaik in Pyay, and paid respects and offered alms to Presiding Sayadaw of Kaba Shweyinaye Sayadaw Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Vijjabala.The Secretary-l and party arrived back here in the evening.


(2) Secretary-2 watches goodwill basketball match between Myanmar and PRC

YANGON, 19 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo watched the goodwill basketball match between Myanma Tatmadaw basketball team and Jinan Military Command basketball team of People's Liberation Army of the People' s Republic of China at the National Indoor Stadium No1 in Thuwunna this evening.Also present on the occasion were Chief of Staff (Navy) Commodore Kyi Min, Vice-Adjutant-General, senior Tatmadaw officers (Army, Navy, Air) of Ministry of Defence, military attaches of foreign embassies in Yangon, Leader of PLA Basketball Team Senior Col Jiang Zhong Yu and members of Jinan Military Command of People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China and guests.


(3)USDA CEC members meet Japanese delegation

YANGON, 19 Nov - A 22 member delegation of Tsugashima International Friendship Association led by Mr Seizi Imaizumi of Japan who was a war veteran, met with members of the Central Executive Committee of Union Solidarity and Development Association at USDA Headquarters this morning.

Present on the occasion were USDA CEC members U Than Shwe, U Saw Tun, U Aung San, Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and Brig-Gen Thein Aung and officials.

USDA CEC member U Than Shwe explained aims and objectives organizational set-up and matters relating to the association and tasks being carried out for development of youths.

Then, Japanese delegation members explained matters pertaining to their visits to Myanmar and Myanmar youths who are pursuing various courses in Japan.


(4)Basic demography course and computer course of Population Dept concluded

YANGON, 19 Nov - The closing ceremony of Basic Demography Course No1 and Basic Computer Course No 4 of the Population Department was held at the training hall of the department on Maha Bandoola Street this morning in conjunction with the opening ceremony of Data Processing Programming Course.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun, Deputy Minister, Director-General of the Immigration and National Registration Department, Director-General of the Population Department, deputy directors-general, directors, deputy directors and course instructors.

Making a speech on the occasion, the minister said at a time when endeavours are being made for emergence of a peaceful, tranquil, modern and developed nation, it is important to systematically collect and keep data on population in implementing long and short-term plans.

Every staff of the department is required to know basic demography and basic computer science, to practically apply their knowledge and to always study to improve efficiency, he said.

The minister presented prizes to outstanding trainees.


(5)US $ 10,000 for religious buildings at Lumbini Park

YANGON, 19 Nov - The donation ceremony for religious buildings at Lumbini Park in Nepal was held at the hall of Ministry of Religious Affairs this morning.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana and officials.

Minister U Aung Khin explained matters related to religious buildings at Lumbini Park. He then accepted US $ 10,000 donated by U Maung Maung Hein and brothers and sisters of 21, Thirimingala Road, Kamayut Township, in memory of parents.

The minister presented the certificate of honour to the well-wishers and spoke words of thank.


(6.)Minister meets Japanese entrepreneurs

YANGON, 19 Nov - Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Mr Keiichi Jimbo and party of Ko Ko Ro Co Ltd of Japan who called at his office this afternoon.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister, Director-General of Directorate of Trade, Director-General of Border Trade Department and officials.


(7) Minister meets GM of (H.E) Elite Finance Limited

YANGON, 19 Nov - Minister at the Sate Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office and Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung met General Manager of (H.E) Elite Finance Limited of Hong Kong Ms Pen hong Yu and party who called at MIC Office at 11 am today.Also present at the call were officials of Investment and Companies Administration Department.


(8)Donations for MMCWA, sixth billionth birth baby

YANGON, 19 Nov - Nestle Foods (Thailand) Ltd presented milk powder and nutritious food worth K 76,000 for All-round Development Centre for Children to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) at the MMCWA building this morning.

Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA (Central) Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, officials and well-wishers.

First, Economic Manager in Myanmar Mr Trevor Reckerman of Nestle Foods (Thailand) Ltd explained the purpose of the donation and presented milk powder and nutritious food worth K 76,000 to Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe.Then, Mr Trevor Reckerman and Managing Director Mr Naresh Komar of Vimpex Ltd presented nutritious food and gifts worth K 70,000 to Ma Hnin Oo Wai who was chosen as the six billionth birth baby and her parents.

Later, Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe thanked the well-wishers.


(9)33 members resign from Minhla Township NLD

YANGON, 19 Nov-Thirty-three members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Minhla Township, Bago Division.

Thirty-three members of Minhla Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 21 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
