(1)Senior General Than Shwe inspects construction and agricultural activities in Ayeyawady DivisionYANGON, 16 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe inspected construction and agricultural activities in Ayeyawady Division after attending the inauguration of Bo Myat Tun Bridge across Ayeyawady River on 15 November.
The Senior General inspected construction of Pantanaw Bridge. Deputy Superintending Engineer and officials of Special Group 12 of the Bridge Construction Project reported on progress of work.
The Senior General then gave guidance.
The Senior General and party inspected Pantanaw-Wakema Road and Pantanaw-Einme Road.
The Senior General inspected the reclamation of wetland and cleaning of flotsam and met officials.
Altogether 5,487 acres were permitted to be reclaimed by two companies.
Monsoon and summer paddy and summer sesamum were cultivated on the land.
In the afternoon, the Senior General and party inspected Pantanaw-Einme Road and Einme. The Senior General and party spent the night in Pathein.
This morning, the Senior General and party inspected development of Pathein.
Senior General Than Shwe met senior military officers of South-West Command, members of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council, Chairmen of District Peace and Development Councils in the division, members of Supervisory Committee, State Peace and Development Council, Chairmen of District Peace and Development Councils in the division, members of Supervisory Committees for Progress of Ayeyawady Division Agriculture and Production and entrepreneurs who engaged in reclamation of lands at Ayeyawady Hall of South-West Command.
In his guidance, Senior General Than Shwe said the government has paid special attention to development of national entrepreneurs after laying down the correct policies.
He spoke of the need for the entrepreneurs to carry out the tasks for the nation with goodwill. He said the entrepreneurs are to make efforts perseveringly without depending on the State only.
The Senior General Than Shwe cordially met those present.
At 1 pm, Senior General Than Shwe and party left Pathein by car and inspected Pathein-Myaungmya High-way.
The Senior General then went to Myinkaseik Village, Kangyidaunt Township, where he inspected the site for building a bridge across Panmawady River to link Kangyidaunt and Myaung-mya townships.
The Senior General gave guidance.
The Senior General and party then inspected the site chosen for building a new bridge across Darka River to replace Darka Bridge on Darka-Einme Road.
At 5 pm, the Senior General and party went to Nyaungdon (South) Natural Gas Field in Nyaungdon Township.
The Senior General gave guidance on the report and inspected Well No 2 there.
Afterwards, the Senior General left there for Yangon.
(2)Rice, provisions presented to Sayadaws of Kyaungtaiks in Pathein
YANGON 16 Nov - A ceremony to present rice and provisions to Sayadaws of Kyaungtaiks in Pathein, Ayeyawady Division, was held at Sasana Beikmandawgyi in Pathein at 8.40 am today, attended by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe.
It was also attended by Ovadacariya Sayadaws of 45 Kyaungtaiks in Pathein, the Yekyi Mingalakyaung Sayadaw, members of the Central Working Committee for the Sangha, the Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Sangha Nayaka Committee and member Sayadaws, Township Ovadacariya Sayadaws and chairmen of Township Sangha Nayaka Committees and member Sayadaws.
The congregation recited Namotassa thrice in the opening of the ceremony.
Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Sangha Nayaka Committee Laymyathna Kyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Paninda administered the Five Precepts.
Then, Senior General Than Shwe offered rice and provisions to State Ovadacariya Yekyi Mingalakyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Indobhasa.
Next, the Senior General and party and the congregation received a sermon delivered by Lecturer Sayadaw of Myaungmya Pariyatti Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Pannasiri (Dhamma,cariya), followed by sharing of merits.
Later, the congregation recited ,Buddha Sasanam Ciran Titthatu thrice and the ceremony came to a close.
(3)Cottage Industries Exhibition 99 opened
YANGON , 16 Nov - Cottage Industries Exhibition 99 was opened in front of Cottage Industries Department in North Okkalapa Township this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint.
The exhibition was held with the aims of informing the people of conditions of cooperative industries, enabling industries to unite, developing industrial production technology and disseminating knowledge about industries, economic affairs and management.
Then, the Secretary-l, and the Secretary-3 viewed the exhibition.
A ceremony to mark the opening of the exhibition was also held in the meeting hall of Cottage Industries Department.
(4)Secretary-1 attends opening of Multimedia Teaching Centres in basic education schools
YANGON, 16 Nov - Donation ceremony for construction of new building forNo 5 Basic Education Primary School was held at the school in Dagon Township this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Secretary-l accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the donors.
In his address, the Secretary-l called for uplift of education of school children and preservation of Myanmar traditional culture, patriotism and Union spirit.
The Secretary-l signed in record book of the school.
Afterwards, the Secretary-l and the guests watched the singing of the schoolchildren.
The Secretary-l, members of PTA and School Board of Trustees, Headmistress, teachers and schoolchildren had a photo session.
A ceremony to open Multimedia Teaching Centre was held at No 4 Basic Education High School in Botahtaung Township this morning.
The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the signboard of the centre.
The Secretary-l then inspected computerized media section, listening room, educational broadcasting service centre, demonstrative media section, audio visual teaching section, education promotion programme showroom, arts room and music room.
Afterwards, well-wishers made donations for Botahtaung Township B.E.H.S 4.
The Secretary-1 accepted the donations.
The Secretary-l signed in the visitors' book and then had a photos session together with the faculty members of the school and the students.
In the afternoon, the ceremony to open the multi-media teaching centre of San-gyoung Township Basic Education High School No 1 was held at the school.
The Secretary-l attended it and formally unveiled the signboard of the classroom.
He then inspected study room, demonstrative media section, computer and E-mail section, educational broadcasting service centre, art room, painting room and domestic science room.
Well-wishers made donations for the school.
The Secretary-l accepted the donations and then gave a speech.
He had a photo session with the faculty members of the school, members of the School Board of Trustees and the students.
The same ceremony of Mayangon Township Basic Education High School No 5 was held at the school.
The Secretary-l formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia teaching centre of the school and then inspected listening and reading skill section, demonstrative teaching and learning media section, educational broad-casting system, computerised teaching and learning section, Yatha (painting) room, Yatha (music) room and domestic science room.
The Secretary-l accepted the donations.
In giving speeches at the ceremonies, the Secretary-l. urged members of SBTs, well-wishers, and teachers to work all together to be able to open the multimedia teaching centres at the schools which do not yet have then.

YANGON, 16 Nov - Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung met Executive Vice-President of Ingeror Co of France Mr Jean-Paul Baillet and party who called at his office at noon today.
(6)Minister meets MD of Tokyo Stock Exchange
YANGON, 16 Nov - Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Managing Director of Tokyo Stock Exchange (Singapore Branch) of Japan Mr R Kimura and party who called at his office at 9.30 am today.
Also present at the call was Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.
(7)Myanmar-Japan cultural exchange ceremony held
YANGON, 16 Nov - The Myanmar-Japan cultural exchange ceremony, jointly organized by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) and Women' s Federation for World Peace of Japan, was held at MMCWA (Central) building at the corner of Parami and Thanthuma Roads in South Okkalapa Township this morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMC WA (Central) Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chair-person Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, members of Central Executive Committee, the chairperson, the vice-chair-person of Women's Federation for World Peace of Japan and members.
Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe extended greetings.
Chairperson of Women's Federation for World Peace of Japan Mrs Fumi Katayama spoke words of thanks.
Mrs Fumi Katayama donated two knitting machines.
Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe accepted the donations and presented a certificate of honour to the well-wisher.
Afterwards, Mrs Fumi Katayama presented donations to Kyauktan Township MCWA.

(8)Coord meeting held on selling goods of ministries on market ships
YANGON, 16 Nov - A coordination meeting on selling goods produced by ministries on board the market ships operated by Inland Water Transport was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Transport this afternoon.
Present on the occasion were Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister , Managing Director of IWT, departmental heads of ministries concerned and officials of IWT.
First, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe gave a speech.
Then, Managing Director reported on operating the market ships and departmental heads of ministries concerned on sales of various kinds of goods produced by their respective ministries.
Afterwards, Deputy Minister took part in the discussions.
Later, Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe gave the concluding remarks.
(9)52 members resign from Momauk Township NLD
YANGON, 16 Nov - Fifty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Momauk Township, Kachin State.
Fifty-two members of Momauk Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 26 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
