(1)Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing attend tenth communal Kathina robs offering ceremony of family of Defence  Services Intelligence

YANGON, 14 Nov - The tenth communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of the familyof Defence Services Intelligence was held at Defence Services Dhammayon on ArzaniRoad at 9.30 am today, attended by Chairman of the State Peace and DevelopmentCouncil Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wifeDaw Kyaing Kyaing.

It was also attended by State Ovadacariya Sayadaws, Chairman of the State Sangha MahaNayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidlhaja Agga Maha SaddhamrnaJotika Myingyan Koehsaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita and member Sayadaws andmembers of the Sangha.

First, the congregation recited Namotassa thrice in the opening of the ceremony.

Then, Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and the congregationreceived the Five Precepts from Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha NayakaCommittee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru ,Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma JotikaHinthada Ledi Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Khamarvuda.   Next, members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

Afterwards, the Senior General and wife offered  Kathina robes and provisions to State Ovadacariya Maha Aungmyebonkyaw Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Agga Maha PanditaBhaddanta Nayaka of Bahan Township and Chairman of the State Sangha Maha NayakaCommittee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma JotikaBhaddanta Sobhita.

The Senior General and wife and party shared merits gained after receiving a sermon delivered by Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja MahaSaddhamma Jotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara.

Later, the congregation offered 'soon' to Sayadaws who attended the Kathina robesoffering ceremony.

YANGON, 14 Nov - The following is a translation of the address by Lt Gen Khin Nyunt,Secretary-1 of the StatePeace and Development Council, at the prize distribution of Seventh Myanmar TraditionalCultural Performing ArtsCompetition at the National Theatre today.

Lt Gen Khin Nyunt made a statement . He said that he would like to exhort all the artistes --

--to strive by means of their artistic talents for continued graceful flourishing of Myanmarpeople's own culture, arts and national characteristics that have flourished splendidly foryears countable by the thousand

-- to strive by means of their artistic talents for preservation of Myanmar people's firm andprofound historical traditions and their grand high-level culture for eternity

-- to strive by means of their artistic talents to strengthen immunity based on national spiritin young people of the new generation to ward off the danger of alien cultural infiltration.

(3)Secretary 1 presents prizes to winners of Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition

YANGON, 14 Nov - The prize presentation ceremony of Seventh Myanmar TraditionalCultural Performing Arts Competition was held at the National Theatre on Myoma KyaungRoad this afternoon, with an address by Patron of the Seventh Myanmar TraditionalCultural Performing Arts Competition Secretary-1 of the State Peace and DevelopmentCouncil Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The State - sponsored competition was held here with six objectives to rekindle in all thenationals' patriotism and nationalist fervour; to uphold and safeguard Myanmar culturalheritage; to continue to promote and propagate Myanmar music, Myanmar dancing andgenuine Myanmar performing arts; to uplift Myanmar national character; to contributetowards spiritual development of youths; and to guard against influence of the alien culture.

Patron of Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Secretary-1of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an address.(Reported separately)

Then, the Secretary-1 presented first, second and third prizes to winners in men' sprofessional level, men's amateur level, men's higher education level, boys' basic educationlevel (age 15-20), boys' basic education level (age 10-15) and boys' basic education level(age 5-10) in Maha Gita song event.


(4)CREIC holds prize presentation ceremony of second short story,  article, song, poem, cartoon, painting and poster competition

YANGON, 14 Nov - The prize presentation ceremony of the second short story, article,song, poem, cartoon, painting and poster competition of the Crime Reduction, Education andInformation Committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs was held at Aungthabye PoliceYeiktha on Kyaikwaing Phaya Road in Mayangon Township this morning, addressed bySecretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

In his address, the Secretary-2  urged all to organize the people to keep a security vigil and toactively participate in the crime reduction work together with the police members.

The Secretary-2 presented prizes to winners of the short story event.


(5)Minister for Industry-1 inspects No 1 Marble Factory in Loikaw

YANGON, 14 Nov - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, Managing Director ofMyanma Ceramics Industries and officials, inspected No.1 Marble Factory in Loikaw on 13 November.

The minister gave instructions on running of the factory, quality of finished products anddistribution of products to the people at reasonable price.

The minister offered flowers and lights at Thiri Mingala Taungdaw Taungkwe Pagoda.

He donated K 300,000 for renovation of the pagoda.

The minister inspected production of raw materials branch of No.1 Marble Factory inLawpita. He met service personnel there.

In the afternoon, the minister met members of Pinlaung Township Maternal and ChildWelfare Association and presented K 20,000 to the association.

The minister, together with Deputy Commander of Eastern Command and officialsinspected Daunglaik Cement Plant in Tikyit in Pinlaung Township and raw materials.Director-General of the Ministry of Science and Technology reported on construction ofthe cement plant .

The minister and party inspected herbal plantations of Myanma Pharmaceutical Industriesin Heho.

Director-General of Myanma Pharmaceutical Industries reported on arrangements forextended plantations.


(6)Minister inspects Tyre and Rubber Factory No.1

YANGON, 14 Nov - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Tyre and Rubber Industries arrived at No 1 Tyre andRubber Factory in Thaton, Mon State, on 12 November, where they welcomed by GeneralManager of the factory and officials.

In the briefing hall, the minister met with officials and gave instructions on drawing plans tomeet the target, making more concerted efforts without taking day-off on Sunday for thenational development, conducting on-job training courses and giving priority to staff welfare.

This morning, the minister and party inspected production process of the factory, machineryarrived from abroad and sheds.

Meeting with officials, the minister urged them to dutifully carry out the tasks given, tostrictly follow rules and regulations and to make study while taking over responsibilities withattachment to the factory.

The minister and party then inspected men and ladies hostels, sports ground for kids andstaff welfare video hall.


(7)Vietnamese People's Army delegation leaves

YANGON, 14 Nov - The Vietnamese People's Army delegation led by Lt-Gen NguyenHuy Hieu left here by air this morning.

The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Chief of Armed ForcesTraining Maj-Gen Win Myint, Director of Military Training Brig-Gen Aung Kyi and seniorTatmadaw officers, Charge d' Affaires ai of Vietnamese Embassy Mr Nguyen Dinh Tangand Military Attache Sr Col Nguyen Ngou Lu.


(8)31 members resign from Myittha Township NLD

YANGON, 14 Nov - Thirty-one members resigned from National League forDemocracy of Myittha Township, Mandalay Division.

Thirty-one members of Myittha Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition,resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myittha Township Multiparty DemocracyGeneral Election Commission and the party concerned on 13 July 1999 as they no longerwished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(9)37 members resign from Gyobingauk Township NLD

YANGON, 14 Nov - Thirty-seven members resigned from National League forDemocracy of Gyobingauk Township, Bago Division.

Thirty-seven members of Gyobingauk Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition,resigned by sending letters of resignation to Gyobingauk Township Multiparty DemocracyGeneral Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 20 September 1999 as theyno longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
