    (1)Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing attend 46th Communal  Kathina of the Ministry of Defence

    YANGON, 13 Nov - The 46th Communal Kathina of the Ministry of Defence was  held at the new hall of the Ministry of Defence this morning, attended by  Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of  Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing.

    The congregation received the Five Precepts from Vice-Chairman of the State  Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha  Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Khamarvudha Members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

    Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing presented offertories to  Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru  Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita.

    Next, Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha  Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Maha Visuta Yama Taikthit  Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a sermon and Senior General Than Shwe and  wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing shared merits gained. After the ceremony, Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing  offered ‘soon' to the members of the Sangha.


    (2) Deputy Commander in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)  meets Vietnamese Deputy Chief of Staff

    YANGON, 13 Nov - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council
    Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)  General Maung Aye met the Vietnamese People's Army delegation led by Deputy  Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu, at the guest house of the Ministry of  Defence at 5 pm today.

    Also present at the call were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development  Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies Director of Defence Services  Intelligence, Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army)  Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General, Deputy Prime Minister and  Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General, members of the State  Peace and Development Council Commander-in Chief (Air) and Chairman of Yangon  Division Peace and Development Council Commander and Chief of Armed Forces  Training.

    The Vietnamese delegation was accompanied by Charge d' Affaires ai of  Vietnamese Embassy Mr Nguyen Dinh Tang and Military Attache Senior Col Nguyen  Ngoc Lu.


    (3)PBANRDA personnel urged to fulfil main requirement of national brethren in  border areas

    YANGON, 13 Nov - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt met officials of the Ministry of Progress of Border Areas  and National Races and Development Affairs at the meeting hall of Development  Affairs Department in Botahtaung Township this afternoon.

    Present on the occasion were the ministers, Minister for Progress of Border  Areas and National Races and Development Affairs, officials of the State  Peace and Development Council Office, the directors-general, deputy  directors-general of departments under the Ministry of Progress of Border  Areas and National Races and Development Affairs, chairman of the bank, the  principal, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and staff  officers.

    In the statement made by the Secretary-l, he urged all to regard the works for development  of border areas and national races as national duties which can effectively  contribute towards efforts for the further strengthening and flourishing of  national solidarity, perpetuation of the Union, harmonious development of all  the border areas, elimination of narcotic drugs and improvement of living  standard of regional national races.


    (4)Tatmadaw families, well-wishers offer provisions to Sarthintaiks in  Yankin, Tamway

    YANGON 13 Nov - Tatmadaw families of (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers  donated rice to Five Nikaya Sasana Beikman, Maha ,Candasuriya and Aungchantha  Kyaungtaiks in Yankin Township at Five Nikaya Sasana Beikman Kyaungtaik this  afternoon.

    Present on the occasion were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development  Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen  Tin Oo. The Secretary-2 and party offered provisions to the Sayadaws.

    Well-wishers also donated provisions to Padana Nayaka Sayadaws of three  Kyaungtaiks.

    Administrator Sayadaw of the Kyaungtaik Bhaddanta Pannasihabhivamsa delivered  a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.



    (5)Japanese war veterans donate K 100,000 to ITBMU

    YANGON, 13 Nov - War veterans Mr Take Saburo Mashimo and Dr Tasuku Iida of  Japan donated K 100,000 for International Theravada Buddhist Missionary  University at Dhammapala Hill in Mayangon Township this afternoon.

    Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin accepted the donation and  presented a certificate of honour to the donors.

    Present on the occasion were Deputy Director-General of Religious Affairs  Department, Pro-Rector (Admin) of ITBMU, Head of Office and officials.

    The well-wishers visited the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary  University.


    (6)Vietnamese People's Army delegation tours Mandalay, Magway Divisions

    YANGON, 13 Nov - Visiting Deputy Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu and  party of Vietnamese People's Army, accompanied by Director of Military  Training of the Ministry of Defence Brig-Gen Aung Kyi, toured Mandalay and  Magway Divisions of Central Command area yesterday and today.

    The guests left for Bagan-NyaungU by Tatmadaw air-craft yesterday morning.  They were welcomed at the airport by Chairman of Magway Division Peace and  Development Council and officials.

    Then, the Vietnamese People' s Army delegation paid obeisance to Shwezigon  and Ananda Pagodas and made donations for the pagodas.  They visited Myanmar Lacquerware Institute and Bagan Archaeological Museum. The guests proceeded to Mandalay. Deputy Commander of Central Command and  departmental officials welcomed them at the airport. Commander of Central Command met the guests at Tatmadaw Guest House in  Mandalay Nandwin.

    The Vietnamese delegation visited Myanansankyaw Shwenandaw, Shwenandaw  Cultural Museum, Theingi Shwewa Silk-Production and embroidery works and paid  obeisance to Hsutaungpyay Pagoda on Mandalay Hill. In the evening, Commander hosted dinner in honour of the guests.

    This morning, the guests paid obeisance to Maha Muni Buddha image and made  donations. Then, they went to Defence Services Academy in PyinOoLwin. Deputy
    Commandant and officials conducted them round the academy.  At Tatmadaw Technological University, Commandant explained facts about the  university.

    The guests left Mandalay by Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived back here this  evening.


    (7) Management, clerical staff courses conclude

    YANGON, 13 Nov - The management course No 1/99 and clerical staff course No  1/99 concluded at the training school of Education and Training Department in  Dagon Myothit (North) Township yesserday, with an address by Minister for  Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein  Nyunt.

    Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister, directors-general and  officials of departments under the ministry.

    Sixty staff officers of State, Division and Township Development Affairs  Departments attended the management course and 60 service personnel attended  the clerical staff course. The courses lasted six weeks.


    (8)Yangon bustling with festive activity on holiday

    YANGON, 13 Nov - Pagodas were crowded with members of the Sangha and devotees  and recreation centres and parks with holiday makers; and people went  shopping at department stores, plazas and markets today. Devotees and monks paid obeisance to Buddha images in Botahtaung and Mailamu  Pagodas. Holiday-makers visited the People's Park and People's Square and  Shweyinbyin.


    (9)30 members resign from Thayetchaung Township NLD

    YANGON, 13 Nov - Thirty members resigned from National League for Democracy  of Thayetchaung Town ship, Taninthayi Division.

    Thirty members of Thayetchaung Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their  own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Thayetchaung  Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party  concerned on 29 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in  party politics of NLD.


    (10)15 members resign from Naungmon Township NLD

    YANGON, 13 Nov - Fifteen members resigned from National League for Democracy  of Naungmon Township, Kachin State.

    Fifteen members of Naungmon Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own  volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Naungmon Township  Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on  16 October 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of  NLD.
