    (1) Secretary-1 visits high schools, inspects development projects in Sagaing, Mandalay

    YANGON, 10 Nov - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party, accompanied  by members of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander and Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander, left Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin for Sagaing by Tatmadaw helicopter on 9 November.

    The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed in Sagaing by military and civil service officials and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association.

    A ceremony to open Multimedia Classroom was held at No 3 Basic Education High School in Sagaing, was held with an address by Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

    The Secretary-1 unveiled the stone plaque of the Multimedia Classroom.

    The Secretary-l and party inspected projected media room, computer skill room, audio room, audio-visual room, computer aided instruction room, broadcasting room, handicraft room and music room.

    A ceremony to open Multimedia Classroom was held at No 2 Basic Education High School in Sagaing.

    The Secretary-l unveiled the stone plaque of the Multimedia Classroom.

    The Secretary-1 and party inspected audio-visual room, control room, domestic science room, audio room and aesthetics room.

    Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said the multimedia classrooms were opened with the participation of people in implementation of education promotion programmes. The government is implementing the education promotion programmes for uplift of all-round education of the students and to ensure education of international standard with the cooperation of the School Board of Trustees, he said.

    The Secretary-l said the education promotion programmes are successful due to the students' learning of lessons with enthusiasm, active participation of the School Board of Trustees and leadership of the teachers.

    He urged the School Board of Trustees, teachers and local authorities concerned to make efforts for opening of more multimedia classrooms.

    The Secretary- 1 then signed in the visitors' books of No2 and No3 BEHSs.

    The Secretary-1 and party went to the site for construction of Sagaing Division Institute of Education.

    The Secretary-l then gave instructions. He inspected the construction site.

    The Secretary-l and party went to Thitagu Aryudana Hospital on Sagaing Hill. They paid respects to members of the Sangha led by Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Agga Maha Pandiata Maha Dhammakahtika Bahujana Hitadhara Bhaddanta Nanisara (Thegon) Sayadaw.

    The Sayadaw explained about water donation for Sagaing Hill and treatment at Aryudana Hospital. The Secretary-1 and party  paid obeisance to the Buddha images.The Secretary-l and party observed Sangha ward, emergency ward and ward for eye treatment.The Secretary-l signed in the visitors' book of the Aryudana Hospital.

    The Secretary-1 and party went to Maha Waiyanbontha Bagaya Kyaungdawgyi in Amarapura where they inspected preservation of ancient palm leaves and parabaiks for durability. The Secretary-l paid respects to the Buddha images. The Secretary-l and party paid respects to ancient Buddha images in Bagaya Kyaungdawgyi. They arrived at Nanmyo guest house.

    In the evening the Secretary-1 and party paid obeisance to Maha Muni Yokeshindawmyat and offered Shwethingan to the pagoda.The Secretary-1 and party paid respects to Yaydaw Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panavamsa.

    A ceremony to open Multimedia Classroom was held at No 14 Basic Education High School in Mandalay this morning.The Secretary-l unveiled the stone plaque of the Multimedia Classroom.

    A similar ceremony was held at No 4 Basic Education High School in Mandalay. The Secretary-l unveiled the stone plaque of the Multimedia Classroom. The Secretary-l and party inspected audio visual room, computer aided instruction room, projected media room, computer skill room, domestic science room, art studio, and aesthetics room.

    Next. the Secretary-l signed in visitors' book of the No 14 BEHS.The Secretary-l, members of the School Board of Trustees, members of PTA, school heads and students had photo taken.The Secretary-l and party went to the National Theatre in Mandalay and inspected it.The Secretary-l then gave instructions.The Secretary-l and party went to Children's Hospital in Mandalay where they were.The Secretary-1 inspected major renovation of 300-bed Children's Hospital and wards for children.They arrived back here in the evening.


    (2)  Secretary -1 attends foundation laying ceremony for construction of three storey building at Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik

    YANGON, 10 Nov - A .ceremony to lay foundation for construction of three storey building to mark centenary birthday of Maha Gandayon Sayadawgyi Ashin Zanakabhivamsa was held at Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik in Amarapura, Mandalay Division, at 7.30 am today, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

    Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party received the Five Precepts from Presiding Sayadaw of Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik Agga Maha Pandita Maha Dhamma Kathika Bahujana Hitadhara Bhaddanta Indalabhivamsa.

    Members of the Sangha recited the Parittas.

    Afterwards, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented golden casket and offertories to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kundalabhivamsa.

     Then, Bhaddanta Kundalabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

    Members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association of Amarapura Township conveyed the golden casket and corner-stones to the foundation.

    A ceremony to lay corner-stones for the construction of three-storey building was held.

    Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt placed the golden casket and plaque into the foundation.

    After the ceremony, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party performed the ritual of golden and silver shower to mark the success of the ceremony.


    (3) Secretary-2 meets Vietnamese People's Army,delegation

    YANGON, 10 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo received Vietnamese People' s Army delegation led by Deputy Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu at Zeyathiri Beikman on Konemyinttha at 9.am today.

    A1so present together with the Secretary-2 were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander, Chief of Staff (Navy) Commodore, Chief of Armed Forces Training, Director of Military Training and Colonel Air Staff (Air).

    The delegation was accompanied by Charge d' Affaires ai of of the Vietnamese Embassy Mr Nguyen Dinh Tang and
    Military Attache Senior Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Lu.


    (4) Secretary-2 hosts dinner in honour of Vietnamese People's Army delegation

    YANGON, 10 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo hosted dinner in honour of Vietnamese People's Army delegation led by Deputy Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu at Tatmadw Guest House No 2 on Innya Road at 7 pm today.

    Present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander, senior Tatmadaw officer(Army, Navy, Air), Charge d' Affaires ai of the Vietnamese Embassy Mr Nguyen Dinh Tang and Military Attache Senior Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Lu.


     (5) Deputy  Prime Minister meets Director/Senior GM of Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance  Co

    YANGON, 10 Nov - Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin met Director and Senior General Manager of Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Co Ltd of Japan Mr Ken Taki and party who called at his office at 3 pm today.

    Also present at the cal1were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office and Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission and officials.


    (6) Myanmar delegation leaves for 30th FAO Conference

    YANGON, 10 Nov -Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin left here by air this morning for Italy to attend the 30th FAO Conference of UN in Rome, Italy.

    The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Minister for Mines, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation, Ambassador of Italy to Myanmar Dr Cesare Capitani and directors-general and managing directors and officials of the ministry.



    (7) President of SEAMEC and party arrive

    YANGON, 10 Nov - Four-member goodwill delegation led by President of Education Ministers Council of South-East Asia(SEAMEC) and Minister of Education of Singapore Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean arrived here by air this evening.

    The delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Education U Than Aung and wife, Deputy Ministers and, directors-general of departments under the ministry, Charge d' Affaires ai of Embassy of Singapore Mr William Chick Kam Weng and officials of the embassy .


    (8) Vietnamese People's Army delegation visits Shwedagon Pagoda and Museums

    YANGON, 10 Nov - The Vietnamese People's Army delegation led by Deputy Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu, accompanied by Director of Military Training Brig-Gen Aung Kyi, visited Memorial to Fallen Heroses at 8 am today.

    Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu and party saluted and laid a flower basket in tribute to the fallen heroes.Lt-Gen Nguyen Huy Hieu and delegation toured the Memorial to Fallen Heroes and signed in the visitors' book.

    The delegation went to the National Museum on Pyay Road at 11 am today. The Vietnamese delegation then observed the song competition at Seventh Myanma Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition at the museum.

    The delegation visited the Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road at 2 pm. Director of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute and officials conducted the delegation round the museum.

    The delegation then visited the Shwedagon Pagoda and made a donation for the pagoda fund.


    (9) 73 members resign from Kyaiklat Township NLD

    YANGON 10 Nov - Seventy-three members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kyaiklat Township, Ayeyawady Division.

    Seventy-three members of Kyaiklat Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letter of resignation to Kyaiklat Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 18 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
