      (1)President of Republic of Indonesia arrives  on friendly visit

      Y ANGON, 7 Nov - At the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, President of the Republic of Indonesia His Excellency Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid arrived at Yangon by special aircraft this morning on a friendly visit to the Union of Myanmar.

      Also present at the airport to welcome the distinguished guests were students waving miniature flags of the two countries and chanting slogans for friendship between the two countries.

      The special aircraft carrying the goodwill delegation led by Indonesian President Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid, arrived at the Yangon International Airport at 9.30 am.

      The Indonesian President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah were welcomed by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, and the Senior General presented his entourage to the visiting Indonesian President and Madame.

      The Indonesian President and the Senior General were greeted by heads of diplomatic missions of the ASEAN countries in Yangon and wives, officials and families of the Indonesian Embassy.

      The Indonesian President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah and members of the Indonesian delegation accompanied by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing then proceeded to Inya Kantha State House in a motorcade.

      They were greeted at the airport and along the way to the State House by thousands of students wishing the Indonesian President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah and Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing good health and hailing Myanmar-Indonesian friendship.

      Along the road outside the airport and along University Avenue up to the entrance to Inya Kantha State House, the Indonesian President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah and members of the delegation were welcomed by members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, teachers, students, members of Township Maternal and Child Welfare Associations and Red Cross Brigade, nurses and the people numbering over 10,000 waving miniature flags of the two countries and chanting slogans hailing friendship between the two countries.

      Archways and huge signboards welcoming the distinguished guests in both Myanmar and English were put up at the entrance of the Yangon International Airport, on Pyay Road, on Inya Road and at the entrance of the State House.

      The flags of the two countries were flown along the route from the airport to the entrance of the State House and at Inya Lake, Kamayut Junction, Hanthawady Roundabout, U Wisara Roundabout and the People's Square.

      The Indonesian President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah and Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing arrived at Inya Kantha State House at 10 am.

      Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing cordially greeted the Indonesian President and Madame.  The Indonesian President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah were accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Alwi Shihab and other senior officials.

      YANGON, 7 Nov - President of the Republic of Indonesia Mr Abdurrahman Wahid called on Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe at Sein-Le-Kantha State House at 10.30 am today.

      President of the Republic of Indonesia Mr Abdurrahman Wahid was accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Alwi Shihab, high-ranking officials and Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Mr Nasaruddin Mochtar Koro.



      (3)Senior General Than Shwe hosts luncheon in honour of President  of Republic of Indonesia Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and party

      YANGON, 7 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe hosted luncheon in honour of President of the Republic of Indonesia Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and members of the delegation, who were on a friendly visit here, at Sein-Le-Kantha State House at noon today.



      (4)Indonesian President Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah leave after friendly visit

      YANGON, 7 Nov - At the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, President of the Republic of Indonesia Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid and delegation paid a friendly visit to Myanmar and left here by special flight this afternoon.

      Before departure from here, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing cordially met Indonesian President Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid at Inya Kantha State House at 1.45 pm today.

      Then, Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing together with the Indonesian President Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid left Inya Kantha State House for Yangon International Airport in a motorcade.

      Members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, teachers, students, members of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Red Cross Society, nurses and people totalling over 10,000 bade fare-well to the guests waving miniature flags of the two countries and chanting slogans for strengthening of friendship between the two countries.

      The President and Madame Sinta Nuriyah together with Chairrnan of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing arrived at Yangon International Airport at 2.05 pm  today.

      Later, Indonesian President Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahrnan Wahid cordially bade farewell again to Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing.

      Indonesian President Mr Abdurrahman Wahid and Madame Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid and delegation left here by special flight at 2.20 pm.

      From the VIP Lounge of Yangon International Airport, Senior General Than Shwe and party waved farewell to the guests.

      (6)Basic Accountancy Course opened in Taunggyi

      YANGON, 7 Nov - A ceremony to open Basic Accountancy Course No 3 for Taunggyi and Loilem Districts and Kalaw region of Shan State (South), organized by Shan State (South) Union Solidarity and Development Association, was held at Town Hall in Taunggyi yesterday.

      Present on the occasion were member of the Panel of Patrons of USDA (Central) Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo.

      First, Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo gave a speech.

      Then, the commander and the member of the Secretariat had a cordial meeting with USDA members and trainees.



      (7)Thottithena Thambula marionette drama competition continues

      YANGON, 7 Nov - The Thottithena Thambula marionette drama competition of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continued at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road at 7 pm today.

      Marionette troupe of Mon State took part in the competition.

      Present on the occasion were member of Panel of Patrons of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Vice-Chairman of Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Culture, members of Leading Committee, Chairman of Work Committee for the Competition Commander of No 3 Military Region, members of Work Committee, officials of Sub-committees, Ambassador of France to Myanmar, competitors and spectators.

      On 8 November, marionette troupe of Yangon Division No 2 Group will take part in the competition.



      (8)Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continues

      YANGON, 7 Nov - The Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continued for 13th day-at the designated venues today.

      Member of Panel of Patrons of the Performing Arts Competition Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and Minister for Transport, Vice-Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Culture, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command, school heads of basic education high, middle and primary schools, students and enthusiasts including tourists.

      The song competition was held at the National Theatre on Pyay Road in Dagon Township.

      Chairman of Panel of Judges of the song competition Assistant Director (Music) of Myanma Radio and Television, Secretary Assistant Engineer and members supervised the competition.



      (9)Attorney-General back from Singapore

      YANGON, 7 Nov - A Myanmar delegation led by Attorney-General U Tha Tun arrived back here by air this evening after attending the Fourth Meeting of ASEAN Law/Justice Ministers and Attorneys-General and the Eighth Meeting of ASEAN High-ranking Officials of Law Affairs in Singapore.

      Members of the delegation-Director-General of Supreme Court, Deputy Director-General of Attorney-General's Office (Mandalay Branch) and Assistant Director of Attorney-General's Office-also arrived back.



      (10)54.87 kilos of opium seized in Phakant Township

      YANGON, 7 Nov - Opium weighing 54.87 kilos were seized from a house in Bazanchaung Village, Pha-kant Township, Kachin State, on 8 October.

      The authorities comprising members of Defence Services Intelligence Unit and Myanmar Police Force first searched the house of U Win Lon (a) Law Hsan and his wife Daw Phan Yan Kyi at 51, Ward 1, in the village.

      The authorities did not find any narcotic drugs in the house but they saw the husband trying to conceal a key chain. The authorities seized it and unlocked the house next door to U Win Lon's.

      They uncovered 51 packets of opium in the house which belongs to U Kyan Kyint Yo and Daw Yar Lint.

      Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.


      (11)62 members resign from Letpadan Township NLD

      YANGON, 7 Nov - Sixty-two members resigned from National League for Democracy of Letpadan Township, Bago Division.

      Sixty-two members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Letpadan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 29 July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.



      (12)87 resign in Ngaputaw Township NLD

      YANGON, 7 Nov - Twenty-nine members resigned from National League for Democracy of Myittha Township, Mandalay Division.

      Twenty-nine members of Myittha Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myittha Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 13 July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
