(1) Work coordinated for opening of Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary   Kyaungdawagyi

YANGON, 5 NOV - A coordination meeting between the Panel of Patrons for Organizing the Opening of Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary Kyaungdawgyi and the Leading Committee was held in the meeting hall of the Kyaungdawgyi in Natchaung Ward, Tamway Township, this evening.

Patron of Organizing the Opening of Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary Kyaungdawgyi Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed the meeting.

In his address, the Secretary-l said the Government has established International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University for the propagation and flourishing of the Theravada Buddhist Sasana.

Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary Kyaungdawgyi is being built under the patronage of the Government and with the contributions of well-wishers with a view to carrying out missionary work more conveniently and teaching historical trends, culture and traditions of other countries practically.

The Secretary- 1 also urged committees to coordinate work for the systematic opening of  Kyaungdawgyi in December.Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe and Chairman of Upahtaka Executive Committee Col Saw Myint (retired) reported on arrangements for opening of the Kyaungdawgyi and formation of sub-committees.Then, a general round of discussions followed. In replying to their reports, the Secretary-l gave instructions on their work.


(2) Well-wishers donate over K 4.5 million to Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary  Kyaunadawgyi Project

YANGON, 5 Nov-Donations were presented for building the Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary Kyaungdawgyi this afternoon at the Kyaungdawgyi in Tarmway Township, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt

Managing Director of Asia World Construction Company U Tun Myint Naing reported progress in building the
Kyaungdawgyi, Chairman of the Fund Raising Work Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa on financial matters, Col Saw Myint (retired) on the aim of building the Kyaungdawgyi, the situation of the foreign missionary services of Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panfiavamsa of Penang-Singapore Kyaung and arrangements to open the Kyaungdawgyi.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said the Kyaungdawgyi would be opened in December as scheduled. The splendid large building with Myanmar style decorations will be a pride for Yangon City. The Kyaungdawgyi which will bring out missionary Sayadaws will be of great assistance to the Sasana.

After the donation ceremony, Secretary-1 and party inspected progressi construction of Maha Thantithukha Buddhist Missionary Kyungdawgyi.


(3) Thottithena Thambula marionette drama competition continues

YANGON, 5 Nov-The Thottithena Thambula marionette drama competition of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continued for the third day at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road this evening. Thottithena Thambula marionette drama troupe No 1 of Yangon Division took part in the competition. In the evening tomorrow, Thottithena Thambula marionette drama troupe of Ayeyawady Division will take part in the competition at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road.


(4) National entrepreneurs urged to cultivate crops as projected  on allotted land

YANGON, 5 Nov - The Leading Committee for Region-Wise Development of the Agriculture Sector (Development of Taninthayi Division) held a meeting at the Directorate of Defence Services Ordnance Services this afternoon, addressed by Chairman of the Leading Committee Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo said in accordance with the soil and weather conditions of Taninthayi Division, efforts are being made in permitting national entrepreneurs to tame thousands of acres of land for cultivation with the aim of effectively assisting with the national edible-oil-sufficiency project, extending the cultivation of rubber, producing a sufficient amount of rice in Taninthayi Division and ensuring regional progress.

Of the 19 entrepreneurs who have been allotted land to cultivate oil palm, 13 have already put over 6,000 acres under oil palm. Companies should cultivate crops year-wise on the allotted land in line with their proposed three-year or five-year projects. The government is ready to render assistance to the entrepreneurs.

Secretary of the Leading Committee Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung reported on the lands which have been allotted to national entrepreneurs to cultivate oil palm, rubber and paddy, actual sown acreage and transport of farm machinery to Taninthayi Division. Ministers, deputy ministers and heads of departments looked into the requirements sector-wise.National entrepreneurs then presented the extent of land which has been allotted to them, progress in land reclamation, cultivation of crops and future programmes. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended to the needs, speaking of the need to work with might and main in implementing the land reclamation projects during the open season.


(5) Secretary-2 and Secretary-3 attend Goodwill volleyball match

YANGON, 5 Nov -The Volleyball Team of Chendu Military Region of the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China and Myanmar Tatmadaw Volleyball Team played a goodwill volleyball match at the National Indoor Stadium-l in Thuwunna this evening. It was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Defence Services Sports and Physical Administration Committee Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and special guests.


(6) Minister inspects No 1 Cigarette Factory

YANGON, 5  Nov- Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung, accompanied by Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, inspected NO 1 Cigarette Factory on Mezigon: Street, Hline Township, this morning.

Factory Manager U Ye Tint reported to the minister on production process, requirement of raw  materials and distribution,  followed by a supplementary report of Managing Director U Kyaw Myint of Myanmar Foodstuff Industries.The minister gave instructions on exceeding the production target, making efforts to seek markets for quality products, and practising thrift.

Afterwards, the minister went round the factory and gave instructions on systematic purchase transport and storage of raw materials.Then, the minister went to Soap Factory No 2 of Myanmar Pharmaceutical Industries, on Yangon-Insein Road, Hline Township, inspected storage of raw materials and gave instructions on production of quality Shwewa soap. He also met factory workers in the hall of the factory.


(7) Two ivory carvings donated to Ministry of Culture

YANGON,5 Nov  - Kyon Mwedaw Kyaungtaik Sayadaw U ,Candima of Pindaya, Shan State, donated two ivory carvings with Buddha images, each with the length of 3.5 feet, to Ministry of Culture this morning, attended by Minister for Culture U Win Sein. Minister U Win Sein accepted the two ivory carvings and presented a certificate to the Sayadaw.

Film Director U Kyee Myint explained the maintenance of the ivory carvings and the purpose of the donations. Later, the minister spoke words of thanks.


(8) Marching and military song competitions to be held

YANGON, 5 Nov-Marching and military song competitions will be organized by the Work Committee for Holding Poem and Literary Competitions in commemoration of the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day which falls on 27 March.

The songs are to be composed featuring the 12 objectives of the State, the objectives of the 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day and the 12 fine traditions of the Tatmadaw.


(9) Minister inspects construction of toll gate and road

YANGON, 5 Nov -Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, together with officials of Public Works, inspected construction of the toll gate on Yangon-Pathein Highway this morning.The minister and party were conducted around the worksite by Superintending Engineer U Aung Kyaw Myint and officials.

The minister gave instructions on arrangements to enable vehicles to pass through the toll gate safely, installation of machinery at the toll gate and keeping the toll gate clean and tidy.

Then, the minister and party inspected building of Takwe-Kazan Road, linking Maubin-Hsamalauk Road and the approach road of Bo Myat Tun Bridge (Nyaungdon). It is three miles and  five furlongs long.Senior Engineer of Road Special Division: 16 U Ye Tun and officials reported on progress of work.

The minister gave instructions on meeting the set standard in building the road, systematic use of machinery and timely completion of I construction work, and inspected the-project.

YANGON, 5 Nov-Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Director of Fritz Werner  Company of Germany Mr Christ and party who called at his office at 9.30 pm today.


(11) Minister meets Counsellor of PRC

YANGON, 5 NOV-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Embassy of People's Republic of China Mr Lin Jian,who had completed his tour of duty, and party at his office at 10.30 am today.


(12) Deputy Minister observes harvesting of  monsoon paddy

YANGON, 5 Nov-Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, accompanied by officials and local farmers, observed harvesting monsoon paddy with the use of farming machine in Thabyedan Village, Yedashe Township, Bago Division, on 4 November.


(13) Use of Panasonic PABX Exchange communications accessories demonstrated

YANGON, 5 Nov-A ceremony to demonstrate the use of Panasonic PABX Exchange communications accessories manufactured in Japan, sponsored by Myanma Posts and Telecommunications, Kyaw Zeyar Telecommunication Services Co Ltd and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd (Japan), was held at Communications and Postal Training Centre on Lower Pazundaung Road this morning.

Managing Director Dr Naing Win of Kyaw Zeyar Telecommunication Services Co Ltd extended greetings.Mr Kwek Chin Teng of Matsushita System Division (Singapore) of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd (Japan) demonstrated use of Panasonic PABX Exchange communication accessories.

Officials answered queries raised by the minister and departmental heads.Then, Minister Brig-Gen Win Tin, Director Brig-Gen Aung Myint and departmental heads looked round the Panasonic PABX Exchange communications equipment.


(14) 52 members resign from Palaw Township NLD

YANGON, 5 Nov-Fifty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Palaw Township, Taninthayi Division.

Fifty-two members of Palaw Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Palaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 7 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(15) Seven members resign from TadaU Township NLD

YANGON, 5 Nov-Seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of TadaU Township,  Mandalay Division. Seven members of TadaU Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of  resignation to TadaU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 19 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of  NLD.
