(1) Myanmar to host meetings of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the PacificYANGON, 4 Nov - A meeting was held this afternoon to coordinate hosting of the 12th Administrative Counci1Meeting and the 20th Executive Committee Meeting of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia andthe Pacific (CIRDAP) in Myanmar. Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyuntdelivered an address at the meeting which was held at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army).
Also present at the meeting were ministers, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation, the director-general of theState Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department and officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary- 1 said Myanmar will host the 12th Administrative Council Meeting and the20th Executive Committee Meeting of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia an,d the Pacific(CIRDAP). Thirteen nations including ASEAN member countries will attend the meetings of CIRDAP, which willhelp develop the agriculture sector. The present meeting was held for Myanmar to successfully host the meetings of CIRDAP.
The CIRDAP meetings will be hosted in Yangon and Bagan; and coordination should be made from all sectors toensure that t,here are no defects or weak points in hosting them. Study tours should be made for the delegates to themeetings to witness in person the objective conditions of Myanmar's agricultural and rural development, peace andstability and conservation of cultural heritage.
As the Central Committee for Hosting the CIRDAPMeetings has already been formed, the respective ministerswho are members of the Central Committee should make collective efforts for the success of the meetings.
Director-General of Agricultural Planning Department Dr Mya Maung reported on reception and accommodation ofthe delegates, transport, hosting of the meetings and organizing of study tours. Those at the meeting gavesuggestions. The Secretary-1 delivered the concluding address.
(2) Thottithena Thambula marionette drama competition continues
YANGON, 4 Nov-The Thottithena Thambula marionette drama competition of the Seventh Myanmar TraditionalCultural Performing Arts Competition continued for the second day at the National Theatre on Myoma KyaungRoad this evening.Thottithena Thambula marionette drama troupe of Mandalay Division took part in the competition. Present on theoccasion were Patron of the Performing Arts Competition Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development CouncilLt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Chairman of Leading Committee for Organizing the Competition member of the State Peaceand Development Council,work committee and subcommittees, competitors and spectators.
(3) Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continues
YANGON, 4 Nov-The events of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition atdifferent levels continued at the designated venues here today.
Patron of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Secretary-l of the State Peaceand Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Chairman I of Organizing Leading Committee for the SeventhMyanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Member of the State Peace and Development Counciland guest.
The song competition was held at the National Museum, the dance competition at the National Theatre, thecomposing competition at the Kanbawza Theatre, and the music competition at Padonma Theatre.
In the song competition at the National Museum, 15 competitors took part in men's professional religious songevents and 16 in girls' basic education level (15-20) old and modern song competition.
In hashing competition, nine troupes took part in professional level events and four in higher education level events.On 5 November, single events of hashing competition at professional and basic education levels will be held.
(4) Secretary-1 receives Minister ofCommerce of ROK
YANGON, 4 Nov-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Minister of Commerce Mr Han Duck-Soo of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Commerce, the Republic of Korea, and.party who called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this morning.
(5) Clothes and Personal Goods Market Festival '99 opens

YANGON, 4 Nov- Clothes and Personal Goods Market Festival '99 opened at the Tatmadaw Convention Hallwith the help of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute of the Ministry of Defence and with thearrangement made by Quartz International Co Ltd.The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo,Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and DevelopmentCouncil . Managing Director of the company U Aung Aung extended greetings to the guests, and Daw Thida Thant,Director of New Link Co Ltd, spoke words of thanks on behalf of local and foreign companies.
Director of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute Col Ye Htut and Director U Win Naing Ooformally opened it. The Secretary-2 and guests went round the market festival.It is held with the aim of makingsystematically manufactured products known to the people, exchanging technical know-how and sharing experiencebetween local and foreign entrepreneurs, not losing sight of advanced manufacturing and packaging systems, seekingmarkets, and having good foundations for building of a new nation.Variety items of clothes, designs and personal andhousehold goods are on display at the market festival.A total of 70 local and foreign companies and organizationsare participating in it. It opens till 7 November. Anyone may visit it free of charge.
(6) Secretary-2 attends ceremony to mark opening of enamel paint factory .
YANGON, 4 Nov-A ceremony to mark the opening of Sunflower brand enamel paint factory of MoetaungdanIndustrial Co Ltd was held at the Traders Hotel on Sule Pagoda Road this evening in conjunction with an exhibitionon enamel paints.
The Secretary-2 and guests viewed sample of the paints at the exhibition.U Yang Shin Naung, chairman of thecompany, explained about Sunflower enamel paint and Daw Thida Swe of MRTV arrangements for production anddistribution.The factory is located on Hlinethaya Industrial Zone 2.
Sunflower paint is manufactured with the application of modern technology. Arrangements are under way to makethe paints available at the same price anywhere in the country. There is also a free programme to teach buyers howto use the paints.
(7) Military Attaches and family members visit Taunggyi, Pindaya and Innlay in EasternCommand region
YANGON, 4 Nov -Military Attaches and family members led by Head of Department Col Thein Swe of Officeof Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defence and Dean of Military Attaches in Myanmar Bangladesh MilitaryAttache Brigadier Nasiruddin Sarwar, together with Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-l of the State Peaceand Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Daw Khin Than Nwe, wife of Secretary-2 of the State Peace andDevelopment Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Daw Khin Swe Nyunt, wife of Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen KyawThan, arrived back here by air this evening after visiting Taunggyi, Pindaya and Innlay. The group left here by air on2 November morning.
They arrived at Heho Airport where they were welcomed by Daw Khin Lay Myint, wife of the Commander ofEastern Command, Deputy Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Myint Thein and wife Daw Mya MyaThan, senior Tatmadaw officers and officials.
The group, accompanied by Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Myint Thein, left for Pindaya. They were welcomedat Aung Naingthu Hotel in Pindaya by Tactical Operations Commander Col Khin Maung Soe and local residentsMilitary Attaches and family members visited the environs of Aung Naing-thu Hotel and had photos taken. Then,the group, visited Buddha images in ShweUmin Cave. Members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees explained historyof the pagoda. The family members made donations for the pagoda and offered flowers, water and lights to theBuddha images.
Then, the group stopped over in Taunggyi and spent the night there. The study group visited Nyaungshweyesterday morning.The military attaches and families went to Innlay lake and studied the way of life of local residentsand agriculture works on floating islands in the lake.
(8) Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control holds meeting
YANGON, 4 Nov-Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control held meeting 3/99 at the Ministry of Home Affairsthis afternoon, with an address by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing.Also present on the occasion were Vice-Chairmen of CCDAC Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung andMinister or Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Chairman ofWork Groups Supervisory Committee Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, deputyministers, Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and others.
Police Maj-Gen Soe Win reported on accomplishments concerning the resolutions of CCDAC meetings, Minister UWin Aung on use of Internet and web site systems and Minister Col Thein Nyunt on the ministry's commitmentsconcerning the eradication of drugs and international cooperation. Participants then took part in the discussions. Themeeting ended with concluding remarks by the CCDAC Chairman.

(12) Minister of Commerce of ROK calls on ministers
YANGON, 4 Nov -Visiting Minister of Commerce Mr Han Duck-Soo of Ministry of Foreign Affairs andCommerce, the Republic of Korea and party, called on Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung at Zizawa Yeikthaof the ministry at noon today.
Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung hosted Lunch in honour of the visiting minister and party at ZizawaYeiktha in the afternoon. Then, the visiting minister and party called on Minister at the State Peace and DevelopmentCouncil Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel at his office at 2 pm today.

(13) Dipavali commemorative celebrations
YANGON, 3 Nov - Myanmar-India Business Club in Yangon sponsored the celebrations marking the Dipavaliday for 1999 and the new year celebrations at Hotel Equatorial at 7 pm yesterday.Mr Om Prakash extendedgreetings.
Minister U Aung Khin and Ambassador Mr Shyam Saran and wife lighted the oil lamps marking the Dipavli Day.Ambassador Mr Shyam Saran gave a speech.Dinner was hosted.
(14) 27 members resign from Banmauk Township NLD
YANGON, 4 Nov-Twenty-seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of BanmaukTownship, Sagaing Division. Twenty-seven members of Banmauk Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their ownvolition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Banmauk Township Multiparty Democracy General E1ectionCommission Office and the party concerned on 27 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
(15) 17 members resign fromDedaye Township NLD
YANGON, 4 Nov-Seventeen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Dedaye Township, Ayeyawady Division. Seventeen members of Dedaye Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition,resigned by sending letters of resignation to Dedaye Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office andthe party concerned on 20 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
