Military Attaches leave for Taunggyi Pindaya and Innlay in Eastern Command regionhttp://www.myanmar.com/For Editor NEWSLIGHT@aol.com>YANGON, 2 Nov-Military Attaches and family members led by Head of Department Col Thein Swe of Office of Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defence and Dean of Military Attaches in Myanmar Bangladesh Military Attache Brigadier Nasiruddin Sarwar, together with Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Daw Khin Than Nwe, wife of Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Daw Khin Swe Nyunt, wife of Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than,.left here by special flight this morning to visit Taunggyi, Pindaya and Innlay in Eastern Command region. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence.
______________________________________________________2. Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continues for eight day
YANGON, 2 Nov- The Seventh Myanmar Trading Cultural Performing Arts Competition continued for the eighth day at the designated venues today. The song competition was held at the Nationa1 Museum on Pyay Road in Dagon Township, dance competition at the National Theatre on Myoma, Kyaung Road in Dagon Township, practice for composing competition at Kanbawza Theatre on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Bahan Township and music competition at Padonma Theatre on Bagaya Road in Sangyoung Township and Kanbawza Theatre. Present on the occasion were Patron of Organization the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt - Gen Tin Oo, member of the sub-committees, officials and enthusiasts including tourists.
____________________________________________3. Yangon Mandalay market boat begins service with 1,400 tons of merchandise
YANGON, 2 Nov-Carrying nearly 1,400 tons of goods, one of Yangon-Mandalay market boats left here this morning- to begin its sales run on Ayeyawady River. Named "Myananda", the boat left Nanthida Port to enable people of towns and villages on the Ayeyawady bank to buy various kinds of goods produced in upper Myanmar and lower Myanmar at reasonable prices.
Before its departure, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected the boat at 9 am, giving suggestions to officials for the betterment of its services.Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe and Managing Director of Inland Water Transport U Tun Aung Myint reported to the Secretary-2 on operation of the boat.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo said Annyahsan (upriver) boats which sold foodstuff and personal goods produced in the regions of lower Myanmar along the Ayeyawady were famous in the past. People of towns and villages along the bank had to wait for the ship's arrival as they could buy goods produced in upper Myanmar and lower Myanmar at fair prices.
_________________________________________________4. Commander inspects cultivation work, bridge construction
YANGON, 2 Nov-Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, accompanied by departmental officials, arrived at vacant, fallow, virgin and wetlands reclamation project office of Construction Group No 6 of Irrigation Department in Bodi Wetland of Pantanaw Township on 30 October morning.
Officials reported to the commander on control of water supply for cultivation in east Bodi, west Bodi and Yegyaw wetlands and cultivation work being undertaken by nine private entrepreneurs groups in the wetlands. The commander attended to their needs.
The commander and party then inspected Pantanaw Bridge Construction Project. Officials reported on progress of the bridge and requirements. The commander also inspected finishing touches of Bo Myat Tun Bridge. On arrival at the project office of Olympic Co and First Top Co in Mogok-Deedok wetland, officials of the company reported on completion of 1,366 acres of monsoon paddy cultivation, preparation for 2,000 acres of summer paddy cultivation and works to be done. The commander attended to their requirements and inspected farm machinery.

YANGON, 2 Nov-The Ramayana Drama Competition of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continued for the eighth day at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road this evening. Yangon Division Ramayana drama troupe No 1 took part in the competition.Patron of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the competition. At 7 pm tomorrow, Magway Division Thottithena Thambula marionette drama troupe will take part in the competition at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road.
_________________________________________6. Myawady Bank opens branch in Monywa
YANGON, 2 Nov-A ceremony to open Myawady Bank branch was held at the branch office on Bogyoke Aung San Road in Sulegon Ward in Monywa on 26 October, attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win. Then, the commander pressed the button to open the sign-board of the branch and inspected the building.
Afterwards, a ceremony to mark the opening of the branch was held at Town Hall of Monywa.,The commander gave a speech. Brig-Gen Win Hlaing presented a commemorative pennant to the commander and the deputy governor of CBM.

YANGON 2 Nov-Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin met Deputy General Manager Mr Wang De Xin of Tianjin NEC and party who called at his office this morning. Present on the occasion were Managing Director of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications U Maung Maung Tin, General Manager U Tha Oo and officials.

YANGON, 2 NOV-Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung received Dr Agostino Borra, the newly appointed WHO Resident Representative in the Union of Myanmar Myanmar at the ministry this morning.
Dr Agostino Borra presented his credentials from Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, Director-General of WHO. He expressed his wish to further promote cooperation between the Union of Myanmar and WHO. WHO will support the Government of the Union of Myanmar in the implementation of the national health strategy adopted by the Government of the Union of Myanmar in line with the global and regional. "Health for All" strategies established collectively by the Member States of the Organization.

YANGON, 2 Nov-Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, accompanied by Assistant Chief Engineer U Aung Koe Shwe of the Myanma Electric Power Enterprise and Adviser U Tin Shein, arrived at Thaphanseik Hydel Power Project on 30 October. In the briefing hall, Project Officer U Ngwe Tun reported to the minister on the project, and the minister presented gifts to foreign experts and project staff. The minister then inspected installation of equipment there and gave instructions. Meeting personnel of the project, the minister spoke of cooperating among departments in endeavours for development of the nation, making efforts with the application of their knowledge and skills, meeting the set standards, making coordination with foreign experts, fulfilling machinery requirement, practising thrift, and carrying out staff welfare programmes.

YANGON, 2 Nov- Department/procedures course No 6 for Service Personnel sponsored by the Border Trade Department was opened at the department this morning with an address by Minister for Commerce Brig- Gen Pyi Sone. The department is paying special attention to development of overland trade, it opened nine border trade posts including one in Myeik and it has plans to open more border trade posts, he said.The courses like the present one are being opened one after another as personnel who will be assigned at the border trade posts are required to have good conviction, discipline and skills, he added. A total of 60 trainees are attending the five-week course.

YANGON, 2 Nov- A Myanmar delegation led by Attorney-General U Tha Tun left here by air this morning to attend the Fourth Meeting of ASEAN Law/ Justice Ministers and Attorneys-General and Sixth Meeting of High-ranking Officials of ASEAN Law Affairs in Singapore.The delegation includes Director-General U Tin Aye of Supreme Court, Deputy Director-General U San Tha Kyaw of Attorney-General's Office (Mandalay branch) and Assistant Director U Win Myint of Attorney-General's Office.

They discussed training of local and foreign trainees in Myanmar lacquer-ware course at Myanma Lacquer-ware Institute in Bagan, exchange of observation in lacquer techniques between Myanmar and Germany, training for German trainees in Myanmar and donations and stipends for Myanmar Lacquer-ware Institute and trainees.

YANGON, 2 Nov-Thirty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Division.Thirty-two members of Laymyethna Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned
by sending letters of resignation to Laymyethna Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 29 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

YANGON, 1 Nov - Twelve members resigned from National League for Democracy of Natogyi Township, Mandalay Division. Twelve members of Natogyi Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters resignation to Natogyi Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 7 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
