(1)    Secretary-1 meets youth delegation of Japan and South-East Asian countries

YANGON, 1 Nov - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt met Administrator Mr Komagata Kenichi of the 26th Ship for Southeast Asia Youth Programme 1999 sponsored by Youths Affairs Management and Cooperation Agency of the Prime Minister's Office of Japan and youth leaders of nine South-East Asian countries and  Japan at Yeikthathit of the Ministry of Defence office afternoon. Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and the guests exchanged gifts. The Secretary-1 also posed for photo together with the guests.

(2)    Secretary-1 and wife attend Ramayana Drama  Competition

YANGON, 1 Nov - The Ramayana Drama Competition of the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition continued for the seventh day at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road this evening. Yangon Division Ramayana drama troupe No 2 took part in the competition.

Patron of Organizing the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe attended the competition.

(3)    Hninzigon Home for the Aged gets Thiri Yadana Hall

YANGON, 1 Now- - A ceremony  Thiri Yadana Hall of Hninzigon Home for the Aged in Bahan Township was held at the hall this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. First, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo , Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Chairman of Management Board of the Home U Maung Tin formally opened Thiri Yadana Hall.Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa gave a speech.

Afterwards, a ceremony to donate rice of Tatmadaw families and well-wishers was held at the hall. Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party donated provisions to the Sayadaws.

(3)    Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services' Cup Tatmadaw (Army. Navy and Air) Soccer Tournament begins

YANGON, 1 Nov - A ceremony to open the 38th Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services' Cup Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Soccer Tournament was held at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna at 3 pm today, with an address by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Counci1 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint.

(4)    Pilot project set to assist 30,000 households through micro-credit schemes

YANGON, 1 Nov - A Microfinance Seminar jointly sponsored by Cottage Industries Department of the Ministry of Cooperatives and the United Nations Development Programme was held at International Business Centre this morning, with an address by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel. He said:

UNDP Resident Representative and Coordinator of UN Agencies for Myanmar Mr Patrice Coeur Bizot made a speech. The seminar was attended by Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, officials of Ministry of Agriculture and irrigation, Ministry of Finance and Revenue, Ministry of Cooperatives and Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development and personnel of UNDP and UN Projects Groups.The seminar continues tomorrow.

YANGON, 1 Nov - Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein received Vice-President of National Bank Ltd of Bangladesh Mr Nazim U Ahmed who called at his office this morning. Also present at the call was Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.

(6)    Theravada Buddhist Missionary Course opened

YANGON, 1 Nov - A ceremony to open Theravada Buddhist Missionary Course No 10 for Monks of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana was held at Mogok Soonsarhsaung on Kaba Rye Hill this morning.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Director-General U Arnt Maung of Religious Affairs Department, Director-General U Sann Lwin of DPPS, officials and well-wishers.

Vice-Chairman of Theravada Buddhist Missionary Ovadacariya Committee Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Uttarabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts.

(7)    National Convention Convening Commission meets

YANGON, 1 Nov - National Convention Convening Commission held its meeting at the meeting hall of NCCC at 3 pm today. Present on the occasion were Chairman of NCCC Mai-Gen Saw Lwin, Vice-Chairman Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and commission members.Secretary of NCCC, National Convention Convening Work Committee and National Convention Convening Management Committee reported matters concerning the National Convention.This was followed by a general round of discussions.The meeting came to a close with concluding remarks by Commission Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin.

(8)    Minister inspects construction work in Ayeyawady Division

YANGON, 1 Nov - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and officials of Public Works inspected construction of the toll gate on Yangon-Pathein Highway this morning.Superintending Engineer U Aung Kyaw Myint reported on progress of work. The minister gave instructions on installation of weighing ma-chines.

The minister went to the site of Tarkway-Kazan Road to link Maubin-Hsarmalauk Road and the approach road of Bo Myat Tun Bridge (Nyaungdon).Senior Engineer U Ye Tun reported on progress of work. The minister gave instructions on work. The minister inspected preparations for opening of Bo Myat Tun Bridge (Nyaungdon).The minister inspected Pantanaw Bridge in Pantanaw. Deputy Superintending Engineer U Htay Myint reported on progress of work and future tasks.

YANGON, 1 Nov - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received Economic & Commercial Counsellor Mr Lin Jian of Embassy of People's Republic of China to Myanmar who had completed his tour of duty and his successor Economic & Commercial Counsellor Mr Jin Honggen who called at his office at 11 am today.

(14)    Minister inspects Mu River Bridge Project

YANGON, 1 Nov -Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung inspected the railroad sections from Pyawbwe to Yanaung, Thaphanchaung, Sainggaung to Kyaduchaung on 29 October.Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected Butalin-YeU-KhinU Railroad on 30 October. He also inspected building of Pepyittaw Bridge and urged officials to strive for completion of the project in time.At the Mu River Bridge Project on YeU-KhinU Railroad in YeU Township, he met officials and assessed the progress of work and laid down the future tasks.

The minister also met engineers and stressed the need to strive to ensure worksite safety, conduct welfare tasks, for the bridge to meet the required standard and for timely completion of the bridge.

(16)    Filling Station No 0281 opened in Hlinethaya

YANGON, 1 Nov - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi attended opening ceremony of Filling Station No 0281 of Myanma Petroleum Products Enterprise in Hlinethaya Township this morning and formally opened the filling station.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Ministers  U Tin Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Aung, departmental heads and gust.

Previously, Filling Station No 0268 was the only station that sold petroleum and diesel in Hlinethaya Filling Station No 0281 will sell  petroleum and Station No 0268 will sell diesel.

The filling stations were opened for increasing numbers of the vehicles on completion of Bo Myat Tun Bridge across Nyaungdon River on Yangon-Pathein Road.

(17)    30 members resign from Nattalin Township NLD

YANGON, 1 Nov - Thirty members resigned from National League for Democracy of Nattalin Township, Bago Division. Thirty members of Nattalin Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Nattalin Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 4
0ctober 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in. party politics of NLD.

(18)    51 members resign from Palaw Township NLD

YANGON, 1 Nov - Fifty-one members resigned from National League for Democracy of Palaw Township, Taninthayi Division. Fifty-one members of Palaw Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters resignation to Palaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 7 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
