(1)    Chairman of the State Peace and Development Coun Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials Ambassador of Indonesia

YANGON, 12 Oct - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe accepted credentials of newly accredited Ambassador of Indonesia to the Union of Myanmar Mr Nasaruddin Mochtar Koro at the Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 11.30 am today.

Also present on the occasion were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council, Minister for Foreign Affairs  and Director-General of the Protocol Department.

YANGON, 12 Oct - The ceremony to mark the Day of Six Billion was held at the International Business Centre on Pyay Road with Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt in attendance.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an address on the occasion. He said:

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and guests viewed the Day of Six Billion commemorative exhibition.

(3)    Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony of 17th Meeting of Health Ministers of Countries of WHO South-East Asia Region

YANGON, 12 Oct - The opening ceremony of the 17th Meeting of Health Ministers of Countries of WHO South-East Asia Region hosted in Myanmar for the first time took place at Traders Hotel on Sule Pagoda Road this morning, with an address by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-l delivered an opening address.

The Secretary-1 cordially greeted Ministers of Health of countries of WHO South-East Asia Region and Advisers and diplomats.

YANGON, 12 Oct - The 55th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Organizing Leading Committee met this morning at the Ministry of Defence, addressed by Chairman of the Leading Committee Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Tin Oo said.

The meeting ended with concluding remarks by Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

(5)    PRC company agrees to build 12,000-ton capacity shipyard in Myanmar

YANGON, 12 Oct - Myanmar Shipyards of the Ministry of Transport and Shandong Agricultural Industry and Commerce Group Corporation of the People's Republic of China signed contract at the Traders Hotel this evening to build a shipyard which will have the capacity to dock up to 12,000-ton ships, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The shipyard can repair 12,000-ton ships, 168 metres long and has a draught of nine metres. The project will cost K1.05 billion including US $ 25.45 million, which will be granted by PRC.

(6)    No 11 LID wins Under-21 Tatmadaw Soccer Tournament

YANGON, 12 Oct - The final match of 15th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief's Bowl Under-21 Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Soccer Tournament was played at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna this evening.

On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint presented championship bowl to No 11 LID team.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Sports, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command, directors of the Ministry of Defence, military attaches of foreign embassies, senior military officers and spectators.

(7)    Profit-sharing agreement on zinc metal production signed

YANGON, 12 Oct - A profit-sharing agreement on zinc metal production in Longh Keng, Mongpun Township, Shan State (South), was signed by No 1 Mining Enterprise of the Ministry of Mines and Cornerstone Resources (Myanmar) Ltd of Australia, in Thiri Yadana Hall of the ministry this morning, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin.

Managing Director U Saw Lwin of No 1 Mining Enterprise and Chairman Mr charles EE Devenish explained works to be done. they then signed and exchanged the agreement.

Later, those present were hosted dinner.

(8)    17th Meeting of Health Ministers of Countries of WHO South-East Asia

YANGON, 12 Oct - The 17th Meeting of Health Ministers of Countries of WHO South-East Asia Region hosted in Myanmar for the first time was held at Traders Hotel on Sule Pagoda Road at 11.30 am today.

Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia Region Dr Uton Muchtar Rafei made an introductory speech.

Ministers of Health of South East Asia-Region also made speeches.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Minister of Health of Nepal Dr Ram Baram Yadav were elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively.

Delegates took part in implementation of future tasks passed by the previous meeting.

They then participated in draft for future tasks.

The meeting continues till 14 October.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein hosted dinner in honour of the Ministers of Health, Advisers and officials of Offices of Regional Director for South East Asia and WHO Resident Representative in Myanmar at Karaweik Palace.

(9)    Minister meets South Africa-bound delegation

YANGON, 12 Oct - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than met with Myanmar delegation which will attend South Africa Intentional Trade Fair and officials who will participate in the fair, at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Commerce this evening.

Then, Minister Maj-Gen Kyaw Than gave a speech.

(10)    MIC: Secretary meets officials of Myanmar Airport Limousine Services

YANGON, 12 Oct - Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung met Managing Director Mr Michael Rudenmark and party of Myanmar Airport Limousine Services Co Ltd who called at the commission office at 11.30 am today.

They discussed investment.

(11)    Myanmar delegation leaves for Switerland

YANGON, 12 Oct - At the invitation of International Telegraphs Federation, a Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin left here by air this morning to visit Telecom 99 communication equipment exhibition held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 10 to 17 October.

(12) 39 members resign from Kyunsu Township NLD

YANGON, 12 Oct - Fifty-eight member resigned from the National League for Democracy of Letpadan Township, Bago Division.

Fifty-eight members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Letpadan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the part concerned on 7 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
