YANGON, 1l Oct - Union Solidarity and Development Association Executives'
Advanced
Management Course No 6 and USDA Executives' Management Course No 20
were opened with
a ceremony in Pyidaungsu Hall of Central Public Relations
Unit in Hmawby, Yangon Division, at
9 am today, addressed by Patron of USDA
Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council Commander-in-Chief of
Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe.
Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said.
In conclusion, there are two things to say; the management course opened
today is attended by
members who are discharging basic duties of the
association and the advanced management
course by executives who are
discharging leadership duties at various levels; as patriotic youths
discharging the duties of the association and national duties, trainees need
to learn subjects taught
at the courses; it is needed for all to study hard
so as to know national political outlook,
organizational outlook and
security outlook; the second thing is morale; it is the time when efforts
are being made to build the nation composed of national races, into a
peaceful, modern and
developed one; everybody is to have conviction that
this end is to be achieved through nationalist
spirit and Union spirit; they
also have to have determination to march toward the goal, boldly
facing any
kinds of subversive activities and aggression; nationalistic spirit and Union
spirit have
the power to safeguard the nation and they are also powerful
forces which can prevent destructive
and bullying acts and aggression.
After the ceremony, the Senior General had a cordial meeting with the
trainees, and then
had lunch together with them.

(2) Preventive measures against fires and natural disasters related to ntional task
YANGON, 11 Oct - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt met officials of Fire Services Department of the Ministry
of Social Welfare, Relief and
Resettlement FSD Head Office this afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion,the Secretary-1 said.
The Secretary-l accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour
to the well-wishers.
After the ceremony, ,the Secretary-l and party observed
the life-saving skill demonstration of the
members of USDA, Myanmar Police
Force, Fire Brigade, Auxiliary Fire Brigade and Red Cross.
Then, the Secretary-l had a cordial meeting with them, and presented awards
to them.

(3) Secretary-1 receives
national race leaders of Kachin State Specials Region-2
YANGON, 1l Oct - Chairman of Work Committee for Development of Border Areas
and
National Races Secretary -1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received national race leader U Zaw Maing and members of
Kachin Special Region 2 and peace
negotiators at Tatmadaw Guest House on
Innya Road at 3.45 pm today.
They discussed better road transportation, electric power, mines, wood-based
industries
and economic development matters.

(4) Minister for Commerce visits Bangladesh
YANGON, 11 Oct - A Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen
Kyaw Than
visited Bangladesh from 3 to 10 October for strengthening of
friendly relationship and promotion
of border trade between the two
countries.
While in Bangladesh, Minister Maj-Gen Kyaw Than called on Prime Minister of
People's Republic
of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and met with Minister of
Commerce and Industries Mr Tofail
Ahmed, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mr Abul Hasan Chowdhury and Deputy Minister of
Shipping Transportation Mr
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury.
After holding the Bangladesh-Myanmar Ministerial Level Meeting, the two
commerce ministers
signed agreements on 4 October. At the meeting, they
discussed review of trade of the two
countries, visa for merchants, export
and import matters, construction of roads and bridges, joint
ventures,
selecting new export items in border trade.
The Myanmar delegation visited advanced ceramics production, pharmaceutical
production, the
museum of the leader who founded Bangladesh and fertilizer
plant in Chittagong, export
processing zone and Chittagong Stock Exchange.

(5) Minister meets Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met Deputy Prime
Minister and
Minister of Public Health Mr Korn Dabbaransi and party of
Thailand who arrived here to attend
the 17th Meeting of Health Ministers of
South-East Asia Region of WHO in Yangon, Myanmar,
who called at his office
this evening.
Also present at the call were Deputy Minister, officials of departments under
the ministry.

(6) Ministry of Education holds coord meeting
YANGON, 11 Oct - Ministry Education held second four-monthly coordination
meeting at the
meeting hall of Universities' Central Council of Higher
Education Department (Lower Myanmar)
this afternoon.
Present on the occasion were Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy
Ministers and
officials.
Minister U Than Aung gave a speech.
State and Division education officers reported on tasks carried out m second
four months the of
their respective regions.
The meeting continues tomorrow.

YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe received
Managing Director
Mr Geoffrey B Mullett of AB Pharos Marine Pte Ltd of
Singapore who donated two sets of Solar
Powered Lantern at his office at 4
pm today.
Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe accepted the donation and expressed words
of thanks.

(8) Minister inspects construction of Yangon International Airport
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe arrived at
Yangon
Intentional Airport at 10 am today. Afterwards, the minister, deputy
minister and party inspected
repair and maintenance of the planes and
progress of Aviation Control Tower and gave necessary
instructions on
timely completion of the project and meeting set standard to officials.

organized by Central Committee for Mid-Year Myanma
Gems Emporium, at Myanma
Gems Mart on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.

(10) 39 members resign from Kyunsu Township NLD
YANGON, 11 Oct - Thirty-nine members resigned from National League for
Democracy of Kyunsu Township, Taninthayi Division.
Thirty-nine members of Kyunsu Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own
volition,
resigned by sending letters of resignation to Kyunsu Township
Multiparty Democracy General
Election Commission and the party concerned on
30 September 1999 as they no longer wished to
participate in party politics
of NLD.
