(1) Donations for public welfare works
YANGON, 30 Sept -A ceremony to donate cash for Thanmyanthu Economic Syndicate to use in public welfare works was held at the Office of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this afternoon, attended by Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) and Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Well-wishers presented cash to Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials. Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun explained the public welfare works. On behalf of the well-wishers, Daw Than Than Nyunt explained the purpose of the donation. Then, Director of Resettlements Col Aung Thein spoke words of thanks.

(2) Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Singapore
YANGON, 30 Sept- On behalf of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Ambassador of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow who had completed his tour of duty at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 3 pm today.
Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department and officials.

(3) Kissapanadi River Bridge on Yangon-Sittway Highway to be completed soon
YANGON, 30 Sept - Chairman of. Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe inspected Kissapanadi River Bridge Project in Kyauktaw Township on 28 September morning.
Accompanied by Brig-Gen Hla Myint of Kyauktaw Station and division-level officials, the commander heard a report on progress in implementing the project, cent per cent completion of the construction of the two approach structures, 18 piers of the approach bridge, six piers of the main body of the bridge and concrete structures, flooring, installation of frames, laying the road on the bridge, cent per cent completion of the tarring of the road on the approach structure on MraukU bank, tarring of the road of the approach structure on Kyauktaw bank which will be completed soon and the final touches which will be completed in mid-October presented by the Project Engineer U Myo Myint. Brig-Gen Hla Myint also presented relevant matters.
After looking into the requirements, the commander inspected the construction works of the project. The 2,512 feet long bridge has a steel frame and reinforced concrete approach structures. The 40-foot wide bridge will have a 28-foot wide motor way with six-foot-wide pedestrian lanes on both sides. The bridge can bear up to 60 tons. Construction of the largest and longest bridge on Yangon-Sittway Highway will be completed soon. Accompanied by officials, the commander inspected the progress in laying of roads in Kyauktaw on a motorcade and gave suggestions to officials.

(4) 'Soon' offered to Chairman Sayadaw and members of Sangha
YANGON, 30 Sept-Eng Seng Travel Co Group offered 'soon' to the Chairman Sayadaw of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee and 200-members of the Sangha at Nikaya Sarthintaik in Dagon Myothit ( South) this morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamajotika Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita and members of the Sangha, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung, Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin, Secretary of Dagon Myothit- (South) USDA U Zaw Oo and EC members, laypersons and well-wishers. The Chairman Sayadaw administered the Five Precepts and members of the Sangha recited the parittas.
Then, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Mr Seng Hong Nguan and well-wishers offered "soon" to members of the Sangha. Then, Mr Seng Hong Nguan presented K 500,000 for Chairman Sayadaw to U Aung Khin.
Then, Chairman Sayadaw delivered a sermon. After the
ceremony, officials offered 'soon' to members of the Sangha.

(5) Fish powdering factory and jetty opened in Kawthoung
YANGON, 30 Sept-The 20-ton capacity fish powdering factory and the jetty built by Thida Marine Enterprise in Kawthoung Township, Taninthayi Division, was commissioned into service on 27 September morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Commander of Taninthayi Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint and departmental personnel.

(6) Work Committee meets to prepare for WHO Health Ministers Meeting
YANGON, 30 Sept-The Work Committee for Hosting the 17th Meeting of
Health Ministers of WHO member countries of
South-East Asian Region held third coordination
meeting at Medical Research Department Office on
Ziwaka Road in Dagon Township at 9.30 am today, attended by Chairman of the Work
Committee Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo.
Then, those present took part in the discussions. Chairman of the Work Committee Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo gave the concluding remarks. The 17th Meeting of Health Ministers of WHO member countries of South-East Asian Region will be held from 12 to 14 October 1999.

(7) Cultivation of poppy substitute crops gaining momentum in Shan State (North)
YANGON, 30 Sept - Seeds to cultivate poppy substitute crops in Kunlon District, Shan State (North), were distributed to farmers with the assistance of the Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races and North-East Command in Kunlon on 26 September afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, the commander explained the round assistance being rendered to cultivate substitute crops in wiping out poppy cultivation in Shan State (North) and distribution of poppy-substitute-crop seeds, urging national races to participate with unity to ensure success in cultivating poppy substitute crops.
Secretary of Kunlon District Peace and Development Council Maj Myint Kyi reported on plans to cultivate poppy substitute crops. The commander presented the seeds to representatives of villages. A representative, on behalf of farmers, spoke words of thanks.
The seeds distributed there were 360 kilograms of buckwheat seeds, 156 baskets of soybean seeds, 91 baskets of sadawpe seeds, tree baskets of mustard seeds and 137 baskets of wheat. Over 878 acres will be put under poppy substitute crops in Kunlon District.
The government and the Shan State (North) with the assistance of UNDCP and JICA of Japan has cultivated 3712 acres of monsoon paddy, 4203 acres of seasonal crops such as buckwheat, wheat, corn, sugarcane, chili, beans and sunflower and 156 acres of perennial crops such as tea and coffee in Shan State (North). The commander and officials have already distributed seeds for winter crops to farmers.

(8) Commander inspects construction works, oil palm plantation
YANGON, 30 Sept - Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, accompanied by Commander of Taninthayi Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint and departmental official inspected construction site of Kawthoung-Bokpyin road at Santhida camp on 26 September morning. Officials reported on progress of the construction. So far, Kawthoung-Bokpyin road has been tarred on 33 miles.
Then, the commander and party went to oil palm plantation being cultivated by Yuzana Company and Annawa Company, and inspected preparations for cultivation and progress of the work.

(9) Myanmar delegation arrives back from China
YANGON, 30 Sept - A five-member Myanmar delegation led by Secretary-General of Union Solidarity and Development Association and Minister for Education U Than Aung arrived back here from People's Republic of China by air yesterday evening at the end of study tour at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice-Chairman of Chinese Association for International Understanding Mr Wan Guoguan.

YANGON, 30 Sept -Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office and Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung arrived back here by air this evening from Singapore after attending the Second Meeting of ASEAN Investment Regional Council which was held on 29 September in Singapore.

YANGON, 30 Sept -Chinese cultural delegation led by Deputy Director General of Cultural Department of Jilin Province of People's Republic of China Mr Chen Jing Dong and officials, accompanied by officials of Fine Arts Department of Ministry of Culture and embassy staff, visited the National Museum on Pyay Road this morning. They were welcomed by officials of Department of Cultural Institute.

Deputy Minister for Commerce tours Chinshwehaw, Muse
YANGON, 30 Sept - Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint, accompanied by Col Nay Win of Minister's Office and Deputy Director-General of Border Trade Department Lt-Col Thein Lwin, arrived at Kunlong on 25 September morning.
The deputy minister together with No 2 Officiating Tactical Operation Commander Lt-Col Sein Win and the Secretary of District Peace and Development Council inspected site chosen for the construction of check point in Nanthu Jetty in Kunlong. Deputy Director-General Lt-Col Thein Lwin and officials reported to the Deputy Minister on work to be done.
The deputy minister and party proceeded to Chinshwehaw and inspected staff quarters. Deputy Director-General Lt-Col Thein Lwin and officials of Asia World reported to the Deputy Minister Commodore Myo Tint on the construction of check point and trade sector at Than Lwin Yeiktha. The deputy minister gave instructions to officials.

(15) 167 members resign from Yekyi Township NLD
YANGON, 30 Sept -A ceremony to present 167 resignations of members of National League for Democracy of Yekyi Township, Ayeyawady Division, was held at Yekyi Hall of the township at 9.30 am on 8 August 1999.
A total of 167 members of Yekyi Township NLD, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub commission and the party concerned as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD. On 8 August 1999, NLD member U Sein Win, on behalf of the NLD members, explained reasons of the resignation and handed over the resignations to Chairman of Township Election Sub-Commission U Tun Kyi.

YANGON, 30 Sept -A ceremony to present 114 resignations of members of National League for Democracy of Natmauk Township, Magway Division, was held at Natmauk Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Office at 12 noon on 28 September 1999.
A total of 114 members of Natmauk Township NLD, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
On 28 September 1999, NLD member U Hla Shwe, on behalf of the NLD members, explained reasons of the resignation. Then, NLD member U Myint Aung handed over the resignations to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission U Tun Aye.
