(1) Special Refresher Course No 3 for Basic Education Teachers concluded
YANGON, 26 Sept - Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by ministers,
the Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, deputy ministers,
the Chief of Staff (Air), Myanmar ambassadors, officials of the; State Peace and
Development Council Office and departmental heads and officials, left here by
Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived in Mandalay at 9 am today.
Afterwards, Special
Refresher Course No 3 for Basic Education Teachers concluded in Yadana Hall of
Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin, Mandalay
Division, at 9.40 am today, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education
Committee Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt.First, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an address.In his
address, the Secretary-1 made a speech.Then, the Secretary-1 presented model
trainee. Next, the Secretary-l presented certificates to the trainee teachers
through leaders and deputy 1eaders of trainee companies. Afterwards, the
Secretary- 1 accepted K 20,000 for the funds of Affiliated Basic Education High
School of Zeebingyi Village in PyinOoLwin Township by trainee teachers. After
the ceremony, the Secretary-1 cordially met trainee teachers. The Secretary-l
then inspected construction of main building of the institute.
Then, the
Secretary-l and party arrived back in Mandalay later in the morning.
(2) Traditional Medicine Practitioners Course No 2 opens
YANGON, 26 Sept - Traditional Medicine Practitioners Course No 2 of the
Ministry of Health opened at traditional medicine hall in Aungmyethazan Township
in Mandalay this morning, with an address by Chairman of National Health
Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace andDevelopment Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt. The Secretary-l said.The Secretary-l urged the trainee medicine
practitioners to pay keen attention to the lectures at the course, to make
efforts for systematic production with the use of modern machines, to preserve
the traditional
medicine and to render assistance for national interest.The
ten-month course is being attended by 100 traditional medicine practitioners.
(3) Secretary-2 visits International Exhibition (Yangon) 99
YANGON, 26 Sept - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, deputy ministers and senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, visited International Exhibition (Yangon) 99 in Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road this afternoon.Then, the Secretary-2 and party looked round various kinds of goods including furniture and agricultural equipment displayed in the 152 showrooms by 80 local and foreign companies and they were conducted round the exhibition by officials.

4) ( Provisions donated to Sarthintaiks in Bahan Township
YANGON, 26 Sept - Families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers
offered provisions and cash to Maha Aungmye Bonsan, Aungban, Danyawady and Yatha
Zeyayonkyaung Sarthintaiks in Bahan Township this morning, attended by
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of
Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.The Secretary-2, the
minister and deputy ministers offered rice donated by
Tatmadaw families to
Padana Nayaka Sayadaws.Similarly, families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and
well-wishers donated rice to Pali Tekkatho Nyaungdon, Tejindarama and
Satubonmika Kyaungtaiks in Bahan Township.The Secretary-2 presented offertories
to the Nyaungdon Kyaungtaik Padana Nayaka Sayadaw.

(5) Minister inspects construction of hospitals, institutes
YANGON, 26 Sept - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, and
officials,inspected equivalence of health care in Yangon and Mandalay and
construction of hospitals on 24 September.Then, the minister and party inspected
chosen sites for construction of the academic hospital (300-bed) and Institute
of Dental Medicine.Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein inspected progress at Central
Women' s Hospital (Upper Myanmar) and Institute of Nursing.Next, the minister
and party inspected progress in construction of Psychiatric Hospital and chosen
sites for construction of Institute of
Pharmacy and Institute of Paramedical
Science.

(6) Myanmar Day observed in Kunming
YANGON, 26 Sept - Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay left here by air on 23 September for People's Republic of China to hold "Myanmar Day" at Expo' 99 Kunming, China, in Yunnan Province.Mayor U Ko Lay inspected the hall where opening ceremony of Myanmar Day would take place.They inspected formation of rooms and the office.Then, Mayor U Ko Lay and party attended the entertainment programme presented by Ministry of Culture at Expo' 99 Kunming, China, in China Hall.Mayor U Ko Lay met the Governor of Yunnan Province and the Vice-Mayor of Kunming City at Kunming Hotel at 6 pm on 24 September.They discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries.Mayor U Ko Lay and Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province Cheng Ying Xum made speeches at the opening of Myanmar Day.Mayor U Ko Lay made a speech at the workshop on Myanmar Day ceremony o f Expo 99 Kunming.Mayor U Ko Lay later visited China HallAt 6.30 pm local time, a ceremony to mark the success of Myanmar Day was held at Expo Ji Xin Restaurant.

(7) Crowds on holiday seen at pagodas, amusement parks, recreation centres
YANGON, 26 Sept - The pagodas, recreation centres, amusement parks and shopping centres in Yangon were crowded with devotees and holiday-makers today as it was a Sunday, an office holiday.Devotees, pilgrims and people visited Sacred Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon) to pray, to tell beads to exercise religious contemplation and meditation, to offer flowers and to make donations. Some foreign tourists were also seen visiting the pagodas in the course of their tours. They toured Kaba Aye, Koedatgyi, Chaukhtatgyi, Ngadatgyi, Kyaikkhauk, Kyauktan Kyaikhmawwun and Mellamu Pagodas and amusement parks.

(8) 55 members resign from Salin Township NLD
YANGON, 26 Sept - Fifty-five members resigned from National League for
Democracy of Salin Township, Magway Division.Twenty-five members of Salin
Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending
letters of resignation to Salin Township
Multiparty Democracy General
Election Commission and the party concerned on
30 January 1999 and 30
members did so on 5 March 1999 totalling 55 as they no
longer wished to
participate in party politics of NLD.
