(1) Senior General Than Shwe concludes inspection tour of Bago, Magway, Sagaing and Mandalay Divisions
YANGON, 25 Sept - Chairman of the State Peace and Development CouncilCommander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe left here by car along the Pyay-Aunglan- Taung dwingyi -Magway motor-road for Magway, Magway Division, on 16 September.Senior General Than Shwe inspected cultivation of paddy and other crops, forest and tree plantation, greening of environs, motor road and bridges along the road.Senior General Than Shwe also inspected water pumping project in Magway. He said all efforts are to be made to turn farm land of Anya region into crop fields with the use of water from rivers, dams, lakes and rain water.The Senior General inspected the site chosen for the construction of Textile Mill in Pwintbyu and Pakokku Townships and greening work of Tantkyitaung on 17 September.He gave necessary instructions to officials on creation of work opportunities for local people, on establishment of import substitute industry for the development of region.Senior General Than Shwe attended the inauguration ceremony of Hsinbyushin Bridge across the Chindwin River on 18 September.He gave suggestions to officials on the development of agriculture and industrial sectors in Sagaing and Mandalay. They arrived at Sugar Mill No 5 (Myohla) of Myanma Sugarcane Enterprise under construction in Yedashe Township, Bago Division.Senior General Than Shwe said that long-term and short-term plans should be laid down to cultivate sugarcane for the sugar mills. Then, Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected the sugar mill. Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected Myohla Sugar Mill and left there by car for Toungoo in Bago Division.Senior General Than Shwe and party left Toungoo by car for Yangon this morning and inspected Toungoo-Ottwin -Phyu- Nyaunglaybin DaikU-Bago road.Senior General Than Shwe and party arrived at No 77 Light Infantry Division in Bago at 2 pm today.Then, Senior General Than Shwe left Bago by car for Yangon.

(2) Senior General Than Shwe offers rice, alms to Sarthintaiks in Toungoo
YANGON, 25 Sept - A ceremony to donate rice and alms to Sayadaws and nuns of
Sarthintaiks and nunneries in Toungoo, Bago Division, was held at Myasigon
Sarthintaik in Toungoo at 9 am today, attended by Chairman of the State Peace
and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General
Than Shwe.The congregation received the Five Precepts from Vice-Chairman of the
State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Myasigon Sarthintaik
Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Tikkhasara.Then, members of the Sangha recited
parittas.Chairman of State Pace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of
Defence
Services Senior General Than Shwe donated rice and offertories to
the Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee and Sayadaw
Bhaddanta Pandica of Aungmye Shwebon Kyaung.The Senior General and party shared
merits gained and the ceremony then came to a close.

(3) Special Refresher Course No 37 for Basic Education Teachers concludes
YANGON, 25 Sept - The concluding ceremony of Special Refresher Course No 37
for Basic Education Teachers was held in Nawarat Hall of the Central Institute
of Civil Service in Hlegu Township this morning, addressed by Chairman of
Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.In his address, the Secretary-1 made a speech.Next,
the Secretary- 1 presented model awards and other awards to the trainees.
The Secretary-l accepted cash donated for Konawin Pagoda and Dhammayon of
CICS, national convention, USDA, restoration of pagodas in Bagan and Basic
Education Primary School in CICS.The Secretary-l had a chat with the trainee
teachers and left CICS.

(4) Seminar on diesel locomotive, carriage and
spare Parts of
Myanma Railways opens
YANGON, 25 Sept - A seminar and an exhibition on diesel locomotive, carriage
and spare parts of Myanma Railways were held at Insein Locomotive Workshop this
afternoon, with an address by Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung.The
minister and party inspected spare parts.
The industrialists participated in
the discussions. The minister made a concluding speech.The exhibition continues
till 24 October.
(5) Chief Justice and party arrive back
YANGON, 25 Sept - A Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of National Convention Convening Commission Chief Justice U Aung Toe arrived back here by air this afternoon after attending the 20th ASEAN Parliamentary Work Committee and General Meeting in Manila, the Philippines, from 20 to 23 September.

(6) Tatmadaw families, well-wishers offer provisions to Sarthintaiks in North Okkalapa, Thakayta
YANGON, 25 Sept - Families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers offered provisions to Dhamma Yaunggyi Gandhayon, Ananbin Tawya, Aungthawady and Dhamma Theingi Pyawbwe Sarthintaiks in North Okkalapa Township this morning.Sayadaw Bhaddanta Aggadhamma of Dhamma Yaunggyi Sarthintaik administered the Five Precepts.Similarly, families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice and alms to Aungcakkaya Moegok, Thusittalankara, Jetawun and Pyilonchantha Sarthintaiks in Thakayta Township.Senior military officers and well-wishers donated offertories and cash to Sayadaws. Bhaddanta Vimalabuddhi delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

(7) 13 members resign from Aungmyethazan Township NLD
YANGON, 25 Sept - Thirteen members resigned from National League for
Democracy of Aungmyethazan Township, Mandalay Division.Thirteen members of
Aungmyethazan Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned
by sending letters of resignation to Aungmyethazan Township Multiparty Democracy
General Election Commission and the party
concerned on 24 August 1999 as
they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
