(1)  Secretary-l  inspects  rebuilding of Kanbawzathadi Palace in Bago

YANGON, 19 Sept - Secretary-l of the State Peaceand Development Council Lt-Gen Khin   Nyunt, accompanied by ministers, deputy ministers,officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads and officials, left for Bago by car this morning. The Secretary-l  attended the cash donation ceremony for the renovation of Seinthalyaung Buddha Image in Bago and accepted donations. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party went to the excavation site of Kanbawzathadi Palace in Bago. In the briefing hall of  the site, the  Secretary-1 inspected Buddha images of Hanthawady and Amarapura Periods and earthen wares and glazed wares of Hanthawady Period. Then, the Secretary-l inspected the already-built Bamarathana Throne Hall of Kanbawzathadi Palace.  Afterwards, theSecretary-l attended the ceremony of offering provisions to Dhamma Lankara Kyaungtaik and Kyakhatwaing Kyaungtaik in Bago. Later, theSecretary-l and party visited Shwethalyaung Pagoda in Bago, and inspected the renovation of the eastern stairways and construction of a new tiered roof of the stairway of the pagoda. TheSecretary-l signed in the visitors' book and presented donations towards the pagoda fund. The Secretary-l and party left Bago in the evening.

(2)  Provisions donated to two Kyaungtaiks in Bago

YANGON, 19 Sept - A ceremony to donate provision to Dhamma Lankara Kyaungtaik was held at the Kyaungtaik in Bago this afternoon, at tended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Congregation received the Five Precepts from Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Visudha of Dhamma
Lankara  Kyaungtaik. Next, the Secretary-l andparty presented offertories and provisions donated by the State Peace and Development  Council to the Sayadaw. The Secretary-l and party paid obeisance to ancient Buddha images. The  Secretary-l then supplicated on religious affairs. The Secretary-l and party presented offertories and provisions donated by the State Peace and Development Council to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Jotipala and members of the Sangha. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Jotipala delivered Ovadakatha.Then,  the Secretary-l and party shared merits for  donations.

(3)  Over K 16 million for renovation of Seinthalyaung Reclining Buddha Image in Bago

YANGON, 19 Sept - The cash presentation ceremony for the renovation of the Seinthalyaung Reclining Buddha Image in Bago was held at the pandal near the  Buddha Image this morning attended  by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions to officials. Well-wishers donated over K 16 million for the renovation of Seinthalyaung Reclining Buddha Image. Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Commander and ministers accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to them.  Aftert the ceremony, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Commander and ministers inspected  progress in construction work of iron tazaung at the Buddha Image.

(4)  Myanmar delegation leaves for the Philippines

YANGON, 19 Sept - A  Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of National Convention Convening  Work Committee Chief Justice U Aung Toe left here by air for the Philippines this morning to attend 20th ASEAN Parliamentary Work  Committee and General Meeting to be held in Manila, the Philippines, from 20 to 23 September.

(5)  Minister for Livestock and Fisheries meets fisheries entrepreneurs

YANGON, 19 Sept - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met service personnel of Fisheries Department and fisheries entrepreneurs at the hall of the department  in Myeik on 17 September. The minister inspected construction of cold storage and ice factory of Pyi Phyo Tun Co Ltd, cold storage and 350-ton fish and prawn dressing factory of International Fisheries Taninthayi  Co Ltd, plot for construction of international fish market and cold storage and ice factory of Myanma Garment Co Ltd.  The minister inspected production process of fish and prawn at the  factory.

(6)  Asia Wealth Bank Ltd opens branch in Myeik

YANGON, 19 Sept - Asia Wealth Bank Ltd opened its branch in front of Development Market  on Watch Tower Road in Myeik yesterday morning.Present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development  Council Commander of Coastal Region Command  Maj-Gen  Thura Thiha Thura  Sit  Maung, and officials and guests.

(7)  Commander attends coord meeting on expediting work for eradication of leprosy

YANGON, 19 Sept - A division-level coordination meeting on expediting work for eradication of
 leprosy was held at Division General  Hospital in Pathein, Ayeyawady Division, on 16 September
 morning.  Present on the occasion were Chairman of  Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southn West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann,  officials  and in the  division and guests. The commander gave a speech on the occasion.

(8)   Pagodas, recreation centres, amusement parks in Yangon bustling with holiday activities

YANGON,  19  Sept - The centres of pilgrimage, recreation, amusement and shopping in Yangon were seen bustling with  activities  today as it was a Sunday, an office holiday. Devotees,members of the Sangha and people including tourists visited th Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon) and paid obeisance to the Sacred Tooth Relic enshrined ina magnificent structure of ancient architecture. They came to to pray, to tell beads, to  exercise religious contemplation and meditation, to offer flowers and to make donations. Families, group sand individuals who wanted rest and relaxation were seen at the Kandaw Mingala Park, and enjoyed themselves at Happy World modern recreation centre, amusement facilities, joy rides and various games including  video-games. Holiday-makers were also found to be getting rest and recreation at Yangon Zoological Gardens, Thakayta Amusement Park and Myakyuntha Amusement Park. Shoppers were also seen at department stores, markets, plazas. and stores downtown and in the suburbs.

(9)  1100 stimulant tablets seized in Thingangyun, Mingala Taungnyunt

YANGON,  16  Sept - A combine team comprising members of regional intelligence unit and Myanmar  Police Force seized 1100  stimulant tablets from Ma Khin Mar Than (a) Ma Sayifar, 40, daughter of U War Ha of, No 26, 1 Ward, Inwa Street,  Hpa-an Township, on 7 September. The team, while waiting on the Pyihtaungsu bridge on Laydauntkan Road in Thingangyun  Township, Yangon Division, nabbed her together with 300 stimulant tablets bearing WY. Acting on further information, the team searched Room C/7 Building No 174, Banyadala Street,   Thabyaygon Ward, Mingala Taungnyunt Township, where she was staying  and seized 800 stimulant tablets. She was alleged to have bought  those; stimulant tablets from a grocery shop in the market of  Maesot, Thailand. Action is being taken against her under the Narcotic Drugs and  Psychotropic Substances Law.

(10)  15 members resign from Yadashay Township NLD

YANGON, 19 Sept - Fifteen members resigned from National League for Democracy of  Yedashay Township, Bago Division  Fifteen members of Yedashay NLD, Bago Division, of  their  own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation  to Yedashay Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 31 August 1999 as they no  longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
