(1) Secretary-l inspects renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 13 Sept - Patron of the Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,  accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office,  arrived at Southern  Stairway of the Shwedagon Pagoda at 9 am today.  Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  inspected  Buddha images to be kept at Htida  Model  Pagoda on the  platform  of the Pagoda and paid  homage to them.  Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party proceeded  to the upper  terrace of the  Later,  Secretary-1  Lt-Gen  Khin Nyunt  inspected  renovation  of the  Western stairway of the pagoda.

(2) Development undertakings of Taninthayi Division making progress

YANGON, 13 Sept - A meeting  was held at  Public  Works Head Office this  afternoon  to  coordinate  development  undertakings of Taninthayi Division,  addressed  by Chairman of the  Leading  Committee  for  Region-wise Development of  Agriculture Secretary-2  of the State  Peace and  Development  Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.  The Secretary-2  attended  to the  requirements,  saying  efforts  should be  made for the progress of  Taninthayi  Division as  projected;  thrifty  means should be applied; and  assistance  should be  rendered  to the  national  entrepreneurs  who are making  investments in the  regional economy.

(3) Demonstration of communication  equipment of Krone AG Germany

YANGON, 13 Sept - A demonstration of communication equipment of  Krone AG Germany  sponsored by MY Associates Co Ltd was held at Telecommunications and Posts Training School this  morning.  Present was Minister for Communication,  Posts  and   Telegraphs   Brig-Gen  Win  Tin  and  officials.  Representatives  of Krone AG  Germany  replied  to  queries  raised  by  those  present.

(4) MIC Secretary meets foreign visitor

YANGON, 13 Sept - Secretary of Myanmar Investment  Commission Minister at the State Peace  and  Development  Council  Chairman's  Office Brig-Gen  Maung  Maung  met  with  Chairman of  Meeyahta  International Hotel  Limited  Mr Serge Pun (a) U  Thein Wai and party at his office  this  morning.  Also present  at  the  call  together with  the minister  were  officials of the  Directorate  of  Investment  and Company  Administration.

(5) Commander inspects progress in agriculture, development works in Kyaukse

YANGON, 13 Sept - Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander  of  Central  Command  Maj-Gen Ye Myint  attended.  At  Kyaukse Township  Development  Affairs Department  Office,  the  commander  met  with  departmental  officials.  The  commander   heard  a  report  on  development  works  by  officials  concerned  and  attended to their  needs.

(6) Hinthada District wins trophy of Ayeyawady Division Inter-District Under 17 Soccer Tournament

YANGON, 13 Sept - The prize presentation of  Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development  Council  Chairman's Trophy Inter-District  Under-17 Soccer  Tournament  was held at Kyauktaing  sports ground  in Pathein on 12 September.  Among the spectators  were  attended  Chairman  of  Ayeyawady  Division  Peace  and  Development  Council  Commander  of  South-West  Command  Maj-Gen  Thura Shwe Mann and  Sports and  officials.  In  the  final   match,  Hinthada  District beat Maubin  District 2-0.  At  the prize  presentation  ceremony,  the commander  presented the championship trophy to officials of  Hinthada  District  team.  The  deputy  commander  presented the best player  awards to the winners.  Officials  also  presented  prizes  to the  other  winners.

(7) Chief Justice arrives back

YANGON, 13 Sept - Chief Justice U Aung Toe arrived back here by air yesterday  evening after  attending  Eighth  Meeting of Chief  Justices  of  Asia-Pacific  Region in Seoul, Republic of Korea,  from 7 to 11  September.  Director U Soe Nyunt of  the Supreme Court  accompanying  Chief  Justice U  Aung Toe also arrived  back here.

(8) Secretary of CCDAC meets UNDCP officials
 

YANGON, 13 Sept - Secretary of Central  Committee  for  Drug  Abuse  Control   Director-General  of  Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win met a  four-member  delegation led by Mr Xavier Bouan of  United  Nations  Drug  Control  Programme  at the  office of the  Director-General of Myanmar Police  Force this  afternoon.  They discussed  providing  technological and material assistance, conducting  of courses and development of human  resources in  introducing global monitoring system in measuring  illegal  poppy  cultivation  in  Myanmar.  Also  present  were  officials  of Ministry of Defence,  Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation,  Ministry  of Forestry  and  Ministry of Progress  of Border  Areas and National Races and Development Affairs.

(9) 37 members resign from Einme Township NLD
 

YANGON, 13 Sept - Thirty-seven  members  resigned  from  National  League  for  Democracy  of  Einme  Township,   Ayeyawady Division.  Thirty-seven  members  of  Einme Township NLD, Ayeyawady  Division,  of their  own  volition,  resigned  by  sending  letters of resignation to Einme Township  Multiparty  Democracy General Election Commission  and the party  concerned  on 18 July 1999 as they  no longer wished to participate in party politics  of  NLD.
