(1)    Commander-in-Chief of  Defence  Services  Senior General Than Shwe receives Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces HQ

YANGON, 5  Sept-Chairman  of the  State  Peace and Development Council  Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services  Senior  General Than Shwe received Chief of  Defence  Forces  of  Malaysian Armed  Forces Headquarters  General  Tan  Sri  Dato'  Seri  Mohd Zahidi bin Hj  Zainuddin  and party who  called at Dagon  Yeiktha of the  Ministry of Defence at 3.30 pm today.

 Also present  together  with Senior  General Than  Shwe were  Vice-Chairman  of the State  Peace and  Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of  Defence Services  Commander-in-Chief (Army)  General Maung Aye, Secretary-l of the State Peace  and  Development  Council  Chief of the Office of  Strategic Studies  and Director of  Defence  Services  Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,  Secretary-2  of the State  Peace and  Development  Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and  Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo,  Secretary-3  of  the  State  Peace  and  Development Council  Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the  State  Peace  and Development Council  Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral  Nyunt  Thein  and  Commander-in-Chief  (Air}Lt-Gen  Kyaw  Than, Deputy  Prime  Minister  and  Minister  for  Military Affairs and Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen  Tin Hla, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung,  Military Attache of Myanmar to Malaysia Col Ko Ko  Kyaw and  Director-General of Protocol Department

YANGON, 5  Sept-Vice-Chairman  of the State  Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of  Defence  Services Commander-in-Chief  (Army) General Maung Aye received Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd  Zahidi bin Hj  Zainuddin  and party  who called  at Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha at 2 pm today.

 The guests were accompanied by Defence Adviser of Malaysia Lt-Col Harun bin Hitan.

(3) General  Maung Aye and wife host  dinner in honour of Chief of  Defence  Forces  of  Malaysian  Armed Forces HQ

YANGON, 5  Sept-Vice-Chairman  of the State  Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of  Defence  Services Commander-in-Chief  (Army) General  Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San hosted dinner in honour  of Chief of  Defence  Forces  of Malaysian  Armed Forces  Headquarters  General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd  Zahidi Bin Hj  Zainuddin  and party at Zeyathiri Beikmam on Konemyinttha at 7 pm today.  Before and during the dinner, the artistes of Fine Arts  Department  of  Ministry  of Culture entertained  the guests with  Myanmar  traditional dances and  songs.

(4)    Secretary-1  previews display of ancient jewellery and artistic antiques exhibition

YANGON, 5 Sept-Secretary-l  of the State Peace and Development  Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  inspected the  preview  of  ancient  jewellery,and  artistic antiques exhibition at the National Museum on Pyay Road this morning.

 The exhibition was sponsored by the Department of  Archaeology  with the aim of preventing  antiques  from being taken out of the country by  inspiring  Myanmar people to make a habit of cherishing  and  preserving  antiques  and  uplifting  dynamism of  patriotic  spirit through  cherishing and  preserving Myanmar cultural antiques.

 The Secretary-1 inspected the display of over 300 antiques from five different  periods-Pyu,  Bagan, Innwa, Konbaung and Yadanabon.

(5)     Secretary-l inspects Monsoon Photo Competition and Myanmar Scenery Photo Exhibition

YANGON, 5 Sept-Secretary-l  of the State Peace and Development  Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  inspected the Monsoon  Photographic  Competition and Myanmar Scenery  1999  Photo  Exhibition  at the  Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road this morning.

 The  Secretary-l,  accompanied  by the ministers,  the Mayor of Yangon,  the  deputy  ministers  and  officials  of the  State  Peace  and  Development  Council Office, arrived at the hall at 9 am.  The  Secretary-l observed  prize-winning photos of His  Choice, His Impromptu Photo Competition, skill of  camera and  wonderful  computer  booth, films and  photographic materials shops  and  photos  of  veteran lensmen.

 The Secretary-l met  students visiting  the exhibition  and left the hall.

(6)     Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian  Armed Forces HQ and party visit Defence Services Museum

YANGON,  5 Sept-Chief of  Defence Forces  of Malaysian  Armed Forces  Headquarters  General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd  Zahidi bin Hj  Zainuddin  and party, currently  here  at  the invitation  of Vice-Chairman  of the State Peace and  Development Council  Deputy Commander-in  Chief  of  Defence Services  Commander-in-Chief  (Army) General Maung Aye, together with Military  Attache of Myanmar to Malaysia  Col Ko Ko Kyaw and  Defence  Adviser  of Malaysia  Lt-Col  Harun Bin  Hitan  and  officials visited the Defence  Services  Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this evening.

They were welcomed by Director of Defence Services Museum and  Historical  Research  Institute Col Ye Htut and officials.

 Then, officials conducted them round the museum.

 General  Tan Sri Dato'  Seri Mohd  Zahidi  bin Hj Zainuddin  signed in the  visitor's  book and left there.

(7)     Families  of  Tatmadaw (Army, Navy  and  Air), well-wishers  donate provisions to Sarthintaiks in Insein

YANGON, 5  Sept-Families  of Tatmadaw  (Army, Navy and Air) and  well-wishers  offered  provisions to
Ywama  Pariyatti  Sarthintaik  at the  Sarthintaik this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and  Development  Council Chief of Bureau of Special  Operations  Chief of Staff (Army)  Lt-Gen Tin  Oo.  Padana Nayaka of Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik  Agga Maha Pandita  Sayadaw  Bhaddanta Nandavarmsa administered the Eight Precepts.

The Secretary-2, the Commander and party presented offertories to the Sayadaws.

Afterwards,  service  personnel  and  well-wishers offered provisions to the Sayadaws.

Similarly,  families  of  Tatmadaw(Army,  Navy and Air) and  well-wishers  donated  rice and  cash to Dhammawadi  Nunnery of Insein  Township this noon.

(8)     Wife of Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters visits MMCWA (Central)

YANGON, 5 Sept-Puan Sri Datin Seri Rasiah Binti Md Nor, wife of Chief of Defences of Force  Malaysian Armed  Forces  Headquarters  General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zahidi bin Hj Zainuddin,  accompanied by Myanmar  Military  Attache to  Malaysia  Col Ko Ko Kyaw and  wife  Daw  Thuza  Myat  Mon and  Defence Adviser Lt-Col  Harun  bin  Hitan  of  Malaysian Embassy  and wife Mr Hasnah  Bte  Jaafar,  visited Women's Development  Centre  of  Social  Welfare Department on Thanlwin Road this afternoon.

 Vice-Chairperson of  Myanmar  National  Working  Committee for Women's  Affairs  Professor Daw May  May  Yi,  Secretary  of  the  Committee  Director-General  of Social Welfare  Department U  Sit Myaing and  officials  briefed  the guests on  the centre.

The guests  observed  the  workshop,  the  weaving workshop and salesroom.

 They went to Myanmar  Maternal and Child  Welfare  Association  (Central)  building at the corner of  Thanthuma Road and Parami Road in South  Okkalapa  Township.

 They  were  welcomed  by  Chairperson of  MMCWA  (Central) Professor Daw  Kyu Kyu Swe  and  Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe.

 Daw Kyu Kyu Swe reported on MMCWA and Dr Daw Khin  Win Shwe on functions of the association.

 The guest  presented  cash  donated by  Malaysian  Armed Forces  Family  Welfare Body  (BAKAT) to Dr  Daw Khin Win Shwe.

 Chairperson  Professor  Daw Kyu Kyu Swe presented  gifts to the  guests.  They  then  signed  in the  visitor's book.

 The  guests  viewed  documentary  photos  of  the  association  and  cookery,  tailoring  and  fruit  arrangement courses.

(9)     41 members resign from Thegon Township NLD

YANGON, 5  Sept-Forty-one  members  resigned  from  National League for Democracy of Thegon Township,  Bago Division.  Forty-one members  of  Thegon  Township NLD,  Bago Division,  of  their  own  volition, resigned by sending letters  of  resignation to Thegon Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the  party concerned on 27 July 1999 as they no longer  wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
