(2) Myanmar and Croatia establish diplomatic relations
YANGON, 4 Sept-The following is the Press Communiqu on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Union of Myanmar and Croatia issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
The Union of Myanmar and Croatia, guided by the principles enunciated in the
Charter of the United Nations and being desirous to establish relations of
friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of the principles of
equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of the others, respect for
independence and territorial integrity, have decided to establish diplomatic
relations between the two countries at
Ambassadorial level on 3 September 1999.

(3) 15th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief's Bowl Under-21 Soccer Championship begins
YANGON, 3 Sept-The ceremony to open the l5th Defence Services
Commander-in-Chief's Bowl Under-21Soccer Championship for 1999 was held at
Youth Sports Training Centre at 3:00 pm today, attended by Chief of Bureau of
Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Adjutant-General
Lt-Gen Win Myint.

(4) Myanmar, Laos hold talks on technical cooperation in agriculture
YANGON, 3 Sept - A ministerial meeting on in the agricultural cooperation in the agriculture sector between the Union of Myanmar and the Lao People's Democratic Republic was held at Golden Triangle Hotel in Tachilek, Shan State, on 30 August afternoon.
It was attended by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Ambassador of Myanmar to Lao PDR U Sein Win Aung, Chairman of Tachilek District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Ko Ko Htay and departmental officials of Myanmar and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr Siene Saphanthong of Laos, Ambassador of Lao PDR to Myanmar Mr Ly Bounkham, Military Attache Col Phanh Sonephachanch and departmental officials.
Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin made a speech on the occasion, saying it is important to cooperate in agriculture between the two nations bymaking endeavours for ensuring economic development based on agriculture.
He said Myanmar will provide technical assistance for construction of dams for Bokeo Province of Laos bordering Myanmar.
Laotian counterpart Minister Dr Siene Saphanthong expressed thanks for
technical assistance of Myanmar and for conducting
agriculture and irrigation courses for trainees of Laos.

(5) Commander inspects bridge construction in Coastal Region
YANGON, 3 Sept-Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, accompanied by Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tin Latt and staff officers, inspected the building of Thamoke-Lutlut Wooden Bridge on 2 September morning.
Officials of the project reported to the commander on construction of the
bridge. The commander gave instructions on the laying of gravel for the approach
road on the bank of Lutlut and attended to the needs.

(8) Minister inspects venue of 17th Meeting of WHO Health Ministers
YANGON, 3 Sept-Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials, this morning arrived at the place where the 17th Meeting of the Health Ministers of WHO member countries in South-East Asian Region will be held.
Officials conducted the minister and party round the venue. The minister
inspected preparations for holding the meeting and for serving the guests who
will attend the meeting and fulfilled the requirements.

YANGON, 3 Sept-Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met President CEO Mr Jean Pichon and party of Setraco Indochine Co of France who called at his office this morning.
Similarly, the minister met Mr Shozo Kimura of Look Japan Publishing Pte Ltd
of Japan at 1 pm today. Also present at the calls were Deputy Minister U Aung

(10) First four-monthly coordination meeting held by Border Trade Department
YANGON, 3 Sept- The first four-monthly coordination meeting of Border Trade Department for the 1999-2000 fiscal year was held at the meeting hall of the department on Bo Sun Pet Street this afternoon attended by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, advisers, Director-General of Border Trade Department U Min Hia Aung, border trade camp managers and service personnel.
The minister urged the officials to assess the strengths and weaknesses of previous work performance at the meeting and to lay down the plan for the enhancement of efficiency.
He spoke of the need to report weekly progress to the higher
authorities. He called on the officials to assign duties
exactly to their subordinates. Then, camp managers reported to the meeting on
their activities.

(11) Commander inspects extension of road in PyinOoLwin
YANGON, 3 Sept-Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, accompanied by Commander of PyinOoLwin Station Brig-Gen Tin Oo, Chief Engineer (Road) (Upper Myanmar) U Maung Maung, Superintending Engineer U Saw Sein Tun Aung and officials, inspected extension of road by Tatmadawmen at Pwe Taung Coffee Farm No 39/5 mile-post in PyinOoLwin Township yesterday afternoon.
The commander and party proceeded to No 40/4 milepost at the entrance of PyinOoLwin and inspected extension of the road. The commander gave suggestions to officials.
At the PyinOoLwin Entrance Gate, Commander of PyinOoLwin Station
Brig-Gen Tin Oo explained matters relating to the extension of road and greening
of it environs to Maj-Gen Ye Myint. The commander attended to their needs.

YANGON, 3 Sept-A ceremony to donate cash towards the funds of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University of the Ministry of Religious Affairs was held at No 3 lecture hall of the university on Dhammapala Hill in Mayangon Township this evening.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara administered the Five Precepts. Today's donations include K 100.000 by Khin Ti and family in memory of Aye Kyi, K 10,000 by Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein and Daw Tin Tin Nwe and family, K 10,000 by U Khin Maung Than, K 100,000 each by Daw Kyin Mya and farnily, Lt-Col Kan Myint-Daw Le Le Win and family and U Kyaw-Daw Htwe Tin and family, K 85,000 by Saya U Myint Hlaing and family, K 15,000 by U Han Shwe-Daw Kyi Au and family, K 10,000 by U Ye Hla-Daw Theingi Lwin and family and K 3,000 by U Tint Swe and family.

Donations to the university by the public have amounted to K 2,344,950 from
11 August 1998 till

YANGON, 3 Sept- Deputy Minister for Industry-l Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, accompanied by officials, inspected Chemicals Factory on Bayintnaung Road in Hline Township, Packing Paper Factory on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township and No 1 Gas Plant on Thanlyetsoon Road in Botahtaung Township yesterday.
The deputy minister gave instructions on boosting production, quality of
products and staff welfare.

(15) Yangon Intl Cosmetics & Consumer Products Exp on 10-13 Sept
YANGON, 3 Sept- The Yangon International Cosmetics & Consumer Products
Expo '99, sponsored by Via Exhibitions Group and organized by Directorate of
Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute of the Ministry of
Defence, will be held in the Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road from 10
to 13 September 1999, with the aims of distributing the quality
products among the people, for exchanging techniques and experience between the
local and foreign businessmen, for taking advanced international packaging
system and seeking the strong market, for boosting new products in accord
with international standard and for getting good foundation of market economic
system in building new modern developed nation.

(16) Heroin seized in Yangon, Bago, Mandalay
YANGON, 3 Sept - A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched the house of Tun Zaw, son of U Kyaw Nyunt, No 30/B on Thitsa Street in Yankin Township, Yangon Division, on 12 July.
They seized nine soap cases of heroin weighing 159.194 grams packed in a polyethylene bag and hidden in the bedroom and Town Ace Kaka/8577 which was used in heroin trafficking.
According to further information, while waiting in front of Arleinngahsint Pagoda in Insein on 15 July, the team nabbed U Htwe Aung, son of U Kyaw Han of 1010, 5th Socialist Street, Shin Saw Pu Ward, Bago, Bago Division, with eight soap cases of heroin weighing 138.0792 grams. After investigating him, the team searched U Htwe Aung's house in Bago, Bago Division, and seized five soap cases of heroin weighing 86.2995 grams.
On 23 July, while waiting on 82nd Street between 27th and 28th Streets in Chanmya Thazi Township, Mandalay, the team nabbed Tin Maung Aye, son of U Chit Tin of Hsipaw Township, with 31 soap cases of heroin weighing 586.891 grams.
Action is taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law.

(17) 25 members resign from Singaing Township NLD
YANGON, 3 Sept -Twenty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Singaing Township, Mandalay Division.
Twenty-five members of Singaing Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Singaing Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned
on 15 August 1999 as they no longer wished to
participate in party politics of NLD.
