(1)     Secretary-1  observes  artistic  works and attends  entertainment programme of students at University of Culture

YANGON, 1 Sept-Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee  Secretary-l ofthe State Peace and Development  Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accompaniedby  officials  of the State  Peace  and  Development  Council  Office,arrived at the National  Theatre on Myoma  Kyaung Road here at 8.30 amtoday.

Then,  Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party  observed 26 paintingsand 5 sculptures by students who will obtain the degrees of Universityof Culture for 1998-99 academic year.

Heads of department and the students conducted Secretary-1 Lt-Gen KhinNyunt and party round the display of paintings and the sculptures.

The  Secretary-l  and  party  attended  the  entertainment programmepresented  by  the  students  of  Music Department and  TheatricalDepartment who will obtain the degrees of University of Culture.

(2)    Secretary-2  visits  Monsoon  Photographic Competition  and  Myanmar Scenery Photo Exhibition

YANGON, 1 Sept-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development  CouncilLt-Gen Tin Oo  inspect,d  the  Monsoon  Photographic  Competition  and
Myanmar Scenery (1999) Photo Exhibition at Tatmadaw Convention Hall onU Wisara Road this morning.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo viewed the photos of the exhibition.

The Secretary-2 and party  inspected the sale of books from IPRD, Newsand Periodicals  Enterprise,  Myawady Literature House, Sarpay Beikmanand Zaw Literature House.

Secretary-2  Lt-Gen  Tin Oo also  inspected  sale of  film  and  photoequipment  from Nikko General  Trading Co Ltd and Super One Co Ltd andDau Whan Engineering Co Ltd and cameras of Accel  International Co Ltdand computer technology of Forever Group at the exhibition.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo cordial1y met the people and students at the exhibition.

The Secretary-2  posed for documentary  photos with the students  visiting the exhibition.

(3)     Minister supervises construction of rail roads, bridges, stations

YANGON,  1  Sept-Minister  for Rail  Transportation  U Pan  Aung  paidobeisance to  Hsutaungpyi  Pagoda in Ma-U Village of Yezagyo  Townshipand  Tharakkhan  Buddha image of Sithushin  Pagoda in Pakhangyi  on 29August.

The minister  inspected  Seikphyu-Pakokku  section of  Kyangin-Pakokkurailroad and the axis of the road passing  through  Tantkyi  Hill.  AtKyat  Village, the minister met local  people and  discussed  railroadconstruction, transport of passengers and goods.

Then, the minister planted the Bo tree at the north-east corner of theShwemyintin Pagoda in Kyattoe Village of Pakokku.

On 31 August,  the  minister  met  Commander  of No 66 Light  InfantryDivision  Brig-Gen  Aung  Min,  Chairman  of Pyay  District  Peace andDevelopment  Council  Lt-Col  Khin  Win and  members  of the  Board ofTrustees and discussed all-round development of Shwebontha Muni Pagodain Padaung Township.

(4)    Minister  inspects construction  of  traditional  medicine  hospital (50-bed)

YANGON, 1  Sept-Minister  for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein,  accompanied bydirectors-general  of  departments,  inspected  construction  site  oftraditional  medicine  hospital  (5-bed) of the  Traditional  MedicineDepartment on Ngahtatgyi Pagoda Road this morning.

The minister and party were welcomed  there by Managing  Director U Ye
Tun of Myanma  Industrial  Construction  Services  of the  Ministry ofIndustry-2 and officials.  The minister gave necessary instructions.

At the briefing hall, Director-General  Professor Dr Kyaw Myint Tun ofIMD, Deputy Director  (Architecture) U Chit Ko Ko of Myanma IndustrialConstruction  Services  and  Project  Manager U Win Maung  repotted onprogress of work and tasks to be carried out.

The minister attended to their needs.

(5)    Course on Management of Crops concludes

YANGON,  1  Sept-Course  No 1/99 on  Management  of  Crops  of  MyanmaAgricultural  Produce Trading under the Ministry of Commerce concludedat the Head Office of Myanma Agricultural  Produce Trading on PansodanStreet this morning with an address by Minister for  Commerce  Maj-GenKyaw Than.

Also present on the occasion were advisers,  Director-General of TradeDepartment U Nyunt Aye.  Director-General of Border Trade Department UMin Hla Aung, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce TradingU Saw Aung and officials.

In his address, the minister spoke of the efforts for earning  foreigncurrency by exporting paddy, rice, rice products, beans and pulses oilcrops and  kitchen  crops,  sending  trainees  abroad  and  conductingcourses.

Then, the minister presented certificates to trainees.

(6)    Minister inspects Institute of Marine Technology, Botahtaung   Container Yard Project

 YANGON, 1 Sept-Minister  for Transport  Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe,together with Deputy Minister  Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Managing  Directorof Myanma  Shipyards U Percy Maung Maung and officials,  inspected theInstitute of Marine Technology on Bayintnaung Road in Kamayut Townshipthis morning.  Then, Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister UPe Than and party went to the office of Botahtaung No 2 Container YardProject of Myanma Port  Authority  in  Botahtaung  Township.  ManagingDirector  of  Myanma  Port  Authority  U Thein  Htay  reported  on theproject, progress of work and the budget.

After that, the minister, the deputy minister and party  inspected theproject site and gave instructions on the works.

(7)   Minister inspects departmental work in Magway and Mandalay Divisions

Y ANGON, 1 Sept-Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and Development  Association Minister for National Planning and Economic  Development U Soe Tha, together with officials, met with the staff members of Pakokku District Planning Department on.28 August afternoon,  and  explained  matters  related to four  policies  of the ministry and tasks of the department.

On 29 August  morning, the minister  attended the ceremony to open the new  office of  Yesagyo  Township  USDA in  Pakokku  District,  Magway Division.

The minister formally opened the new office building.

Afterwards,  the  minister inspected  the  computer  room  of  Basic Education  High  School  No 1 in  Yesagyo,  and gave  instructions  on conducting computer courses.

(8)    Minister inspects Myanansankyaw Shwenandaw in Mandalay

YANGON,  1  Sept-Minister  for  Culture  U Win  Sein,  accompanied  by Director-General,  of  Department  of  Archaeology  U  Nyunt  Han  and Director-General  of Fine Arts  Department  U Zaw Than and  officials, inspected Myanansankyaw Shwenandaw yesterday morning.

The minister met service personnel at Myanansankyaw Shwenandaw.

Minister  for  Culture  U Win  Sein  gave  necessary  instructions  to officials.  The  minister  and party met  service  personnel  and gave instructions to officials at the theatre.

Minister U Win Sein and party visited Lawka Marazein  Pagoda, two lion statutes  at  Eindawya  Pagoda  and  Thakawun  Kyaungdawgyi  and  gave suggestions.

(9)    Over 4 kilos of heroin seized in Monkoe

YANGON, 1 Sept-A combined group comprising members of local battalion, intelligence  unit and departments  concerned,  acting on information, searched the house of No 20, Ward 4 of Monkoe,  rented by Ma Lauk Khu, daughter of U Law Kwe of Yinhsaingkyay  Village, Monpaw  Village-tract of Muse Township on 12 August.

The members seized 33soap boxes cases of soup and 12 packets of heroin weighing  4.815  kilograms and nabbed Ma Lauk Khu together with Ma Soe Soe Lwin of Ward 4 of Kutkai who was staying at the house. Action
is taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic

(10)    622 members resign from Toungoo Township NLD

YANGON, 1 Sept-A  ceremony to present  letters of  resignation  of 622 members of  Toungoo  Township  National  League  for  Democracy,  Bago Division,  was held at the  Kaytu  Yadana  Hall in town at 10 am on 29 August 1999.

Six  hundred  and  twenty-two  members of Toungoo  Township  NLD, Bago Division,  of their own  volition,  resigned  by  sending  letters  of resignation to the party concerned on 29 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

Member of Kanyoe Village-tract in Toungoo Township NLD U Myo Myint, on behalf of the party members,  explained about the resignation from the party and handed  over the  letters  of  resignation  to  Chairman  of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election  Sub-Commission U Ngwe San.
