(1) General Maung Aye inspects sugar mills in Pyay District
YANGON, 23 Aug-Chairman of Central Industrial Development Committee Vice-Chairman of State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye met with Shan State and district-level departmental officials in Thanlwin Hall of Eastern Command on 21 August morning, and gave instructions on agricultural matters.
General Maung Aye, accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council, ministers and officials, arrived at Taunggyi by helicopter.
They were welcomed there by Tactical Operations Commander Col Khin Maung Soe and senior military officers and departmental officials.
The General and party met with members of Shan State, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, secretaries, executive committee members and members of Shan State, District and Township Union Solidarity and Development Associations, personnel of Working Committee for WomenĘs Affairs and Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Shan State, District and Township Agricultural Supervisory Committees, project officers and departmental officials in Thanlwin Hall of Eastern Command.
In conclusion, the General called on authorities at different levels to carry out inspection tours right down. to the grassroots level and to work day and night for the agricultural and industrial development.
Afterwards, the General, the Secretary-2, the Secretary3 and party had a cordial meeting with those present.
The General and party inspected Taunggyi in a motorcade.
The General and party arrived at Pyay at 2.30 pm through Heho Airport by helicopter. In the briefing hall, the General and party heard airport by Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin on the purpose of building the sugar mill and arrangements.
Afterwards, the General and party inspected the compound of Nawadei Sugar Mill.
Next, the General and party went to No 11 In-nga-khwa Sugar Mill Project being constructed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation near In-nga-khwa Village, in Paukkhaung Township, Pyay District, Bago Division by helicopter.
In the briefing hall, the General and party heard reports by Managing Director U Myo Myint, Commander Maj-Gen Tin Aye and Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin on facts about the project and production of sugar on a commercial scale.
Then, the General and party inspected the mill and gave instructions to officials.
The General and party left there by helicopter and spent the night at
Khittaya Guest House of No 66 LID.

(2) General Maung Aye inspects South Nawin and North Nawin Reservoirs in Paukkhaung Township
YANGON, 23 Aug-Chairman of Agricultural Development Central Committee Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye inspected cultivation work after reclamation of fallow and virgin lands by national entrepreneurs South Nawin and North Nawin Reservoirs, in Pauk-khaung Township,Pyay District, yesterday afternoon.
General Maung Aye together with Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council, the ministers and officials, left by helicopter for the reclamation site of Kyitshayhsaung Co Ltd in Nyaunggon Village-tract in Paukkhmaung Township.
General Maung Aye spoke of the need to take be agricultural work permitted With correct cetena and said there are 22 million acres of fallow and virgin lands still left in the whole country.
The General and party proceeded to South Nawin Reservoir near Ywathit Village in Paukkhaung Township. The General gave instructions on work.
The General and party went to North Nawin Reservoir near Sisongon Village
in Pyay Township where they were welcomed by departmental officials,
members of Township and War Peace and Development Councils, members of the
Union Solidarity and Development Association, members of Maternal and
Child Welfare Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade, teacher,
students and farmers. The General spoke on conducting research on amount
of yearly rainfall.

(3) Secretary-l inspect Monsoon Photographic Competition and Myanmar Scenery Photo Exhibition
YANGON, 23 Aug-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office this morning visited the Tatmadaw Convention Hall, where Monsoon Photographic Competition and Myanmar Scenery 1999 Photo Exhibition is;to be held, on U Wisara Road here.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected the photographs on
display, camera and photographic material showrooms and the booth on
computer skills.

(4) Secretary-3 attends opening ceremony of Multimedia Classroom at BEHS No 4 in Taunggyi
YANGON, 23 Aug-Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Win Myint, accompanying Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and
Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services
Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, attended opening ceremony of
Multimedia Classroom at Basic Education High School No 4 in Taunggyi on 21
August. Then, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, ministers and guests inspected
teaching room, arts rooms and audio visual room and skills of the
students.

(5) MIC Chairman receives Unocal Vice-President
YANGON, 23 Aug-Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Vice-President of Thailand-based Unocal Corporation Mr Randolph L Howard who called at his office this morning.
Also present at the call were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council ChairmanĘs Office Secretary of MIC Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Deputy Minister for Electric Power U Tin Tun and officials.
They discussed exploration of oil and energy sector development.

(6) National Convention Convening Commission meets
YANGON, 24 Aug-National Convention Convening Commission held a meeting at the meeting hall of NCCC Office at 2 pm today.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of NCCC Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Vice-Chairman Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and commission members.
Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin made a speech at the meeting.
Secretary of National Convention Convening Commission, National Convention Convening Work Committee and National Convention Convening Management Committee reported on matters relating to National Convention.
Members of National Convention Convening Commission took part in the discussions.
Afterwards, the meeting ended with concluding remarks by Maj-Gen Saw Lwin.

(7) Minister inspects Central Floating Hotel
YANGON, 23 Aug-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe,accompanied by Deputy Minister U Pe Than and officials, inspected Central Floating Hotel at Wadan Jetty, Lanmadaw Township, this morning.
Officials reported to the minister and party on current condition of the hotel and programmes of works.
The minister attended to their requirements.
The minister and party proceeded to Meteorology & Hydrology Department on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road. Mayangon, where they met officials who reported to the minister on works being implemented.
The minister and party inspected facilities used at MHD and left
necessary instructions.

(8) Minister inspects preparations being made for 10th ASEAN NTO Meeting
YANGON, 23 Aug-Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu and officials, this afternoon, inspected preparations being made at Traders Hotel for 1 0th ASEAN National Tourism Organizations Meeting to be held at the hotel from 24 to 26 August.
Senior officials of ASEAN member countries, those of the ministries
related to the tourism and entrepreneurs from private hotels and tourism
in Myanmar will attend the meeting.

(9) Provisions donated to Sarthintaiks in Yangon East District
YANGON, 23 Aug-Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers donated provisions to Maha Gandhayon, Yadana Dipan, Mandalay and Dhamma Dheikhtan Sarthintaiks at Maha Muni Dhammayon of South Okkahpa Pagoda in South Okkalapa Township this morning.
Staff members of departments and well-wisher donated rice, oil,salt, medicines and gram to Padana Nayaka Sayadaws. They then presented cash towards the funds of Sarthintaiks.
Brig-Gen Myint Swe supplicated on the purpose of the donations.
Likewise, officials donated provisions to Sunlungu Vipassana, Maha Thilawun, Maha Saddhamma Theikpans Bogale and Withakha WomenĘs Education Nunneries at Sunlungu Vipassana Nunnery in Thingangyun Township this morning.

(10) Agricultural work discussed in Hmawby, Taikkyi
YANGON, 23 Aug-Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, accompanied Secretary of Yangon Division-Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint, Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Matu and departmental officials, met officials and farmers in Hmawby and Taikkyi Townships this morning.
The commander arrived at the site of Myochaung Bridge across Hlaing River.
T he commander then gave instructions.
Next, the commander met farmers of Targwa, Thayetchaung and Poakta Villages and gave instructions on cultivation of beans and pulses and oil crops and cultivation of matpe.
Farmers reported on requirements. The commander fulfilled the requirements.
The commander also met departmental officials in Hmawby and Taikkyi
Townships, USDA members, members, WomenĘs Affairs Committee, Red Cross and
Fire Brigades and Ward Peace and Development Council members.
Officials reported on requirements and the commander then fulfilled the
requirements.

(11) 36 members resign from Launglon Township NLD
YANGON, 23 Aug-Thirty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Launglon Township, Taninthayi Division.
Thirty-six members of Launglon Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Launglon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 18 July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
