YANGON, 22 Aug-The inauguration ceremony of Wegyi Dam, the 100th dam to have been completed by Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, was held at the pandal near the dam in Paungde Township, Pyay District, Bago Division, this morning, with an address by Chairman of Central Industrial Development Committee Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye.
Then, General Maung Aye attended to their needs. Later, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo made a speech. Then, General Maung Aye presented prizes to Director U Tin Maung Ohn, who accepted on behalf of the construction staff, Tactical Operations Commander Col Hla Aye, on behalf of the Tatmadaw men and Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Win, on behalf of the local People.
Chairman of CIDC Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye pressed the button to unveil the stone Plaque of Wegyi Dam.

(2) Secretary-1 inspects construction of Drug Abuse Control Museum

Council Office and officials, arrived at the construction site of Drug Abuse
Control Museum at the corner of Hanthawady Road and Kyundaw Street in Kamayut
Township at 10.30 am today.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to their needs.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected construction of the meeting hall,
administrative building and three-store museum.

(3) Secretary-l offers Magaiktaw, Salwedaw to Rajamuni Buddha Image
YANGON, 22 Aug - A ceremony to offer Magaiktaw and Salwedaw to Rajamuni Buddha Image on the platform (north) of the Shwedagon Pagoda took place at the pagoda this morning, attended by Patron for Perpetual All-round Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Thiri Manda Sankyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Rajindabhivamsa administered the Nine Precepts.
The Secretary-1 offered Magaiktaw to Thiri Manda Sankyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Rajindabhivamsa in dedication to the Buddha.
After sprinkling scented water on Magaiktaw, the Secretary-1 offered it to Rajamuni Buddha Image.
The Sayadaws consecrated the Rajamuni Buddha Image.
The Secretary-l lauded concerted efforts of people and scholars for all-round renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda and hoisting atop the pagoda.
Then, the Secretary-l inspected the Shwehtidaw, Seinphudaw and Hngetmyatnadaw to be hoisted atop the Shwedagon Shwehtidaw design Pagoda.
Afterwards, the Secretary-l inspected renovation works of the archway of the northern stairway.
Next, the Secretary-l inspected renovation works of religious buildings on
the the pagoda platform.

(4) K 24m for construction of Thabinnyu Pagoda
YANGON, 22 Aug-The eighth cash donation ceremony for the construction of Thabinnyu Pagoda was held at the construction site of the pagoda on Ward 5 in Mayangon Township this afternoon, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Well-wishers donated K 24.06 million for the construction of Thabinnyu Pagoda.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,Ministers U Aung Thaung, Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Maj-Gen Sein Htwa,Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe and Brig-Gen Lun Maung accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the well-wishers.
Then, Secretary-l Lt-Gen, Khin Nyunt attended to the; needs of construction works.
After the ceremony, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected
progress of construction work of the Pagoda.

(5) Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families, well-wishers donate offertories to Sarthintaiks
YANGON, 22 Aug-Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers presented offertories to Maha Bodi Sarthintaik, Kyaukkon Tawya Meidini Kyaungtaik, Mogaung Kyaungtaik and Kyaukkon Kyaunggyitaik in Yankin Township at Kyaukkon Tawya Meidini Kyaungtaik this morning.
Present on the occasion were Minister at the Prime MinisterĘs Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, senior militaryofficers Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint, departmental heads, Chairman of Yangon East District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Aye Lwin, well-wishers and guests.
Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Nandabala administered the Five Precepts.
The minister, deputy ministers and officials donated provisions to the Sayadaws.
Likewise, the minister, deputy ministers and officials offered provisions to
Maha Thuwunna, Kyaikkasan Pahtama Shwekyin, Maha Withoakdarama, Kyaikkasan
Shwekyin Taikthit, Maha Theikpan, Aungmye Yadana and Shwenaban Sarthintaiks
which took place at Aungmye Yadana Sarthintaik in Thingangyun Township this
morning.

(5) UPMC Commander and party leave for home
YANGON, 22 Aug-Visiting Commander of Yunnan Province Military Command (UPMC) Maj-Gen Wang Jitang and party, left here for home by air at 1 pm today.
The visiting commander and party were seen off at Yangon International
Airport by Brig-Gen Saw Hla M in of Phugyi Station, Deputy Commander of Yangon
Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint and senior Tatmadaw officers of the Ministry of
Defence, Military Attache of Chinese Embassy Sr Col Ma Shoudong and officials.

(7) 42 members resign from Nahtogyi Township NLD
YANGON, 22 Aug-Forty-two members resigned from National League for Democracy of Nahtogyi Township, Mandalay Division.
Forty-two members of Nahtogyi Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Nahtogyi Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 22
July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
