(1) General Maung Aye inspects agricultural undertakings  in Taunggyi District

YANGON, 21 Aug-Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council  Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)  General Maung Aye inspected agricultural undertakings of national  entrepreneurs in Ywangan, Heho and Nyaungshwe townships in Taunggyi District,  Shan State (South), yesterday.

On arrival at the agricultural project of Shwethanlwin Agriculture Co Ltd  near the village, General Maung Aye and party were-welcomed by departmental  personnel, local people, members of the traditional dance troupes, Chairman  of the company U Kyaw Win, members of the board of directors and staff.

At the briefing hal1, General Maung Aye and party heard a report on progress  in land reclamation work, future plans, monsoon crop cultivation in Ywangan  region and arrangements to put land under cold season crops presented by U  Kyaw Win Managing Director U Zaw Win Tun and officials. General Maung Aye  gave counsel and inspected samples of con,beans, niger, paddy and soya bean.

Of the 1324.79 acres the company has been permitted to grow crops in the  region, over 891 acres have been put under corn, 100 acres under paddy, 51  acres under soya bean, 89 acres under peyin and six acres under pesinngon.  The company has projected to reclaim 5000 acres in the region.

At the farm project of Super One Co Ltd at Heho village-tract in Kalaw  Township, Taunggyi District, Managing Director of the company Daw San San Yi  reported to the General and party on progress in crop cultivation, future  plans and requirements. Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo explained relevant facts.

After giving suggestions, the General inspected the project.

The company will grow crops on 5,229 acres in Kalaw, Taunggyi and Nyaungshwe  in Taunggyi District. It has put 1194 acres under corn, pesinngon, paddy,  niger, mustard, mango and rubber. The company is taming more land j to extend  cultivation of cold , season corps and niger.

They should strive to cultivate crops that are suitable to climatic  conditions of the respective regions with the use of quality strains and  pesticides.  Advanced techniques and equipment rather than conventional .  methods should be utilized in agriculture works in moving towards mechanized  farming system. Modern agricultural techniques used in neighboring countries should be  studied to be applied at their projects; and research should be conducted to  measure the quality of the produce. Effective natural fertilizers should be  used to increase the yield; and EM Bokashi method will be used in producing  natural fertilizers.

The national enterpreneurs, agriculture experts and local people should  strive in harmony and unison for proportionate progress of agriculture and  industrial production; and the nation will render assistance to the most  possible extent to the national entrepreneurs.

The General and party left Nyaungshwe and arrived back in Bahtoo in the  afternoon.

(2) General Maung Aye attends dinner to mark graduation   of under-Officers Course No 27 of Tatmadaw (Army)

YANGON Aug-Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General  Maung Aye attended the dinner to mark the graduation of Under-Officers Course  No 27 of the Tatmadaw (Army) Officers Training School in the Military  Appointment Hall of the school in Bahtoo Tatmyo, Southern Shan State  yesterday evening.

General Maung Aye and party arrived at the dinner at 7 pm yesterday and  cordially met the cadets.

Then, General Maung Aye and party had the dinner with the cadets and viewed  the entertainment programme by artistes of the Directorate of Public  Relations and Psychological Warfare.

(3) Secretary-1 attends ceremony to hand over apartments   of Mahamyaing staff quarters project to owners

YANGON, 21 Aug-A ceremony to hand over apartments of Mahamyaing staff  quarters project constructed by Tawwin Family Co Ltd to owners was held at  the Planning Office in Ward 41 in Dagon Myothit (North) this morning,  attended by Secretary- I of the State Peace and Development Council Lt Gen  Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-l formally unveiled the signboard of Mahamyaing staff quarters.  Chairman U Ko Ko Htwe reported on the project and cash donation for  education.Next, U Ko Ko Htwe presented K 10 million for education to the  Secretary-1.

The donations are K 6.7 million for furniture in Basic Education. Schools in  Yangon Division, K 600,000 for three computers, K 1.5 million for No 6 Basic  Education High School in Ahlon Township, K 500,000 for Multimedia Classroom  of No 4 BEHS in Sangyoung Township and K 650,000 for 12 water closets.

Deputy Minister for Education U Myo Nyune thanked the donor.Managing Director  U Hla Din of Tawwin Family Co Ltd presented related documents of 1,390  apartments to Deputy Director-General of General Administration Department U  Maung Win on behalf of the owners.

The Secretary-1 and the guests inspected the new buildings.Mahamyaing staff  quarters comprise 47 buildings with 1,390 apartments.

(4) Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony  of Shwe Yadana modern cinema

YANGON, 21 Aug - A ceremony to open Shwe Yadana modern cinema was held at the  cinema in Dagon .Myothit (North) this morning, attended by Secretary-l of the  State Peace and Development Counci1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

First, Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein and U Than Htut  and Daw Wa Wa Win Shwe formally opened the cinema.

Then, Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt pressed the button to unveil the bronze plaque of the cinema.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt performed the rituals of golden and silver  showers to mark the opening of the cinema.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen KhinNyunt and party viewed the film.

Then, U Than Htut-Daw Wa Wa Win Shwe and family presented a computer worth K  180,000 to Secretary- I Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, for Dagon Myothit (North) Basic  Education High School  No 1.

The shows will begin at Shwe Yadana new cinema on 27 August.

YANGON 21 Aug-The tenth cash donation for Dagon Myothit MyoU Pagoda (Pyigyi  Chantha Maha Pagoda) was held at the Dhammayon of the pagoda this morning,  attended by Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen  Khin Nyunt.

Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Hsan  Hsint reported on works done and being done, construction of the wall,  archways, prayer hall and Mingala Lake, other arrangements and cash and  expenditures.The Secretary-l gave instructions.

(6) Tatmadaw families of (Army, Navy and Air), well-wishers donate     provisions to 11 Sarthintaiks

YANGON, 21 Aug-A ceremony to donate provisions to Sarthintaiks in Mingala  Taungnyunt Township- Dhammikayon Pali Tekkatho, Hsutaungpyay, Shin  Ardeiksawuntha, Aungmye Beikman, Hinthada Thondat and Dhamma Zeyar  Sarthintaiks- by Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers was  held at Dhammikayon Pali Tekkatho this morning.

Padana Nayaka of Dhammikayon Pali Tekkatho Ovadacariya of Shwedagon Pagoda  Board of Trustees member of State Central Working Committee of the Sangha  Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Indaka administered the Five Precepts.

The minister, deputy ministers and officials donated provisions to the
Sayadaws.

Then, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Chief of Staff (Navy)  Commdore Kyi Min and Chief of Staff (Air) Brig-Gen Myint Swe offered  provisions donated by Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families to the Sayadaws.

(7) Yangon Command Commander visits Ngasutaung area

YANGON, 21 Aug- Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of  Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Mai-Gen Khin Maung Than,  accompanied by Secretary Lt-Col Kyaw Tint and Chairman of Yangon North  District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Matu, held discussions on  regional development and agricultural matters with officials in Hlegu  Township today.

The commander first arrived at Ngasutaung Village, Hlegu Township, where he  gave instructions to the township manager of Myanma Perennial Crops  Enterprise and other township officials.

In meeting with them, he said he was there to make arrangements for ensuring  development of Ngasutaung area, especially for smooth transportation, and  creating job opportunities.

(8) Commander inspects extension of Mandalay PyinOoLwin Highway

YANGON, 21 Aug- Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council  Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, accompanied by Col Soe Thein  of PyinOoLwin Station and officials, inspected extension work of  Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Highway on 19 August.

The commander and officials inspected digging of drains, paving of the road  and building of bridges on the highway.

He gave instructions on sector-wise work to officials.

(9)  48 members resign from Thayetchaung Township NLD

YANGON, 21 Aug-Forty-eight members resigned from the National League for  Democracy of Thayetchaung Township, Taninthayi Division.

Forty-eight members of Thayetchaung Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of  their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Thayetchaung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and  the party concerned on 10 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate  in party politics of NLD.
