(1) Secretary-1 meets member of Japanese House of Counsellors

YANGON, 19 Aug - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received member of Japanese House of Counsellors Honourable Mr Hideo Watanabe and party who called at the Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4 pm today.

Also present together with Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai.

(2) Secretary-1 meets Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh

YANGON, 19 Aug - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh Mr Kalpa Ranjan Chakma and party who called at the Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4.40 pm today. Also present together with Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and Director-General of Department for Development of Border Areas and National Races Col Wunna Maung Lwin.

The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of the People s Republic of Bangladesh Mr Jahangir Saadat.

(3) Destructive elements attempting to force Myanmar government into tight corner in the world by distributing false news Conspiracy of internal and external anti-government groups to cause unrest in Myanmar further exposed

YANGON, 19 Aug - A Press Conference further exposing the conspiracy by anti-government organizations inside and outside the country to create unrest in September 1999 was held at the meeting hall of Myanma Radio and Television on Pyay Road this morning.

General Staff Officer (Grade-l) Lt-Col Tin Oo of the Office of Strategic Studies acted as master of ceremonies.  Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung.  Afterwards, Brig-Gen Kyaw Win made a speech.

Col Than Tun then explained the conspiracy by the anti-government organizations inside and outside the country to create unrest in September.

Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and Col Than Tun replied to questions raised by journalists.

The journalists and guests then viewed the seized documents.

(4) Minister meets member of House of Counsellors of Japan

YANGON, 19 Aug - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met a delegation led by member of House of Counsellors of Japan Honourable Mr Hideo Watanabe, accompanied by Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, who called at Medical Research Department on Ziwaka Street at 8 am today.  A ceremony to donate medical equipment for eye, ear, nose and throat complaints to Ministry of Health by Volunteer Network for Asia and Pacific of Japan was held ax the meeting hall of Medical Research Department at 8.30 am today attended by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, member of House of Counsellors Honourable Mr Hideo Wamrabe, Director of Volunteer Network for Asia and Pacific of Japan Mr Jsao Enomoto and officials and officials of Ministry of Health.

Member of House of Counsellors Honourable Mr Hideo Watanabe explained about the donation and presented medical equipment for EENT worth US$ 49,749 to Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Superintendent of General Hospital of Kengtung Township of Shan State (East) Dr Win Hlaing. The minister presented a certificate of honour the donor and spoke words of thanks.

(5) Minister and wife present toys to child patients

YANGON, 19 Aug - Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and wife presented toys donated by Shwekyaung Sayadaw of Singapore Abbot Ven Shi Fazhao to child patients of No 2 Military Hospital (500-bed) this morning.

The minister cordially met the parents.

Commandant Col Min Naing presented a certificate of honour to the minister.

(6) Minister meets Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts

YANGON, 19 Aug - Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa met a delegation led by Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh Mr Kalpa Ranjan Chakma who called at his office at 5.30 pm today. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister U Aung Khin and officials.

(7) Minister inspects Meza Bridge Project

YANGON, 19 Aug - Minter for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied officials of Public Works, inspected Meza Bridge Project on Mandalay-Shwebo-Myitkyina Road on 16 August morning.  The minister gave instructions on timely completion of the bridge and systematic storage of construction materials.

Afterwards, the minster toured the construction site of the bridge.

The minister also attended the ceremony of donating construction materials for the building of No.1 Basic Education High School in Kyaukse on 17 August afternoon.

Member of the Panel of Patrons of School Board of Trustees Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun extended greeting.

The minister also donated K 100,000 for No 2 Basic Education High School.

Headmaster of No.1 BEHS U Tin Co spoke words of thanks.

(8) Course on enhancing efficiency of practitioners begins

YANGON, 19 Aug - The course on enhancing efficiency of practitioners of the Ministry of Health (District Health Department Heads Level) was opened in the hall of the health employees training school in Dagon Township yesterday addressed by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein.

Only 30 practitioners could attend the course at one time, and there are many who need to attend such courses.

In conclusion, the minister urged the trainees to use human resources, financial resources and material resources proportionately and to promote the health standard of the people.

Altogether 25 trainees are attending the four-week course.

(9) 46 members resign from Pyapon Township NLD

YANGON, 19 Aug - Forty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Pyapon Township, Ayeyawady Division.

Forty-six members of Pyapon Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pyapon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 17 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
