(1)  Secretary-2 meets fish and prawn breeding entrepreneurs

YANGON, 16 Aug - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo met with entrepreneurs of fish and prawn breeding companies at quality control division of the Fisheries Department in Thakayta this-afternoon.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected the functions of the quality control division and fresh water prawn breeding of United Fishery Enterprises Co Ltd.

An acre pond yielded 7,000 prawns and made a profit of K 1.8 million from the capital of K 2.9 million.

(2)  Tatmadaw members of Army, Navy and Air, well-wishers present cash offertories to Sayadaws

YANGON, 16 Aug - Tatmadaw members of Army, Navy and Air and well-wishers donated provisions to Dekkinayon Pariyatti Sarthintaik of Dagon Township and cash for building of a three-storey Kyaung this morning at the Sarthintaik.

Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the ceremony. Tatmadaw members of Army, Navy and Air and well-wishers also donated provisions to Sayadaws.

State Ovadacariya Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Nahavamsa delivered a sermon.

The congregation shared merits gained.

(3)  Cash assistance provided for in-service disabled Tatmadaw members of Coastal Region Command

YANGON, 16 Aug - Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint met with officers and other ranks and their families of regiments and units under Coastal Region Command in the meeting hall of the command yesterday afternoon, and also attended a ceremony of providing cash assistance to in-service disabled Tatmadaw members of regiments and units under Coastal Region Command.

In conclusion, the Secretary-3 thanked the well-wishers. Then, the Secretary-3 accepted K 2 million donated by Asia Pacific Edible Oil Ltd and K 100,000 by the merchants association.  Then, the Secretary-3 had a cordial meeting with officers and other and their families.

The Secretary-3 and party stopped for the night at Myeik.

This morning, the Secretary-3 and party arrived back here by air.

(4)  Minister inspects construction of bridges, roads

YANGON, 16 Aug - Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, accompanied by Managing Director U Kyaw HSAA of Myanma Railways and officials, inspected construction of Hsinphyushin Bridge across Chindwin River yesterday morning and gave instructions on works.

At Pakokku Station, the minister met division officers and engineers of MR, Road Transport Administration Department, Road Transport and Transport Planning Department.  In the evening, the minister inspected rail tracks along Bagan-Myingyan section by EMC.  He also inspected Myinkyachaung Bridge and Hsindewa Bridge and gave instructions on repair works.

(5)  Refresher course for indigenous medicine practitioners

YANGON, 16 Aug - The refresher course No 1/99 for indigenous medicine practitioners opened at Indigenous Medicine Department on U Wisara Road this morning, with an address by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein.  The minister urged health personnel to implement the guidance.

The two-month course is being attended by 40 trainees.

(6)  USDA CEC member tours township offices in Bago Division

YANGON, 16 Aug-Member of Central Executive Committee of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint called on Patron of Bago Division USDA Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Tin Aye on 14 August morning.  He then inspected computer diploma course for pre-graduates and post-graduates being jointly conducted by Bago Division USDA and Institute of Computer Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The USDA CEC member gave instructions on functions of the association and presented cash towards the funds of the regional associations.

(7)   Children's Soccer Tournament of pre-primary and day-care schools begins
 
YANGON, 16 Aug-Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone attended opening of children's soccer tournament of pre-primary and day-care schools in Yangon Division of Social Welfare Department at the Pre-primary School No 5 in Tamway Township this afternoon.

After the opening ceremony, Pre-primary School No I vs No 5 and Pre-primary School No 4 vs No 6 played in the matches.

Altogether 12 teams of the schools are taking part in the children's soccer tournament which continues up to 20 August.

(8)   Minister meets Managing Director of Dynasty Point Co Ltd

YANGON, 16 Aug-Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung met Managing Director of Dynasty Point Co Ltd Mr Dunn Ming Jan and party who called at Myanma Radio and Television at 2 pm today.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Director-General U Khin Maung Htay of Myanma Radio and Television, Director-General U Chit Naing of Information and Public Relations Department, Managing Director U Than Maung of Printing and Publishing Enterprise, Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Managing Director Col Bo Kyi of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Adviser to the Minister for Information U Kyaw Min, Chief Engineer of MRTV U Tin Wan and Head of Office U Khin Maung Myint.

YANGON, 16 Aug-Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint met Ambassador of United Kingdom Dr John Jenkins who called at his office at noon today.

(10)   USDA Executives' Management Course trainees tour downtown Yangon
 
YANGON, 16 Aug-Trainees of Executives' Management Course No 19 of Union Solidarity and Development Association together with Instructor-in-Charge Major Hla Tun Thein of Central Public Relations Unit and officials visited Myanma Gems Museum on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.

In the evening, the trainees of USDA Executives' Management Course No 19 together with trainees of USDA International Relations Course No 4 attended the dinner at City Central Market in their honour hosted by Mayor U Ko lay.

(11)  Myanmar and Georgia establish diplomatic relations

YANGON, 17 Aug-The following is the Press Communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Union of Myanmar arid Georgia issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

The Union of Myanmar and Georgia, guided by the principles enunciated in the Charter of the United Nations and being desirous to establish relations of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of the principles of equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of the others, respect for independence and territorial integrity, have decided to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries at Ambassadorial level on 17 August 1999.

(12)   54 members resign from Letpadan Township NLD

YANGON, 16 Aug-Fifty-four members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Letpadan Township, Bago Division.

Fifty-four members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Letpadan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 7 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
