(1) Yangon West District opens firewood substitute briquette factory
YANGON, 14 Aug - An opening ceremony of the firewood substitute briquette factory of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council was held at the factory in Hline Township this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Yangon Division Forest Department Director Lt-Col Letyar Aung presented the
briquettes for the Ward Maternal and Child Welfare Associations.

(2) Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families, well-wishers present provisions to Sarthintaiks in Hline Township
YANGON, 14 Aug - Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers donated provisions to six Sarthintaiks in Hline Township at Panditarana Sarthintaik in Ward 13 in the township this morning.
The six Sarthintaiks are Zeyawady Pariyatti Sarthintaik, Tattwin Pariyatti Sarthintaik, Yadana Theinga Pariyatti Sarthintaik, Wayalet Panyatti Sarthintaik, Panditarama Sarthintaik and Thiri Mingala Pariyatti Sarthintaik. Present on the occasion were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and . Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
The Secretary-2 and party presented provisions to members of the Sangha led by Sayadaws of six Sarthintaiks.
The State Peace and Development Council and Taninthayi Express presented K
60,000, KN Co, BTB Co and Thamada Thingantaik K 100,000 each and U Aung Mon-Daw
Hla Maw K 30,000 totalling K 450,000 for Soonpadethabin.

(3) K 4.18 million donated for Thathana Thitala Five-Storey Beikmandawgyi in Nyaunggan Aye Thathana Yeiktha
YANGON, 14 Aug - The 19th cash donation ceremony for Thathana Thitala Five-Storey Beikmandawgyi under construction at Nyaunggan Aye Thathana Yeiktha on East Gyogone Ward in Insein Township this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Then, well-wishers presented K4.18 million to Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials.
Then, Joint-Secretary Sayadaw of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Thayet Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kesara delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

(4) Secretary-2 views Indian classical dances
YANGON, 14 Aug - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe enjoyed the Indian classical dance "Bharatanatyam" by the dance troupe led by Miss Anita Shamuganathan at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street this evening. The Indian troupe and artistes of the University of Culture, Ministry of Culture, also presented a joint dance "A Joyous Return from Taxila".
After the dance programme, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and Ambassador Mr Shyarn Samn presented flower baskets to the dance troupe.
The dance troupe entertains the public on 15 August evening.

(5) New Sony Service Centre opened
YANGON, 14 Aug - A ceremony to open new Sony Service Centre and new office of TMW Enterprise Limited was held at the office at No 90 on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning, attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung.
Then, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Mr Toyooki Tanaka and U Wai Lwin formally opened the new Sony Service Centre and new office of the TMW Enterprise Limited.
After the opening ceremony, the minister, deputy ministers and guests looked round the digital Sony TV sets displayed at the showroom.

(6) Minister inspects activities of school health week at schools
YANGON, 14 Aug - Minister for Education U Than Aung, accompanied by the directors-general and chairmen of the departments and organizations under the Ministry of Education, inspected the activities of School Health Week at Mingala Taungnyunt Basic Education High School No 1, Tamway Township BEHS No 1 and Kyimyindine Township BEHS No 1 this morning.
Minister U Than Aung gave instructions on education promotion programme.
The Basic Education Schools of No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City)
are implementing the sanitation work at the schools and the environs, school
health and treatment programme, protection of infectious disease, school health
education programme and nutrition development work during the school health
week.

(7) Heroin, stimulant tablets seized
YANGON, 14 Aug - A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, while waiting at Lwehsutaungpyay Pagoda near Muse-Nankham Road, Shan State (North), on 2 August, stopped and searched a motor-cycle without number plate ridden by Ar Chant (a) Ar Phu, son of U Lauk Sein of Shaukhaw Village of Kutkai Township and Yon Pauk (a) Lau Yon Pauk, son of U Lau Yon Kaung of Mankan Village of Shaukhaw Village-tract, Kutkai Township.
The authorities seized heroin weighing 0.151 kilogrammes kept in eight soapboxes and 200 stimulant tablets in a polyethylene bag.
Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(8) 32 members resign from Nattalin Township NLD
YANGON, 14 Aug - Thirty-two members resigned from National League for Democracy of Nattalin Township, Bago Division.
Thirty-two members of Nattalin Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Nattalin Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 5
August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
