(1) Preparations under way for Myanmar to take part in International Trade Fair in South Africa

YANGON, 10 Aug - A meeting was held this afternoon at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) of the Ministry of Defence to make preparations for Myanmar to take part in the International Trade Fair in South Africa.

Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an address.

Participants also took part in the discussions.

The Secretary- l gave suggestions.

(2) Secretary-1 attends co-ordination meeting to observe Myanmar Day at Kunming Expo ‘99

YANGON, 10 Aug - A coordination meeting to observe Myanmar Day at Kunming Expo'99 was held at the meeting hall of Commander-in-Chief (Army) of the Ministry of Defence his afternoon, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.  The Secretary-l spoke on detailed discussions on holding of Myanmar Day.

The Secretary-l took part in the discussions.

(3) Secretary-2 attends coord meeting on production, purchase of palm oil

YANGON, 10 Aug - A coordination meeting on production and purchase of palm oil was held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation this afternoon with Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo in attendance.

National entrepreneurs also presented production of palm oil private soap factory owners, requirement of palm oil and local production and market.

The Secretary 2 attended to the needs.

(4) Press Conference held on Myanmar's narcotics eradication

YANGON, 10 Aug - Press Conference on eradication of narcotic drugs in Myanmar was held this evening at No 2 Tatmadaw Guest House of the Ministry of Defence.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, specially invited guests, military attaches in Yangon led by Dean of the Military Attache Corps Military Attache of the Russian Embassy Col Vladimir I Kontchakov.

Deputy Chief of Office of the Strategic Studies Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win delivered an address.

(5) Minister for Education inspects schools

YANGON, 10 Aug - Minister for Education U Than Aung, accompanied by Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung and U Myo Nyunt and heads of department under the ministry inspected Dagon Township BEHS No 2 and Botahtaung Township BEHS No 3 where school health programmes were carried out.

(6) The minister gave instructions on the education promotion programme to officials

Under the Education tasks for one year are being carried out in accordance with the education calendar at schools monthly.  Schools under the Basic Education Department No 3 (Yangon City) are carrying out school health programmes after designating a school health week from 9 to 14 August. Activities included sanitation, nutritional 16 education.

(7) DAD opens basic computer course

YANGON, 10 Aug - Basic Computer Course 1899 of the Development Affairs Department was opened at the Engineering Division of DAD in Botahtaung Township this morning.

Minister Col Thein Nyunt made a speech on the occasion, saying the present course was conducted for township DAD staff who will operate computers to be installed at Township DAD offices.

The minister then cordially met 100 trainees of 50 township development committees.

(8) Minister inspects construction of Bo Myat Tun Bridge

YANGON, 10 Aug - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun accompanied by officials of Public Works, arrived at construction site of Bo Myat Tun Bridge across Ayeyawady River in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division this afternoon.

The minister then inspected finishing works of paving the motorway between piers 9 and 13.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented rewards to technicians who are undertaking the duties day and night for the construction of the bridge. Then, the minister and party left there at 2.30 pm.

(9) 35 members resign from Launglon Township NLD

YANGON, 10 Aug - Thirty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Launglon Township, Taninthayi Division.

Thirty-five members of Launglon Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Launglon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 18 July 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
