Armed Forces Headquarters General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zahidi bin Hj
Zainuddin and wife and delegation, who arrived here on a goodwill visit at the
invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy
Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung
Aye, left here by special flight at 5.15 pm today at the conclusion of their
goodwill visit. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by General
Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies
Director of Defence Services Intelligence Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Chief of
Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Secretary-2 of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe,
Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen
Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, members of the State Peace and Development
Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief
(Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development
Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister for Military Affairs and Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin
Hla, Ambassador of Malaysia Dato' Mohamad bin Noh and Defence Adviser of

Daw Mya Mya San met with General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zahidi bin Hj Zainuddin
and wife Puan Sri Datin Seri Rasiah Binti Md Nor and delegation at No 1 Tatmadaw

Aye together with Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters
General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zahidi bin Hj Zainuddin and party played
goodwill golf at Adonai Third Golf Club on Konmyinttha of Yangon Command
Headquarters this morning. Then, Genera1 Maung Aye and party had breakfast with
the Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters and party.
Afterwards, Genera1 Maung Aye and party posed for documentary photo together
with the Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters and
party and enjoyed the goodwill golf. After the play, General Maung Aye presented
souvenirs to the Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters
and party who participated in the goodwill match. Then, the Chief of Defence
Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters and party, General Maung Aye and
party left the golf club at 9.30 am. ________________________ (3) Secretary-1
attends coordination meeting on general renovation works at the Shwedagon
YANGON, Sept-Patron of Leading Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of
the Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended a coordination meeting on general renovation of the
Shwedagon at the pagoda this morning and inspected renovation works there. The
meeting took place in Old Museum Tazaung on the platform of the pagoda. After
hearing the reports, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt gave a speech, saying
progress has been made in the renovation works But there remained a lot of work
for renovation to be done because of the large number of religious buildings and
the great size of the Shwedagon. In conclusion, the Secretary-l instructed
officials to strive for success of remaining works. Afterwards, the Secretary-l
and officials paid homage to Padamyar Myet-shin Buddha Image on the upper
terrace of the pagoda and jade Buddha images on the platform. He left there
after inspecting the renovation works. _____________________ (4) Pabedan
Township BEHS No 1 gets multimedia teaching centre YANGON, 7 Sept-Multimedia
teaching centre of No 1 Basic Education High School of Pabedan Township, Yangon
Division, was opened this morning at the school with an address by Chairman of
Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally opened the
signboard of the centre. Afterwards. the Secretary-l and party inspected the
demonstrative media section, the education broadcasting Service centre, the
computer and study room, the art section, the arts room and the vocational
science room. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary-l said. Human resources
which are important in building the modern and developed nation will emerge only
when computer science is taught in the basic education schools; thus the
government is implementing the education promotion programmes and all should
work in harmony and unison for the emergence of a modern and developed nation.

opened YANGON, 7 Sept - Ancient jewellery and artistic antiques exhibition
sponsored by the Department of Archaeology of the Ministry of Culture opened at
the National Museum on Pyay Road this morning. Minister U Win Sein made a
speech. Then, he spoke of antiques and ancient jewellery on display at the
exhibition. Then, the minister, the deputy minister, ambassadors and guests
toured the exhibition. The exhibition will be open from 10 am to 3.30 pm till 12
September, and admission is free. ______________________________________________
(6) Donations for USDA HQ YANGON, 7 Sept- Hailing the Annual General Meeting of
Union Solidarity and Development Association, a ceremony to donate cash towards
the trust fund of USDA Headquarters by Myanmar National Committee for Women's
Affairs, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Myanmar Women
Entrepreneurs' Association and Myanmar Women' s Sports Federation was held at
the USDA Headquarters this morning. Present on the occasion were Member of the
Secretariat of USDA U Ko Lay, Central Executive Committee members U Than Shwe, U
Thein Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko. Member of MNCWA Dr Daw Khin
Win Shwe, Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Chairperson of MWEA
Daw Sein Sein and Chairperson of MWSF Professor Daw May May Yi handed over K

of Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters General Tan
Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Zahidi bin Hj Zainuddin, and party, accompanied by Daw Thuza
Myat Mon, wife of Myanmar Military Attache to Malaysia Col Ko Ko Kyaw and Mrs
Hasnah Bte Jaafar, Defence Adviser Lt-Col Harun bin Hitan of Malaysia, went to
Lady Luck showroom on Saya San Road in Bahan Township this morning. They looked
round Myanmar handicrafts and items of jewellery. The guests were on a visit
here at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)
General Maung Aye. ____________________________ (8) 32 members resign from
Myittha Township NLD YANGON, 7 Sept-Thirty-two members resigned from the
National League for Democracy of Myittha Township, Mandalay Division. Thirty-two
members of Myittha Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition,
resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myittha Township Multiparty
Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 11 May
1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
